I live in Manila. Century egg is not uncommon here though it's not really readily available in generic supermarkets. Anyways, it doesnt taste bad. Yes it smells pretty nasty. It is a delicacy and an acquired taste. It delicious when mixed with noodle soup. I think the racers would have been more grossed out had it been balut (aborted egg) or chicken intestine or chicken head.
