How many of you (if any) quit a job without having another one lined up?

I know it can be considered a massive no-no, but I've become miserable at my job.

I did when I escaped GA and moved to NV. It was not impulsive and I had significant savings plus the proceeds of selling my house. You don't get unemployment nor will you qualify for any sort of social programs (SNAP, ETC...) when you quit and you'll be on your own for health insurance. Financial assistance for the ACA exchange is based on prior year income so it is unlikely you'll qualify for anything when you quit despite not having any income.

  2. I found out my bonus and merit increase yesterday. The bonus was pro-rated (as expected) and is what I was expecting, but our merit increases are downright insulting at less than 3% for a 'successful year', the highest rating you can get. I haven't had a merit increase this low since I got a shitty review at a shitty company over a decade ago. I thought it was pro-rated but it wasn't. This is the standard rate.

Yea, it's something, but it barely covers the increased insurance rates.

    I hear what you're saying.

Where I work though a lot of people have come and gone throughout the years.  People at times I thought have been too attached to other co-workers.  Then if one person's job is axed or someone decides to move on from the company both or multiple people wind up leaving.  I mean I guess there is nothing really wrong with that in a way that's just isn't how I roll.

I'm not much of a natural sharer of personal information with my manager and sometimes the higher ups in the company.  But I realize too I can't just sort of say nothing.  So I talk about myself enough to you know be polite but not get attached kind of thing.

Everything you just shared is normal in every company. It's not limited to yours.

I'm looking for an android app that can give walking directions, by voice, offline.

Google maps. You can download the directions ahead of time to listen to offline.

I threw out the receipt so no. I didn’t think they would last 2-3 weeks. They are definitely garbage.

I'm going on a limb that you also paid cash and did not use your Target Cartwheel, otherwise Target can look up your purchase via the card you used to pay with, or via your Cartwheel account.

You're in luck though! Target will allow you to return an item without a receipt, as long as you have your ID. You'll receive store credit.

If you don't have the box (regardless of payment method), just show them the product on the website or app and they can find it.

You're good to go return these and buy something better.

Bought blutooth headphones. I leave them to charge overnight in the case. They are 1/4 bars charged. After 1-2 hours they are dead. Back to charging them. Should they not work more than 1-2 hours? And charging overnight should make them fully charged.

Like I said I hate blutooth headphones.

I paid $20 they were on sale.

regular price is $50. For $50 I expect better quality.

@oliviabenson can you return those headphones?  I've never used the bluetooth kind but it sounds like they are defective.

Agreed. @oliviabenson return them. That rating is atrocious, too, with many complaining about the battery life and charging. I did a quick Google, so you don't have to, and that entire brand has crap ratings. Get something better. A quick search of the Target site shows another brand at the half the price with over 4800 reviews and 4.5 stars.

We'll make it a girl's trip weekend. Currently deciding between Nashville, Seattle, and Chicago. We're just indecisive.

I like all those cities.  Have you been to any of them before?  If so, I'd pick someplace new.  It can be hot and humid in Nashville during the summer, but that's the only potential weather issue I can think of in deciding between the three.

I saw him in Nashville in 2019, when I was still in ATL. I was only in Nashville for 24 hours (and I had an ear infection) as I had gotten stuck in the ATL airport for 8 hours. I want to go back but I just can't convince my heart to fly to that part of the country, or have the required layover in ATL.

*In hindsight I should have just got my car from the parking lot and drove but at the time, the delays were just 15 minutes here, 30 minutes there. A plane was in the air, the plane had to turn around. It was absurd. I ended up flying out the next morning.

    Gross. Didn't think of that.

Oh then come here, by all means. It's glorious here in the summer.

Leaning towards Seattle. It's closer, less humid, 2 of us have never been and the third is excited to play tour guide.

I would either go with a city you always wanted to visit and make it a whole trip or whichever city you can take a direct flight to from your home airport.  I say this as someone who has one option for an easy direct flight.  Anywhere else and I have to either connect in Charlotte or drive a little over an hour and pray that airport has a direct flight to my final destination at a reasonable time.  Most of the time I end up driving to my final destination because flying only saves an hour or two.

I will! I don't even care if the "kids" are still playing their teenage selves.  In this crazy world where demogorgans and The Upside Down are real what is age.

Brad Paisley's "No I in Beer" (2020) was a new one to me, so you can see I'm a little behind on my country music. What a silly, fun song that is.

Love Brad Paisley. He hits the beats of fun, silly, ridiculous songs, and serious songs. His concerts are a blast, too.

I guess some work environments it's common to share a lot of personal information about oneself?

