What I found strange was Shannen's claim that the "narrative" for years had been that she quit. But that's not so. I distinctly remember at the time it happened, she was notified during the hiatus after Season 3 that she was being let go. There were rumors that she had asked Spelling to be released from her contract at the end of Season 3 and he denied her request, so maybe that's what she means. There were also rumors that Alyssa's manager was also looking for ways to break her contract with the show. The new info from this podcast is that Alyssa was threatening to sue.

Also that Holly wanted to leave when they fired Shannen but they threatened to sue her and garnish any future wages she made. Wow.

Time heals all wounds they say, and with age comes perspective. I've caught a few YouTube videos of ComicCon panels with various Charmed cast members, including Shannen and Rose. Alyssa wasn't in any of them. The rest of them seem to get along and appreciate the fandom. I was surprised to see Rose involved since it seemed like she absolutely hated doing the show, but she seems to have at least grown to appreciate the fans.

Yeah, she was definitely fired and I definitely remember the gleeful headlines that she was let go from another Spelling show.

So I finally listened to Shannen's interview with Holly. I was disappointed to hear almost no accountability from either of them, as much as I like Shannen. To hear them tell it, they were worker bees and the only ones who cared about the quality of the show. To hear them tell it, they had some bad days but nothing to cause such a huge dilemma that resulted in Shannen's firing. To me, it's a case of either not remembering, or not wanting to admit, even all these years later, that all three of them behaved heinously. As vague as Alyssa has been about her role in all of this, at least she publicly apologized, and said she played a role in the conflict. I heard none of this from either Shannen or Holly.

I don't believe that being late to 90210 or being too dedicated to her work on Charmed were Shannen's biggest flaws. Her firings speak to much more than that. And I like her a lot!

Wow!  I am so happy that Shannen was vindicated and that horrid Kern apologized. However the damage was done to her reputation.  Shannen always wanted the best for the show and I never understood why Kern, Spelling  and others were so upset to the point that they fired her.  We all know now that Alyssa was the troublemaker because Rose told the world on twitter.

I always sensed that Alyssa disliked the closeness between Holly and Shannen.  She probably felt left out of their bond off the show.  Holly and Shannen had been friends for 10 years before working on the show together.  So their friendship would always be strong.

It sucks that Shannen was not able to see Holly in the hospital. I am glad that they were able to patch things up during the era of season 2.  This is why Holly said that if the producers had stayed out of the issues between Shannen and Alyssa, they would have gotten over it eventually.

I think we'll never know the true side of things. I feel HMC has done a great job of playing both sides against the middle. She was publicly close to Alyssa in the early 2000s and 2010s, then somewhere along the way reconciled with Shannen and now parrots Shannen's side of things. I truly believe all three of them probably behaved heinously. As HMC once said, there were no angels.

The whole relationship between all four of them seems to ebb and flow. I distinctly remember them being good 10 years ago with publicly supportive tweets.  I can see why Shannen, with a terminal diagnosis, wants her side of the story finally told, but HMC's behavior has been petty and off-putting to me.

The story about Shannen being kept by Alyssa and her mom from seeing Holly in the hospital is bizarre. In the first place, what gave them that power and in the second place, if HMC and Shannen were as close as they always say, why was Alyssa the middleman in the first place?

I realize all of this was traumatic for all four them, but it's been 24 years. None of them seem to let anything go. Well, HMC doesn't. I really don't like her. I love Shannen's podcast, though.

I don't want to believe anything TMZ says about this, and it's not for them to report - but of course this is their bread and butter.  I don't want to hear the misery leading up to whatever happened.  I feel like I am a giant hypocrite because I have gleefully watched and commented on this show since the beginning, but somehow it feels extremely invasive for anyone other than his own family to lay out the private details of his final moments.  Like others have said, we didn't know him, but we've watched him grow up.  It's all very hard.

