  1. Yeah, I think that has got to be Laurel's new love interest. He looks cute although he seems a good 3-5 years too young for a retired boxer to me unless they tell us that he retired due to a career- ending injury. I get that there are quite a few Laurel fans who were angry about some of the things that came out at SDCC, but IMO, they should be happy about what seems to be the end of Oliver/Laurel. That was a horrible relationship that only dragged her character down. The introduction of Teg Grant is like a fresh start for her character and they should embrace it. I hope KC and J.R. Ramirez have a good rapport with each other. I may not be a Laurel fan, but I would like to feel something other than indifference when she shows up on my TV screen.

This is what I've never understood about the Laurel fans.  I would think they'd want better for their favorite character than to be wrapped up in the toxic waste dump that is Lauriver/Lauliver (seriously, why is there more than one name).

Oliver is MY favorite and, Olicity shipping aside, I'm certainly glad it doesn't seem like they're going to pursue the O/L relationship anymore.  They bring out the absolute worst in each other and I want better for him than that.

Based on the awful tweets I've seen directed at the writers and SA, it reads a little too much like "she needs a man to be relevant" for my liking.

  2. As for KC... I think her 'no video' rule is a good way for her to go from now on.

This was my exact thought after the way she behaved on Saturday.  Between the IGN interview and the retort to Geoff Johns(!), all I did was cringe for her all day (and that's saying something since I am not a fan...at all).

I don't really find Amell attractive. He's a good-looking guy but he doesn't buckle my knees. But that up there makes my insides flip.

You should meet him in person sometime.  The camera does NOT do that man justice!

  3. Thinking back on everything from 2B to comic con it really does make a lot of things make more sense to me now.

The lead up in S2 A to Oliver and Felicity begins. Oliver and Laurel break up at Tommy's grave. Olicity starts developing and moving forward, including giving them a romantic theme score. We get the Russia episode and the "Life that I lead speech" Felicity is given all the romantic hero beats with creating his bow and putting on his mask to helping him find another way. ( all stuff others have talked in other threads much better than I ever could)

At some point right in there SA goes to the producers and either asks for Olicity or asks to stop hooking up with every female on the show. (maybe after Isabel)

The producers decide to go all in on Olicity but they need to 1. put a nail in Lauriver and 2. They still really really want their Black Canary/Green Arrow hook up. We get the hook up with Sara out of no where to fulfill the writers wish list.  Then they have that OOC moment where Oliver shows up at the Lance dinner just so he can plainly state he's "done" with her. (re-reading that hallway speech I didn't remember how brutal that was. Especially, "Why don't you go get wasted. Go to Verdant and I'll pay for it." Ouch).  They didn't have time to do either of those plot points justice in a more believable way but they had to get them in there.

At this point Kreisenberg goes out and makes the comparison between Lois and Clark but most people over look the full quote which goes on to says "But Laurel will always be one of the closest people to him, whether that’s romantic or not.  That’s why it’s so powerful to us that, in his darkest hour, Laurel is the one who pulls him out of it."  (which is blah, blah, blah about the speech she gives him but it is the first indication we get from the producers that Lauriver might not be their OTP)

Moving forward to the finale, the producers thought they were being clear about the "Unthinkable" act that Oliver had to do, sacrificing the woman he loves to save the city. But it wasn't clear and people debated. Did he lie to her about loving her? Did he sacrifice Felicity to save Laurel? That was what all the talk on line and the media the day after the finale aired. They send SA out at Upfronts to all but say it was not a fake out and to reassure people that they would deal with it next season. But people still debate it.

The WB, CW, and DC twitters, tumblrs and facebook go all in on Felicity and Olicity all summer long RTing and posting fanart  positive Olicity comments and romantic quotes. DC announces that Felicity's character is moving over to the comics and that Olicity's playful banter will be included in that.

Then at Comic Con they decide to make it extremely clear where this season is going. They want to pad the landing and prepare the people who aren't into Oliver and Felicity to minimize the upset during the season and like someone said above, reassure the Olicity fans that this is being taken seriously.  So SA is tasked with breaking the news that Sara and Laurel ships are done. Felicity is the one woman going forward this season. He's very careful to say Sara and Laurel and Oliver will be together just not together, together.  This is backed up in smaller interviews by the EPs.  The PR people are very careful to keep the woman out of it.  KC and EBR aren't present during any of these interviews, which keeps KC from having to sit through question after question about Olicity (The Arrow panel moderator basically used Olicity to whip the fans up during the whole panel. Imagine if KC was sitting there for that). And EBR is kept away to stop Olicity from taking over all the Arrow talk, reassuring fans that the romance will not take over the show and to make sure that the anger the Lauriver fans feel is not directed at her but confined to the EPs and SA.  The ladies are kept out of the autographs line so they don't get questioned on it and the which one of the Lances will be the Black Canary question. The only big event they are all together for, beyond photo sessions away from the public is the large DC panel, which is less likely to break down into a Arrow/Olicity conversation with so much going on besides those issues.

In addition the EPs do not announce Sara as a recurring character for this season, they tease Ted Grant, they tease the jacket and "Laurel's journey" and I'm sure they would have done more of that if any of the interviews would have asked. As it was, they had to keep bringing it up when they weren't asked. They give KC the chance to hint at it during the DC panel the biggest event, to further point toward Black Canary. She misses her chance by trying to be funny but they set her up for it. The EPs try to make Laurel fans happy by admitting yes the romance is gone but she will still have an important role going forward.

