I can see Tony pouring over the tech files, but he didn't know his parents had been murdered at that point, so without a question to answer in his mind about that, I don't think he would have spent any of that time looking at old assassination files.

The same guy who, as soon as he got onto the SHIELD Helicarrier, planted a bug that gave him access to "every dirty secret SHIELD has" (although, obviously not all of them, because SHIELD seems to have no end of secrets)? He'd have set up an algorithm to download and decrypt ever kilobyte of data that was released, and then peruse it all at his leisure.

Tony had JARVIS doing the decrypting in The Avengers. I would think a file about a HYDRA operation to get super soldier serum on the date of his parents death would capture his attention.

Steve did nothing, that we saw, to move the investigations along on the ground. Tony obtained the information about the fake psychiatrist via Friday, who presumably culled it from police feeds after the police crashed into the hotel room where the real psychiatrist's body was found. All of which happened after Zemo himself called the hotel from Siberia so that the hotel staff could discover the body.

Steve didn't know about the dead psychiatrist.  But, at the airport, he approached Team IronMan by himself and told him about Zemo going to Siberia where the other Winter Soldiers were kept. Tony didn't want to listen to him.  He called in Underoos to web Steve.

Tony presented actual proof about Zemo to Ross who basically scoffed at him.

So for Steve to take affront on her being held in a 'nice prison' in the USA instead of being deported? She can't even take to being 'grounded'? Nope, I have zero respect for Steve for that. Wanda isn't above the law and shouldn't be any more special than any ordinary person who makes lethal mistakes in the line of duty.

But at that point Wanda hadn't broken any law. She simply refused to sign.  So yeah, okay, she's not a citizen, deport her.  I think Steve saw that as the beginning of a slippery slope. Detention without due process.  Which is exactly what happened to Sam, Clint, Wanda & Scott.  Even Tony was surprised they were being held in the raft.

Speaking of Scott, why was he being held there?  Either the Accords apply only to the Avengers or they don't.  If they don't then Peter Parker & T'Calla are just as guilty of operating without UN sanction as Team Cap.

  3. The whole Accords things is so messed up.

Ross shows up with Tony, drops a phonebook sized document on the table, gives them an ultimatum "sign this or retire" and tells them The Accords WILL be ratified in 3 days.  That really doesn't give Steve or anyone else who may object time to read/study the hundreds of pages of legalese or have the opportunity to get some lawyers to look at.  Ross isn't leaving any room for negotiation.  Steve is the only shown actually reading them prior to getting the text about Peggy.

I just can't figure Tony in this.

Either 1) he's so fucked up emotionally that he's grasping at anything to relieve his guilt and is willing to sign without going through the Accords with a fine toothed comb.

    or

    2) he's had advanced notice of the Accords, read them, but didn't tell anyone else and just decided he knew what would be best.

Personally, I lean towards option 1.

As far as his parents' murder: Zemo explicitly states he found out about the 1991 mission by decrypting the SHIELD/HYDRA files that Natasha released and that led him the Russian handler for the paper files.  We're supposed to believe that Tony wasn't all over those files like ants at a picnic? Really?  Tony values information.

In Cap2, Zola implies to Steve and Natasha that HYDRA was responsible for the Starks' death.  Neither of them had any clue the Winter Soldier was involved.

I really wish we got at true follow-up to Cap2. Steve and Sam with the help of Natasha and possibly Sharon tracking down Bucky with Zemo and the other Winter Soldiers as the big bad. The bones of it are still there in Civil War. I just feel that Cap's final solo movie got highjacked by Tony's manpain.

She retires the same way as anyone else - by not working any more. It's not like Clint can turn off being good with a longbow; or Steve could turn off being strong; but they're perfectly capable of not being a vigilante anymore.

The biggest problem with this film (IMO) is also what made it a film at all. Whoever drafted the accords had to be holding an idiot ball larger than Tony's ego to get where they did. Had the accords said something like "When the Avengers have intel that needs action we will alert the relevant authorities (law enforcement, military, political) in the relevant country, and co-ordinate with them. For non-enhanced threats, then we will provide back-up for local forces; when enhanced threats, we request back-up from local forces. If the sovereign nation does not want us acting within their borders then we will not do so (or face the consequences)".

Basically, it's an absolute no-brainer that sovereign states want to be treated like sovereign states; it's an absolute no-brainer than using military force without permission (or hell, even alerting) the locals is an act of war; it's an absolute no-brainer that a degree of oversight and co-operation is necessary for a group like the avengers. Equally, it's an absolute no-brainer that individuals aren't going to react well to a fait-accompli of "you're my bitch now" for reasons of... err... plot?