This is where I'm at with this. At some level, I feel that all of us who have watched for years and gleefully consumed all the tea about this family are culpable. I loved Garrison's dressing down of Kody last season in particular. So we got our entertainment at the expense of another family's pain, and I don't know how to reconcile that. I know that the family's adults ultimately made the decision to be on TV, but they would have been off the air years ago if none of us watched. So I don't feel I personally have the right to mourn when I didn't know Garrison and got my entertainment from watching his family's troubles.

I will also say how haunting it is that Kody said something like, "There will be other Christmases" in regards to the family being all split up. Not anymore, there won't be. I can't imagine the intense regret of missing so many of Garrison's few years.

  4. Tony has no home training whatsoever! Asking his MIL at the same table as her 12-year-old kid if she's "getting to know herself?" I would want to die before asking my own mother that, never mind my MIL. Disgusting. I wish Christine had shut him down more forcefully.

Hey, Mykelti, for someone who is such a proponent of getting the family back together, you sure don't seem to extend the same courtesy for Meri.

Not sure why Mykelti kept bleating on about getting the whole family on Zoom. At least half were missing, unless they did not want to be on camera.

This explains a little more about Janelle being married to Meri's brother and meeting Kody. Janelle's mom met Kody's dad and married him as his second wife, so not only was she Meri's sister-in- law but she was also Kody's stepsister.

Yeah, I’m  no fan of Meri, but I’d feel some type of way about my sister in law/husbands stepsister suddenly going after my husband. Especially because Janelle was such a pretty woman. I never see it mentioned much, but her wedding photo in that dark blue dress makes her by far the most beautiful Brown bride to me.

I would think so.  Some of these people are B-, C-, and D-list celebs.  They probably need the money.  I'm guessing they get paid more if they're on the show longer.  That's what Dancing with the Stars does.  According to parade.com,

Of course, Special Forces probably doesn't have the budget of Dancing with the Stars, but the contestants may be paid in a similar fashion--just on a smaller scale.

Mystery solved - I listened to Nick Viall's podcast and he said they get a hefty appearance fee at the beginning, so the length of their time there is based only on how long they want to stay. Well, THAT changes things for me. I applaud Tara for getting her money and getting out ASAP.

I also respect all the contestants for going on a show with no prize money.

Is this a fact? If I'm risking my body and pride, it will be for some kind of compensation. That's why I figured Tara Reid went on. Why in tarnation would anyone agree to do it for free?

Maybe there's no prize money, but surely some kind of appearance fee, right?

  8. I really enjoy seeing all these normally well-dressed, coiffed and filtered celebs looking like absolute crap. Stars, they're just like us!

BAG is such a trash human being. Kind of annoyed that he's getting the better edit over Angela, who has seemed to make some serious changes in her life. As one of my favorite movies says: I guess in this society being male and an asshole makes you worthy of our time.

  9. Also, I can't think of anything more romantic than spending Valentine's Day with my mother-in-law. Not.

Shut up, Mykelti. Can't stand her constant preening. Also, I guess I'm a prude, but talking about my mother's sex life with her is not my idea of a fun time.

We got almost no Robyn, which felt great, but then we got annoying Jenn. We just  can't have it all, can we?

  10. I get irrationally angry whenever Meri’s friend shows up. I am sure she’s a very nice lady and a supportive friend, but Christ, she grated onscreen.

Anyone else disgusted by Kody eating and those two curls falling over his face?

Janelle looked beautiful this episode. We can all agree that much of their connection was an intensely physical one, right? In so many words, that’s what I thought was implied.

  11. One of the things that surprised me most was Jill actually wanting to do even more mission work. It always seemed on the surface that she was more of a passive player in it, even though she said she had a heart for missions. Reading about the danger they faced and their friend who was murdered, it's no wonder she was terrified. I assumed she wanted to get out of dodge and that Derick was the one who wanted to stay.

I liked reading about her bonding with the women she met in her mission work, and when she said she missed them. I remember being touched by a scene in Counting On where she made banana bread for a small group of ladies and, even though she didn't understand much Spanish, still looked engaged and sympathetic.

