  1. Finally got around to watching the finale. I'm curious about what the numbers from itunes/amazon look like. Shane baffles me honestly. Unclear how much of his lack of insight is personality driven or editing. And I guess I'm getting old (interestingly, I'm still in this fools demographic), because I too was bothered by him sighing teenager boobs because I feel like it's emblematic of what bothers me the most about him. He doesn't know where to draw the line and nor is he interested in hearing from other people when they think he has crossed the line. This is why he ended up with a movie full of gags. No he is not responsible for policing what his fans watch, wear, do, but honestly he's a 20-something yr old man. This is where, as an adult, he should go, "yes, I know you're a big fan, but that's not appropriate." His attacks on Quinto were ridiculous, but his point about Quinto having read the script was valid. What happened between then, and why didn't Quinto say something even when he was clearly horrified when he visited the set and Shane was doing that drag character. Not that Shane would have listened, but at least it would have been on record. His rant about not wanting people to think he stuff was offensive was amazingly ironic. LOL, then maybe try to not to make movies/youtube videos with a punch jokes based on stereotypes. And I guess if you are, they at least need to be funny. I really like Corey Moosa, so I really want to read an article where he talks about what he liked about this movie. Casual offensiveness aside, I laughed maybe twice during the whole thing. It just wasn't funny. I liked American Pie and actually watched Superbad the other day for comparison purposes & Not Cool is not comparable. For how neurotic and indecisive they made Anna look, she got a good edit at the end. I felt like she actually grew and you saw how she became more confident as it went on. I wish her well. She needs to take Victor's twitter away though. Great show, I hope they bring it back. I was engrossed. Kudos to the producers!
  2. I ain't gonna lie, I spent some time going through twitter timelines yesterday with some popcorn. My eyes almost rolled out of my head when I saw that. He's soooo passive aggressive on twitter, lol! I imagine it is hard not to personalize things when one of your producers writes a harsh critique & the other team, like everyone else who is not a fan, thinks your movie sucks. But that's where my sympathy ends with him. I get the sense that he doesn't seem interested in understanding why someone who is partly responsible for giving him the opportunity would critique him like that. That Wrap article was pointed in it's criticism and I did feel at times condescending to his audience, but his actual critique of the movie and some of Shane's process I felt was accurate. Yes, words like racist, homophobic, and misogynistic are strong, but when you cast minorities, gay characters, overweight actors for the sole purpose of them being used as stereotypes & jokes, make jokes about rape, and turn a female character into a one-dimensional sex-crazed cartoon. What words should be used to describe that. And if that wasn't his intention like Moosa said, then the movie obviously failed to depict that and the end result is still the same. Sure it's all fairly casual in it's presentation, but there is too much a of it. (I'd actually argue that casual homophobia, racism, etc is a lot detrimental than overt isms). Then on top of that, the jokes weren't even funny. Honestly, he can miss me with that poor me, people think my movie sucks, and are "emotionally abusing me." Lauren is lovely. I liked her hat. I'd like to see her direct something. I feel like she could have made the movie Shane thought he was making. While I think engaging tweens on twitter is futile, I understand Team Anna's frustration. The competition element is very unfair, but then I'm like,Victor, you're grown. Step away from twitter. And I half feel like Dodson wrote that article to let folks in the business know that his company or whatever clearly thinks that movie is terrible and wants to be forgiven for being a part of it. Especially since it looks like they have a movie coming out for the Oscar race. This has all been highly entertaining to me though, lol
  3. Yes. Found this interesting and it explains a lot. Dude, if you wanna go around writing raunchy, offensive jokes, then you need to learn how to take it when people tell you they are offended. Kudos to Anna for requesting a test audience and actually listening to the feedback. Felt like she was really interested in hearing actual feedback. The two female leads in her movie do look alike, and the only reason I knew they were different was because I watched the show. They also did a lot of editing with the Quinto scene, makes me think it wasn't nearly as dramatic as they wanted it to be. They basically showed the whole clip in the preview. I thought there'd be more. I liked that he pointed out that some of that stuff was offensive, since apparently the rest of them thought it was so LOL funny. Baffling to me, especially in light of the reviews.
  4. Watched both. Hollidaysburg. For the most part I liked it. I'd watch it again. I was surprised at how much I related to aspects of it. At times it definitely had that pretentiousness you find from indies, but overall it was a good movie. The cinematography was great. It definitely looked like a professionally made film. I preferred the secondary storyline to the main one. There was some good dialogue that you could unpack for meaning and then some that made me roll my eyes. It's the better movie by far. Not Cool - Not much to say, other than what has been said. It's bad, unfunny, and offensive. I love that he wanted to cast all these minority actors but then used them as nothing but stereotypes and punchlines. If that's all you want them for, I'd rather you just not have any in the movie. That sad thing is, I see what he was going for. I was surprised at how well the lead actress did, but his writing so...lacking in any thought that it was a waste. I see why Quinto wanted his name off it. Neither he nor Neal Dodson are credited. Dawson seems like a decent guy, but when multiple sources are telling you your content is offensive, you need to start thinking about why that is.
  5. ^^^ Found this article on twitter this morning: http://xfinity.comcast.net/blogs/tv/2014/10/31/exclusive-clip-zachary-quinto-voices-anger-over-filmmakers-smut-in-the-chair/ Curious how much he was kept updated on what was happening. I remember Corey telling Shane that he was keeping Zach informed. Also curious to know if he voiced any of these concerns to Shane, beyond the vague be mindful of taste we've heard hims say during the interviews. Looks like shit is about to go down. I don't know what annoys me more about Dawson, his cheap offensive humor or his inability to understand why other people would find his humor cheap and offensive. But I will watch the movie and try my best to be objective. I found a free link. I will rent Anna's since the thought of spending money on hers doesn't cause me pain. People seem to be liking it.
