Right. Like he's so far away from his other adult children, I'd really like to know why he moved to Mexico to begin with.

I read somewhere it was to avoid taxes in California or something. If that wasn't it exactly, it was some kind of similar financial issue.

Thank you. "Ignoring the race element" is how we got here in the first place. This docu-series is straight up telling people about Britain's role in slavery via the transatlantic trade, Brexit, the lack of diversity in British newsrooms, and the heartbreaking murder of Stephen Lawrence. Yes. Race is 100% playing a role in Meghan's treatment, and while I cannot speak for Meghan, I will say that being told "it's not about race" from someone who is not Black is worthless to me. Much like Meghan, I know what racism is, and I don't need to be told by anyone else what it is or isn't, especially when I know that I've experienced it.

Agree 100%. The media has been trying to tell us for years now that it's not about racism with Meghan. Of course it is. If she says so, it is. I'm not in the business of telling other POC how they're supposed to feel or what is or isn't racism. The entire reason dogwhistles exist is so people can claim they aren't being racist. I think Meghan mentioned in this episode the "Straight outta Compton" headline. A dogwhistle if I ever heard one.

One of the best moments of Meghan and Harry's Oprah interview for me was a statement Meghan made that was unfortunately cut for time. She referenced Kate being called "Waity Katie." Meghan said something like, "Being rude [in a headline] is not the same as being racist." Meaning, Kate's treatment in the media was bad, yes, but it was not as bad as the racist headlines.

You beat me. I only lasted 15 minutes. I found them insufferable, especially MM’s smug, calculating remarks that seemed rehearsed.

Why wouldn't she rehearse and think about what she might say? I remember reading Diana thoroughly rehearsing her Panorama answers and asking for frequent breaks to collect her thoughts. This is their one chance to get their story out there. A little rehearsal and thoughtfulness, especially when looking back, is what I'd expect. Off-the-cuff remarks would be even more pilloried than their actual, thoughtful answers are.

I thought the situation was that Thomas made a deal with the photographer to have some "tasteful" photographs taken of himself preparing for the Royal wedding, which would then be published and make him look like a good, caring father.  Instead the photos made him look like a clueless American bumpkin, and he was widely ridiculed for voluntarily putting himself in that situation.  That supposedly caused him "stress" and gave him a heart attack.  Maybe that's the version he wanted to peddle because it makes him seem more innocent.

This, and making a buck off your kid's notoriety, especially when they've begged you to be quiet, is gross. I remember in the beginning, both Doria and Thomas kept their traps shut, but eventually, he couldn't help himself. It's a bit much for him to be whining about the media intrusion when you see Doria in the exact same position, and with the added layer of being a WOC, being able to keep her mouth shut.

I remember last year or so, Thomas threatening to give an interview to the media every single month unless Meghan spoke to him. Disgusting. I'm kind of peeved that his martyred ass was given so much airtime in this.

While I appreciate your larger point, to me, this is the problem. You don’t get to mock yourself at the expense of someone else. She was the freaking Queen of England, to take that moment to mock your own cluelessness doesn’t fly with me. She touts herself as such an intelligent woman, she knew in that moment this was her boyfriend’s grandmother, and whether you’re American or not it would be pretty obvious that the Queen does take these things seriously. What baffled me most about the story was, when Harry says “you should curtsy” she didn't take two more seconds to quickly ask “what does that look like?”, it’s a two second tutorial. I’m an American and I don’t appreciate her lumping us all in with that excuse, Medieval Times? C’mon girl.

She knew who Harry and his family was, you don’t get to feign “ignorance” at this point, it’s not like she was in some grocery store picking up a few things and the Queen pops up out of nowhere and she was caught off guard. She had been dating a Prince (cough cough) and her total self absorption to not do the tiniest bit of research is appalling to me. No wonder his family didn’t love her right away, her actions indicated she was either an idiot or frankly didn’t care, neither of which is a good look.

