I've been waiting to see your reaction to "Pitch", and when I saw this article come up here, I said "I bet Sarah wrote this one" as I clicked on it. I'm not watching it right now since the Tigers are playing pretty much a must-win game against the Twins as I type this, but I'm even more willing to give it a chance, now. I'm curious now if you've read "Throw Like a Woman" by Susan Patrone. It has a very different protagonist and a somewhat less-than-believable premise (Think "The Rookie", but with a mom) and it suffers from some of the same issues you mention here. But I fell in love with the character and enjoyed it in the same "I want to see myself in this game" way that you talk about here.