I went in another office today and two managers were BSing.  Showing phots on their phones, talking about their families, kids, etc...  I mean this is just me but that makes me very uncomfortable for whatever reason.  I understand to a degree one can't be totally anti-social at work.  But there's many things I feel people just dont need to know about.

Everyone has different boundaries about what they are comfortable sharing at work. If you don't want to share, and be 'business only, please', don't share. But there is nothing wrong with two co-workers having what sounds like a casual, friendly conversation sharing things about their personal lives.

That being said, networking and having friendly relationships with co-workers is vital to career growth.  People viewed as "Mr. or Ms. Business, only Business" may hinder career growth. Of course, if they're happy where they are don't have aspirations to grow and lead, this is all moot.

  11. Trust your gut. If you're not feeling it now, you won't be feeling it later. Turn down the second interview and move on.

When I've been in that situation and interviewed, I didn't bring my A-game, didn't get selected to move forward and was upset I was rejected again even though I didn't want the position.

And my power just went out.  The electric company's website says the expected restoration time is 5:30 pm.  Incidentally, the outage area includes the public library, so I won't get to go today, either!  No idea why it went out, either -- the sky is clear and there isn't much wind.  But it is cold, and my heat pump requires electricity to keep me warm.  Fingers crossed it won't really take them all damn day to fix the problem!

My power went out last weekend, someone hit a power pole or transformer and took out the entire zip code. The power company has it back on 3.5 hours later (which is super fast IMO). I hope yours comes back soon!

  13. I had a heck of a time getting the Adam Kinzinger / Willie Nelson to load on demand but it finally did an I am so, so glad I didn't give up because I was able to learn that Taylor Tomlinson is going to be the host of the new After Midnight! I love her so much and while I can't stay awake that late I'll be watching it on demand.

Good God almighty! The ads here are getting awful, especially the Wawa ads that take over the screen. I complained to the site, received a nice response, but was also asked to take a picture of the ads taking over the screen. Can't  do this as it's happening while I'm on my phone and unable to take a picture. It's getting worse & worse. I have an android phone so I'm unable to prevent these damn ads. 🤬

I can't tell you how, but I'm pretty sure it's possible to take a screenshot on an Android phone.  On iPhones it varies by model. I suspect Google could tell you how to do it for your particular phone.  Not that it will probably help with the ads :(

You can take a screenshot on an Android by pressing the power and volume up button. There are also hand gestures over the screen but I'm not sure what they are anymore.

I was standing in the check-out line at the grocery store yesterday, and the woman behind me tapped me on the shoulder.  "I'm sorry," she said, "but usually I have brochures to hand out.  I'm out of them today.  Do you know Jesus?"

So many responses went through my head, from, "Oh, is he the guy from Mexico who works for the roofing company? Doesn't he pronounce it 'Hey-Zeus?'" (there is one -- he's on their TV commercials) to "Oh, yes, he's my mortal enemy, as I'm an agent of Satan."  I was nice, though, and just said, "I'm good, thanks."

My peeve is people trying to "save" me in the grocery store check out line.  Or anywhere, really.

My favorite response is "I'm Jewish, I'm good". Though these days, that could get me beaten up or murdered.

My favorite response to "you're going to hell" isn't "see you there", but "I'm driving the bus, I'll pick you up on the way".

Same here.  In fact, I think the first time I read about this "a couple counts as one, not two" nonsense was on these forums a few years ago.  Ever since, it has been on my radar, and I've come across a few complaints about it.

Going back to the "You don't have to sleep on an air mattress in the kitchen because you're single" aspect:  Comedian Kathleen Madigan comes from a huge family, and all her brothers and sisters got married and had kids, while she is happily single and child-free.  She has talked about being expected to give up her own lake house to sleep in the basement of her parents' neighboring lake house (which she paid for) instead when a bunch of the family gets together there, because it's presumed that the siblings with kids should take over the houses.

    That is some bullshit.

My current house in NV is not set up for visitors. I don't want to be seen as a free crash pad for friends coming to Vegas when they couldn't bother to visit me in GA (can't blame them but still...).

I have a really nice Sealy or Serta airbed (complete with headboard) that I slept on for several weeks while waiting for my bed that the few guests I'll let stay here can use, or they're welcome to stay at one of the million hotels out here.

If I'm lucky enough for my parents to visit they'll get a hotel but if my mom comes solo I'll gladly give her my bed and take the air bed. She is the only person I'll do that for and only because there's no way she could get on or off the air bed due to age and mobility.

Random cute kid moment.  Out with the family yesterday and my 8 yr old granddaughter almost went into the men's room by mistake.  She made me "pinkie swear" that I wouldn't tell anyone.  So shhh, don't pass this on 😀.

Years ago I walked into the men's room at work. Like opened the door and got a few steps in before realizing it. Thankfully, there wasn't anyone in there.