Why is the onus on her to know everything, and not her boyfriend to explain it to her? This is his family. For all we know, they act totally differently in private. How was she to know they were as formal in private as in public? As for not doing her research, if he's constantly telling her the media gets it all wrong or exaggerates things, why would you want to believe what's out there in the rags than what your boyfriend, an actual member of the family, tells you?

Curtsying takes a bit longer than 2 seconds to learn, because the foot placement, the length of the dip, etc., is something that fuddy duddies like those in the royal family notice. I remember the first year Meghan did the Christmas service walk, the dip of her curtsy was labeled wrong. I noticed her curtsy was quite different the following year.

This whole thing really brought home to me that the BRF and Harry and Meghan need to never reunite. The differences are too deep and fundamental.

It would have been refreshing if H&M could have admitted that they would have done things differently with Ashleigh if they had to do it over again. Instead it's just written off as being out of their hands with blame squarely being put on the palace.

If you ask me, their regret was very much implied. I follow these two like it's my job, and I have never, ever heard this particular story about the niece. I figured she had been there but was not photographed, as she is a private person. This particular story makes Harry and Meghan look pretty bad, IMO, so airing it so publicly seems like a form of penance.

I am very much enjoying the British media meltdown. Meghan lives rent-free in their heads. Their huffing and puffing only creates a Steisand effect.

I disagree that they haven’t delved into tougher topics. Harry admitting that he was clueless as to the type of negative attention Meghan would get and mostly due to racism was not exactly one of his finer moments.

Yeah, I agree. I’ve loved Harry since I was a kid,  but I really think he failed Meghan in a lot of aspects in the beginning. He’s made up for it, but  not coaching her through the basics like curtsying? To say nothing of the race issues she experienced. Nah.

  8. I regret that that complete waste of space Samantha was given so much airtime. Now we’ll never hear the end of her in press bemoaning what a victim she is. Kick rocks, asshole.

I was surprised that Ashleigh didn’t go to the wedding at all. I figured she was in the background somewhere since we never saw photos. I think that was a horrendous mistake on Meghan’s part, but it’s somewhat assuaged by her actually admitting it and accepting some responsibility.

I could claim that no one would stop me in her position from inviting my beloved niece to my wedding, but I just can’t imagine the intense pressure that would make a person feel they had to essentially abandon a family member.

  9. Did anyone else think Sebastian was going to turn out to be Ciaran, Maura's brother? It would make perfect sense - him being in on the simulation, having the red hair, and being the right hand to Maura's father.

I love Daniel and Maura, and whomever cast the little boy, Elliot, did a great job. Great little actor, and he looks like he could be their kid.

Daniel really works for me as a character. He does desperate longing really well.

What setting are you using? I'm watching the default "original" - so I only get subtitles when they aren't speaking English, but Netflix doesn't tell me what language the subtitles are for. I figured out Ling Yi and her mother weren't Japanese from context, but I didn't realize they were speaking Cantonese (vs. another non Japanese Asian language) until I read it here.

I watch with the English (original) with subtitles setting. That’s where it’ll tell you what the actual language being spoken is, I think.

They are actually Chinese and speaking in Cantonese to each other.  I have no idea why she is dressed like a geisha and needing to pass herself off as Japanese.

Yeah. I highly recommend everyone watch with subtitles. They tell you exactly what language is being spoken, so even if you are nor familiar with Portuguese, or Danish, etc., you can kind of follow along with the characters and get early clues that tell you more about them before it's actually revealed in-universe. I knew from episode one  Ling Yi speaking Cantonese, which was a major tipoff as to who she was.

  12. I'm a softy. None of them will be winning American Idol anytime soon, but I was very touched at the family singing "Unwritten." It's such a PERFECT song for a girl about to set out into the real world. If you had no idea of the family dynamics, the whole thing looked like a close-knit family. It was something you'd see in a cutesy coming-of-age movie.