(not trying to be conspiracy theory here. This is just a comment on the PR side and how when I add everything up I really get a clear picture of how this came about.)

I think this is a brilliant analysis!  It would certainly explain a LOT.

  4. I hope Ra's is an older actor who - Lazarus Pits not withstanding - looks like he could be the father of Nyssa.  As much as I adore Paul Blackthorne and John Barrowman in their roles on the show, they both are too young to be fathers to their character's children.  Susanna Thompson, Jamey Sheridan and (I can't remember his name) the actor who played Yao Fei all were more believable in that aspect.

For what it's worth - Byron Mann (Yao Fei), Paul Blackthorne and John Barrowman are all about the same age - 46, 45 and 47...respectively

  5. The one thing I did see that stuck out was surely Rachel's parents would be one of her emergency contacts?

Harvey said he was one of her emergency contacts.  Maybe the hospital couldn't reach her parents or they just hadn't arrived yet.

  6. The Kennishes were "on their way" from wherever they were flying in from and no mention of John at all for Daphne's wedding day.

I've already deleted it from my DVR, but didn't Daphne mention feeling like the luckiest girl because she had two dads to walk her down the aisle?

  7. Can someone remind me where Wyatt is staying? All I remember is that he came back hoping to stay with a friend, the friend's parents refused, so he was living in his car. How did that get resolved? And btw, I've re-glazed a window, and it honestly isn't that hard. But I guess it's better for the story if the teen fix didn't work.

Isn't he staying with Callie's friend Daphne?

  8. @ramble, ha!  I call my ex Satan, the Spawn of Satan or just plain old F*ckwit.  It's fitting.  I feel like he doesn't even deserve his given name any longer.

I call my ex Satan, too  lol  Can't bring myself to use his name.

  9. I told myself when I watched this I would not cry. No matter how overwhelmed I was with the nostalgia and how excited I was to have Cory and Topanga in my life again, I would not cry.

I made it all the way until the end. Then, I saw Feeny and he said, "Well done, Mr. Matthews" and I freaking fell apart. I crumbled like three day old birthday cake.

You and me, both.  I wasn't expecting to feel at all emotional about this show, but Feeny did me in.  The pilot didn't have the same "feel" for me as BMW, but I still liked it.  Ben's new nose, however, is really weirding me out.

  10. It's not uncommon to fingerprint people who work in K-12 education.  My prints are on file in the state of Maryland because my first job out of college was as an administrator at a private school.

I was going to say the same thing.  I worked as a teacher's assistant for a couple of years while I was in college and I had to have fingerprints on file before I could start.

  11. Stephen Amell Phoenix ComicCon June 5-8 (only on the Saturday)

He posted yesterday on Facebook that now he'll also be there Friday night.  He said something about "overflow" and he hoped this would take care of it.  Awesome guy.

He'll also be at Denver Comic Con - June 13th to 15th (as of right now, he'll only be there on Saturday the 14th)

  12. That's like when people blame the writing and all I can think is, everyone in the writing room somehow sucks at writing Laurel?

I agree and will add "and have no problem writing for every other character"?

I think there's plenty of blame to go around, though.  It's obvious to me that whoever writes for the character has no idea what to do with her, but KC also has no clue what to do with anything she is given (there have been a few good things and she's dropped the ball every time).

  13. My issue has always been that I don't feel like I'm watching a character named Laurel...I feel like I'm watching Katie Cassidy "acting".  Everyone else on the show sucks me into their character and I completely forget that the person isn't real.  That just doesn't happen with Laurel.  Like Sakura said, she doesn't feel real.

  14. So did Oliver have Laurel be his lawyer because he knew she would be so firm in her conviction that he couldn't be the arrow?

I'm re-watching season 1, so I'll have to check to be sure, but didn't Oliver even say something along these lines?  He wanted her to represent him because she'd never believe he could care enough about the city to be the vigilante?  Have I totally fabricated this in my head?  lol

  15. Poor Justin.  But isn't he on Revenge now? I don't watch it but I've heard he has a gig on that.

He was.  Briefly.  I'm not sure if there are plans to bring him back, but his character left about 3/4 of the way through this last season.  He was good on the show, but nothing to write home about, IMO.

I've never seen one minute of Smallville, but I've heard people talk about JH having played GA.  When he showed up on Revenge, I remember thinking "he's cute, but he's no Stephen Amell".  Although, admittedly, I'm quite possibly SA's #1 fan, so... ;)

  16. In Heir to the Demon Laurel saw a masked woman and some ninjas kidnap her mother. She may not realize Nyssa was that masked woman.

She knows Nyssa was the one who kidnapped Dinah.  She described her to Quentin as "the woman who took Mom".

What I cannot figure out if that was not intended that way, why the fuck did they leave it in? Why would the director leave that giddy smile in? Did they just not have enough time to do another take?

She said they did several takes and she couldn't stop smiling throughout all of them, right?  Maybe the director tried to get the scene correct, but it wasn't working and they were out of time.

I guess I'd give a similar answer to "why didn't they just cut it differently?"  I just re-watched that scene and there would have been very little they could have used from that scene since KC was smiling like a lunatic for the majority of it...from right after Sara said "I think that this would look good on you" (before Laurel turned around for Sara to put the jacket on her) until after she turned around and said "it fits".

    - She hasn't read the comics.  Fine.  But then don't refer to the comics as a justification of your character's relationship & destiny with Oliver.

THIS.  You can't have your cake and eat it, too, KC.
