  1. I officially gave up on the show this episode, when the shop owner went from flying off the handle and threatening the kid with a shotgun, to shooting his son and then throwing himself in front of armed police officers to defend the kid he almost just shot 5 minutes ago. Complete with "and now I've learned the error of my ways"-type monologue.

The show lacks all subtlety. And I'm an Asian who was over the moon about an Asian lead.

  2. I like the show, the stories are fine but the acting is better.

That being said, I get stuck on where Gabi is going with the Sir in the basement strategy. What's the endgame? He doesn't seem like the type to be chastised after going through what he put how many girls through. She's a smart woman, and keeping this man in the basement of her actual home for 8 months to a year -- not, say, some remote cabin in the middle of nowhere, even -- seems like something one can't jut walk back with a "my bad" when it goes sideways.

  3. "Swords are fun."

"Whoever leaked this information is an honorable maverick..."

Yeah, I do need more Worf in future Trek.

I thought it was rich of freshly freed Tuvok to be all "The command crew of the USS Enterprise are receiving a full pardon." Yeah, I'd hope so, considering Play-Doh was walking around with Tuvok's face for who knows how long.

I do think the Laris thing sucks since she was one of the best parts of the first two seasons.

I must admit, I am amused at how hard S2 worked to position Picard and Laris, only for Matalas and Co. to be like: "Ehhhh. Nah. We have other things to spend money on."

I forgot to mention, I do appreciate how there was no big death/sacrifice amongst the aged Next Gen cast. We've been there so often with Data that I liked that we didn't have any sad, lingering glances at an empty seat in the final scene. Just laughter and cards.

I get that she was mentioned a few days across the show, but I love to hear why the show just forgot Kestra in the last two episodes. Did anyone bother to mention to Data that he has a daughter now? And whatever happened to Laris? Or Elnor? Seven and Raffi were all about how he was their family last year, you'd think they'd bring him up or want him on the ship with them.

It's like Matalas was told he wasn't beholden to the first two seasons of Picard, and given what big bag fulls of Meh both seasons were, I ain't mad at it. This season had its faults and then some, but I'd rather sit through more of even Amanda Plummer eating all the scenery whole than force everyone to make space for Elnor and Data's Traveler daughter.

That being said, I do find it interesting that they were able to shove that blonde Admiral in for the exposition dump last episode, but we couldn't get Wesley Crusher, brother to Jack Crusher, biological son of Jack Crusher the First and Admiral Beverly Crusher in for at least a Zoom chat at some point, but whatever.

Anyway, I loved the snark and the side-eye, especially when Beverly went HAM on the Borg cube and was like, "Look, a lot has changed in the past 20 years." I'm easily satisfied, I guess, but I enjoyed this.

    - The "surprise adult son"-trope was tired 40 years ago. How re so many people seemingly completely fine with it?

I see what you did there, picking "40 years ago" since that's when Jack was born...

I get it, though. It's gotta be really hard to find 20-year-old white guys for roles in Hollywood. 🙄

I did kinda like the line "I knew I could raise my son. I didn't know if I could raise Jean-Luc Picard's." But a Beverly who'd not only get pregnant and give birth without telling Jean-Luc but also name the kid after her dead husband is not the Beverly I remember from Next Gen. Yeeeeeesh.

Season Finale: Voit has Rossi in his grip and comes up against the limits of his technical knowledge and mental strength. The BAU is increasingly getting a grip on Voit as he shows how far he is willing to go with his deadly practices.

  8. What is up with all the parents and adults acting like kids fleeing from a fire and batshit crazy animal attacks is no big deal?

Also, for two people all concerned about threatening calls, Everett and Blake sure do wander around outside a lot.

If the bites could fix and sex up Everett and Blake, why was Connor still needing crutches?

Asian cop is for sure going to die soon, given he jumps straight into dick mode whenever he says anything.

But in any case, yes, sexually abused children tend to act out when they hit their teen years, they still deserve patience and compassion.

Act out? 100%. Absolutely. Act out because they believe they've been given a mission by two representatives of the alien race she just happens to be partially from supposedly?

Not so much. 14-year-old Jan's willingness to not just believe that but repeatedly run away to be with her 40-year-old rapist so she can save an alien society is mind-boggling.

  10. I believe women and no child should ever be held responsible in the slightest bit for their abuse.

THAT BEING SAID, Holy Mother of All That's Holy, Jan Broberg has done herself no real favors by dramatizing her kidnapping. I usually love McKenna Grace in anything, but she can't make alternating between "I AM PRACTICALLY AN ADULT!!!11!!!" and "We must please Zethra and Zeta and give them a baby with my 40-year-old rapist" and watching her flee her own home is crazy-making.

I'm really more of an 80s kid, but I have vague memories of the late 70s, and plenty of memories of being a 14-year-old girl, and nobody I knew would have bought that they were a half-alien who must bear a child to save their offworld race.

The only Broberg who isn't stupid AF seems to be the middle girl; Jan, Bob and especially MaryAnn were all horribly easy marks for "B," it seems. Also, I haven't seen Anna Paquin in a lot, but since she has an Oscar, I'm assuming she has modes other than "constipated face"?

  11. Has Ryan Murphy ever spent time around actual people? ALL of the neighbors went from 0 to batshit crazy within 15 seconds of being introduced.

This would have been way creepier in any other showrunners' hands.

  12. It took me far too long to realize that nearly every story was actually a Christopher Pike book, of which I read many as a teen in the 90s.

As someone with cancer, much of this hit home, especially the nausea meds with nausea as a side effect. True story.

Spence was my favorite; Illonka was annoying; I'm OK with Anya missing from any future possible seasons.

    ETA:

Janitor (as he's credited), about Anya: "Your friend? She lived deep. And she was kind."

LOL, OK, Janitor man. I'm assuming that was in the 5 months before we saw.
