I think Sofia is going to meet a grisly end after taking a sledge hammer to Lee's hand; she crossed a line with that scene.  Jim is no longer the idealistic, by-the-book cop we met in Season 1; I think he would eliminate her not only for the greater good but for pure revenge.  Grundy could easily rip her apart.  It's Gotham; they will find a creative way for retribution.

There's no way what happened to, say, Theo Galavan happens to Sofia. She's a woman.

I've only ever seen PL on Mad Men, and she was fine there. Nothing spectacular was required of her, but she played her part well. I wonder if she got the note that this is a new "mature" Ivy, so she's underplaying it. But she needs to look around and see that everyone else is not just playing to the back row, but (to steal/paraphrase a line from Trixie Mattel) playing to the check-cashing place around the corner.

No, the thing is Peyton is overacting the "being the villain" part of Ivy, and she's utterly failing at it.

She does not f¤¤king have the chops. Christ, and I thought there was nothing that could make me miss Maggie Geha.

At this point, I think I like the idea of this new Ivy more than what she’s actually bringing. PL needs to turn it up a bit. Honey, it’s Gotham - turn it up to 11 and break off the knob (but stop before you get to Uma Thurman).

Jim was far less annoying this episode, except for his interactions with Sofia. He goes back and forth or whether or not they have a deal like the writers can’t remember or decide what’s going on there. But I think he was better because he was with Bruce a bit. Jim is always better with Bruce.

I had to laugh at the envelope Oswald mails - even his handwriting is loud and over the top.

Peyton List is horrible in the role. Strike that, she just might be just horrible. I haven't watched her in anything else but from what I hear she's supposed to be a good actress, but on Gotham, she might be the only character more wooden-acted than Jim Gordon. It's like watching paint dry.

And the most horrible thing of all is that this entire script could have been played by Clare Foley and it would have been a tremendous improvement. Ivy would be far more menacing if she was all these things - if she'd "changed a lot", which was just Selina trying to sell her "awesome villainousness" - and she still looked like a tiny little girl.

Jerome didn't stand out as much as I thought he would.

That's because actually, Cameron Monaghan isn't that bloody great an actor. It's the perfect casting and the scripts that have made him a standout, not his phenomenal skills. Sure, he's good, but he's no better than David, Robin, Cory or even Erin.

I loved Harvey with the chicken. So random.

Don't think it's random. It seems a reference to Carmine Falcone, who raised chickens. Show didn't let us forget that either (Sofia referenced it this season.)

My random addition - boy, did Robin ever jump at the romantic Nygmobblepot angle and totally run away with it in that scene with Edward. "You're still in there." Wow, just wow. All he had to act against was a tiny piece of paper and you just saw him completely overcome with emotion. This is why that ship is so beloved.

I guess I'm the only one who likes Butch and Tabitha and hope those crazy kids get it together (but I agree that Tabitha rejecting Butch made zero sense).

Oh, I liked Butch and Tabitha too, that's why I'm angry with the show for doing such a piss poor job with them lately.

I think S4 has done a great job stating that Jim is driven by his ego. Jim wants to feel better about himself, and he does that by being "the hero" and getting all the adulation that comes with that. Jim has proven, time and again, that he will do whatever it takes, even if it means cutting a corner or cutting out a friend, to get his desired outcome.

That's what makes him such a great and relatable lead character.

    • So are they seriously still going with Selina not knowing Bruce is Batman? I mean, I guess Selina is that special kind of girl who thinks Dad is Santa Claus if he puts on a fake beard.
    • Seriously Peyton List would be an “old” recast for Ivy even if this was Smallville, with teens played by 25-year-olds.
    • Don’t mean to be a total buzzkill but I don’t know why people assume Bruce and Selina are going to “reunite” just because they share a fight scene and some flirts in the promo. Let’s not forget that pesky little “Grace”. Or, well, let’s, I’d much rather forget her, but I have a feeling the show won’t allow me to.

Huh. I guess we're supposed to assume that Alfred hasn't been taking a salary in the last few years and has just been living off the Wayne billions because technically he did control that as Bruce's legal guardian. And now he's cut off and has nothing. There is a significant lack of preparation here which is very unlike Alfred!

Dunno if it's un-Alfred. I've never seen Alfred place any value whatsoever in his own well-being.

    You misspelled "Legends of Tomorrow".

In your review (or one of the comments), you speak of "bubblegum shows". After the lackluster first season (where it did take itself as high drama), it has embraced the crazy to be one of the best shows on TV.  Every one of the cast works well with any other, especially since they dialed down on Nate's bro-ness.  Even Zara, the new recruit, fits in seamlessly.

    Best ensemble by far.

I gave up on LoT during season one because it was so bad. I may have to revisit it.

In other news I'm often a bit down on people commenting on my reviews by intentionally obfuscating matters and selectively quoting me in order to make me into some kind of misogynist. People seem to think I mind "women being bad-ass". What I mind is "bad-assery" as a substitute for well written and multi-dimensional women, and I think the current discourse about cross-gender violence in modern television is very, very dangerous. :-/

Also I finished my Harvey Dent review because I had to post it to get the foul taste of the midseason finale out of my mouth.