Had the accords been drafted with even half an ounce of common sense; then they would have been signed by everyone; Bucky would have been captured; sprung by Zemo and captured again - all with very little bloodshed. The team would have been united when they received intel about the other 5 winter soldiers; and they'd have arrived to find the 5 corpses as a team. Tony would have seen that video of his parents whilst surrounded by a full and functional support network; and in the absence of someone obvious to blame and lash out at. It would have made rather a boring film, however; so the idiot ball was held, nurtured and held on tightly.

As it is, the team is split - and will likely remain so for Avenger 3.0; where team Stark will take on the big bad and lose; then for Avengers 3.5 Team Cap will join up with Stark, present a united front, and defeat the big bad. It's the only possible way of needing 2 films to tell the story, especially if the avengers have to lose the first act but win the final. The only alternative is that they face the big bad united and lose; change nothing in order to face the big bad a second time; but things happen to go differently; which... yeah - that's not going to be happening.

But that's just it.  She didn't sign and ended up under house arrest because of her powers.

I agree.  The way the Accords are presented is a huge problem.  We have no idea what exactly the accords say.  What the movies tells us is that they mean the Avengers can only go where the UN authorizes. And Ross, for some unknown reason, appears to be the one that was put in charge of the Avengers.

    Quote

I thought Clint had retired between the last Avengers movie and this one? I thought the Accords were introduced in Civil War, after Clint had already peaced out...?

Maybe he did.  But he's listed a signatory on the Accords along with Tony, Steve, Rhodey, Natasha, Wanda, Vision, and Sam.

I think she was a dupe initially with Hydra, but once Ultron shows up and she believes that he's going to kill the Avengerss she throws in with him knowingly.

IM has a line after Cap calls keeping her at the compound internment along the lines that she's not a US citizen and the government had refused to issue her a visa. So it's possible that they worked out something between the government and the Avengers to keep her out of jail.

What Tony says is something along the line of they don't give visas to weapons of mass destruction.  And that was why she was being kept at the Avengers' compound, basically under house arrest with Vision as her warden.

That leads to an interesting question.  They were given the choice to sign the Accords or retire.  Clint retired.  How does Wanda retire?  It's not like she can turn off her powers.  Is she going to be kept under house arrest or worse forever?

Robert Downey Jr. Joins 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

    Marvel’s Shell-head is looking to join Marvel’s Web-head.

It looks like the team-up of Spider-Man and Iron Man seen inCaptain America: Civil War won’t be the duo’s last.

Robert Downey Jr., who plays the red and gold-armored Marvel character, has closed a deal to join the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Marvel and Sony’s reboot of the web-crawling superhero, sources tell THR.

Tom Holland will star as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and is making his debut as the character in Civil War (and already garnering praise for his take on the role).

The movie establishes a key relationship between Tony Stark/Iron Man and Parker and Homecoming will continue that thread.

Homecoming has been casting up ahead of its June start of production. Marisa Tomei will play Aunt May, while Zendaya is one of the female leads. Tony Revolori, who starred opposite Ralph Fiennes in The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Laura Harrier, who appeared in the soap opera One Life to Live, are also boarding the production, which is being produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal.

Sony has held the rights to Spider-Man since the 1990s but its recent outings with the character proved unpopular with fans and critics, despite relatively strong box office. Meanwhile, Marvel built itself up as a movie studio, requiring the rights of many of the characters it had licensed out in the 1990s, and then was bought by Disney. Spider-Man was one of a handful that eluded them.

Last year, Sony execs invited Marvel to come in and handle the character, in an effort to restore him to his former glory. One of the ways Marvel is doing that is by introducing Holland as Spider-Man in Civil War before he goes on to his own movie series.

But with Downey’s boarding, it appears that Marvel will continue to keep Spider-Man close not just creatively but also literally; Tony Stark/Iron Man appearing in Homecoming keeps the Sony’s movies strongly tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Downey and his industrialist hero have been cornerstones of Marvel’s film slate even though unlike his other co-stars he has not signed the studio’s complicated multi-pic deals. His last renegotiation included him appearing in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2, as well as Civil War.

His appearance in Homecoming required another round of negotiations. It is unclear whether that is to appear in just Homecoming or subsequent installments.