The song was popular when I was 18 and setting out, so it was nice seeing it make a comeback.

Kody can still go fuck himself, though.

  13. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I felt really grossed out by all those people stuffed into Mykelti's room while she gave birth. Over 24 hours, probably unwashed? Nah. They did all seem very supportive, though.

I wonder if Robyn stayed on Zoom the entire time. Did she get up and munch on some chips while she got hungry? I do give her props, because I'd have been insanely bored until the end. I find I like her just fine when she's interacting with the kids.

I don't remember Jason Aldean being a judge on AI, do you?  Of course, I haven't watched since the current panel's first season, so there's that.

I wonder if it's also a small reference to the fact that his wife was a former AI contestant. I remember reading all the salacious headlines when they were running around behind his first wife's back.

  15. Also I hated Brittany trying to wrest some power back by misleading LC into thinking Logan's relative was Luke Bryan. She was a little too smug for someone who was eliminated weeks ago. I was glad LC didn't fall for it.

  16. Logan was a great strategic puppetmaster, but overall LC was the better player, IMO. She dominated the challenges. Hell, PEPPER was better at the later challenges than Logan was.

LC was also a master at misdirection, because people believed her relative was male right up until the finale! That was such a good idea. This interview revealed her thought process behind that:

    Quote

Palmer: My original strategy was to do this British accent and just really throw everyone off. But then I thought about it, and I was like, I know myself and one day I'm just going to wake up early in the morning and just be talking in my regular voice. So I was like, "OK, that's awful." And then I just decided to change the gender (of my relative). I did a lot of research and I was like, OK, there's a large pool of older Black male actors. So let's say that your celebrity is your father, because then the possibilities are almost limitless.

Great final two, and I think the right person won. It appears LC also changed up her appearance a bit. On Instagram, it seems those coke bottle glasses and blond hair are gone. She looks much better with darker hair and glasses.

I saw that Keke appeared to be on set for the finale. It's too bad they didn't show her on TV!

  17. The level of delusion in Vinesh is unreal! How could he possibly think the date with Meena went well? If that's his idea of a "connection," no wonder he's single. She could not have given less of a fuck about him. Whereas with Mosum there was an actual connection and vibe, but of course he dropped her. Douche.

I got a little too much pleasure seeing how quickly Meena dropped him.

  18. I can't with Nadia. I said this before, but she reminds me of my cousin. Gorgeous, bubbly, great job, total catnip to men - but for some reason, comes off as a bit clingy and desperate, which is sure to run off flighty guys like what's his name. I think the issue is that she wants the guys to like her, but doesn't stop to think about whether she likes them or if they're a good partner for the long haul. You don't have to say yes to every rando who asks you out!

I see too much of myself in Aparna. I think she's a good egg at heart, but comes off as a jerk sometimes without meaning to, or says cutting remarks meant in jest but ends up insulting the other person. I've lost a friend or two because I can sometimes be like that. It's not a good look, but it's also hard to change, particularly if it's a defense mechanism, which it seems to be in her case.

He’s from Louisiana not Georgia. Since Logan lied about being from Georgia I am assumed his relative is a well known Georgian.

Which eliminates my guess of Garth Brooks, then, since Garth is famously from Oklahoma. What about Jason Aldean?

  20. I have a feeling Ethan is going to walk the plank tonight (that is not a spoiler since I have no idea), which is too bad. He seems cute and sweet. Has ANY Asian man gotten this far in the competition, yet we know absolutely nothing about him?

  22. I'm calling producer shenanigans on Louise staying, because anyone who so desperately wanted to stay on the show would have called her out already. Brittany did not. I can't fathom why. The wanting to show the house she was tough reason  was kind of weak.

I like that they have not yet revealed who Kai is related to. I don't have a clue.

I was laughing when someone speculated that Dom is one of MLK's kids. She doesn't look nearly old enough, for one. I also don't think we'd catch any of them on a reality show like this.