I didn't realize Mykelti had a different dad than all the other kids,. All those years I thought she, too, was Kody's. ;-)

But heck, yeah, of course he is being nice to her now. She worships him and goes the extra mile to please him. After all those years as the "wild child", it must be amazing to be Maddie's successor as the favorite daughter.

I heard a saying that I think rings true here. Each child in a household has a different parent. They will experience their parents differently based on different factors, like age, birth order, gender, etc. And, of course, with such separate households as we've seen on this show, it's no wonder their experiences of Kody vary wildly.

I struggle to imagine this happening because Janelle seems very asexual to me.

See, I can imagine it no problem, because if I’ve learned anything, it’s that we never truly know what goes on behind closed doors, even in reality families. None of us know anyone else’s marriages.

I bet Janelle could just be uncomfortable with expressing sexuality on television. Having said that, you could be right too. We’ll never know! Even if I kind of want to.

Last time was when Savannah was conceived. IMO

Nah. I think they were intimate longer than that. You don't get to six kids without some kind of real attraction (well, you CAN, but I don't think that's the case here). I clearly remember a scene in season 1 or 2 where Kody and Janelle had spent the night together in a tent, and he's absolutely pawing at her the morning after, and kissing her neck, the whole deal. I've never seen him display so much chemistry toward a wife. I can buy that there was more action in their bedroom than in Kody and Christine's in recent years).

  15. David, honey, not  even your NICE jeans? The ones without a hole?

I love Beatriz's outfit and updo. It must have been stifling on that rooftop.

I like Christine's jumpsuit, but it's a bit too tight. Still, very nice.

Where is Savannah living now? Is she not with Janelle in Flag (if J still lives there) anymore?

ETA a tiny bit of side eye at Maddie if she traveled for her pink drink party weekend but not her sister’s wedding…

If she was paid for the pink drink party, including expenses, I can see why she'd go to that and not a wedding. Times are hard right now. Also I don't like Maddie so I'm glad I didn't have to see her in pics.

It could be that this was a quick wedding to make things legal, and perhaps a bigger party is coming later?

Someone should have told Christine that the MOB should not dress to upstage the bride(s).  There is nothing wrong with dressing lower key at your kid's wedding.  A nice dress cut a bit higher and with at least straps on both shoulders would age better in the photos.  Also a more subdued color would not go amiss.

Didn't she post about buying that jumpsuit at a bridal store? If so, stands to reason that Gwen was there getting her own dress and was okay with it. Maybe even picked it out!

  18. Love that David was there. It seems to be a low-key, no-fuss wedding, but jeans? 😳 I live in a place where it's very common for even the groom to wear jeans to a wedding, but I will never not hate it.

And I'm trying to figure out why fedora = steve Harvey. Does he really "always wear a fedora?" I don't know if she made that up or I just never noticed.

I also wonder if she was mixing up Steve Harvey with the late Bernie Mac, who was more known for his fedoras.

He did back in the 1990s, along with those ill-fitting suits. It's not a bad guess, but also the clue is kind of outdated, since he no longer dresses like that and hasn't for years. Also

    Spoiler

I happen to follow some of his kids on instagram, and none of them are on this show.

Shayne was safe after the game earlier in the day.  She had immunity.  Jane/Jada figured out Hugo's information, but chose to go  after Chris instead.  Bad idea.

Whoops, I forgot that. Should have gone for Hugo, then!

  22. Maybe I'm just too involved with celebrity gossip, but what a dumb guess on Jayne's part. For one thing, Elvis is famously an only child, with a twin who died at birth. Lisa Marie's only son died a few years ago by suicide, leaving only granddaughters. All of this came up recently when Lisa Marie died.

What possessed her not to go with Shayne? Her exit was one that Dolly could be proud of, though.

I like that they're letting the celebrity relative give a video message. It's a nice addition. Although Tom Hanks didn't bother, heh.

EDIT: Jayne was also the only one in the right age range to pick Chris' relative, who, according to the clue, was popular in the 70s. Shame!