Now, I love RDJ and Iron Man. And I know that without the success of Iron Man there probably wouldn't be the MCU as we know it now.

But seriously Iron Man does not need to be in every movie in the MCU.

  8. From the Dullards thread:

    http://www.intouchweekly.com/posts/jill-duggar-midwife-complications-99467

Tiffany exclusively reveals that she begged Jill (who was assisting Venessa during her daughter’s birth and had assisted Venessa with more than 100 births while training for her midwife certification) to call 911 at least three times during her brutal 14-hour labor, but Venessa wouldn’t let her, even though “I was crying and screaming out in pain.”

Tiffany also had Group B Strep, which can be extremely dangerous to a baby unless antibiotics are administered, and claims Venessa only offered her holistic remedies.

Venessa disputes the entire story, saying that she did call 911 and that Tiffany refused antibiotics.

In an odd twist, John-David Duggar, then working as an EMT, was the one to rush the newborn to the hospital.

After her traumatic birth, Jozzie spent 54 days in the hospital and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

Does anyone seriously believe JD is a licensed EMT?  I sure don't.  There is no way he completed the training to be even the lowest level EMT.

    http://www.topemttraining.com/emt-training/arkansas/

    Eligibility Criteria

The student must be of 18 years old.
The student must possess a driving license.
The student must have passed a 10th grade or high school.
He/she should possess a current CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification.
He/she should be free from any criminal background.
        He/she needs to provide a drug-checkup.
The student need to provide their immunization proofs for diseases, such as mumps, measles, diphtheria, tetanus, rubella, chickenpox, hepatitis B, as well as pertussis.
The students must provide a negative report of Tuberculosis, a Chest X-ray and a flu shot, within last one year.

    Coursework

Given below is the list of coursework, which a student studies in EMT training programs:

        The human body
Medical, legal and ethical issues of EMS
        Basic about EMT (Pharmacology)
Ways to properly move and lift patients
Respiratory, cardiac, pediatric, poison, allergy and diabetic emergencies
        Bleeding and shock management
        Environmental and behavioural emergencies
Patient assessment, patient history, documentation and communication
        Epinephrine auto-injector
        Airway management
        Obstetrics and gynaecological emergencies
Injuries in head, neck, spine, chest, abdomen, musculoskeletal and soft tissues
        Vital signs

However, you will not study the whole curriculum in one go. You will complete this coursework at different training levels.

  9. scriggle,

King T'Chaka dies, but I think everyone kind of figured that out from the trailer. No one from our heroes dies, but someone is very very hurt. But I think the movie is still so emotional without having someone die. This to me personally, shows how well the movie was written, directed and acted. There are consequences for everyone because of this fight.

Thank you!  I can live with that.  Why do I still have to wait 3 weeks to see it?

  10. Not sure how this works, so bear with me if I mess up...just wanted to see whether I could post a photo of a painting I just (mostly) finished. I have a bunch of half-done pieces lying around and always seem to either get aggravated because they are not cooperating, or I like they way they are coming and am scared to do more for fear of messing them up. I actually started this one almost a year ago, liked the sky, and kept getting painter's block over the water. But I think I'm actually reasonably happy with it now and just felt like sharing :)

  11. I'm going to look for spoilers too, this movie might be too emotional for me otherwise. Lifting the embrago this early, shows that marvel is very confident in this movie.

I agree.  Marvel must gotten a lot of very positive feedback from the screenings to lift the embargo so quickly.

  12. Oh...will I be avoiding all social media, or will I be desperately searching for spoilers so I do not cry in theaters in front of people...choices are hard!

I, for one, will be seeking out every spoiler I can, otherwise this movie will kill me.

  13. I'll be doing my family's traditional Easter brunch.  The centerpiece will be pizza gaina (sp?) which I'll make on Friday - because that's when my mother did it and she always said it had to be made on Good Friday. There'll also be prosciutto, soprasata, strawberries, pineapple, cantaloupe, and a cheese plate.  Dessert will be a pizza dolce (ricotta pie) since I finally figured out how to make one that tastes like the one from my favorite Italian bakery.  And all this will be gluten-free as my father and sister-in-law both have celiac.

  14. True fact I used to work for the company that makes those shopping carts for kids.

ETA: there's a warning label on the car that explicitly states children SHOULD NOT be allowed on top of the car. But we all know the Duggars think things like that don't apply to them. Because Jesus.

  15. If anyone is lurking: I admit I never pay much attention to "Loyalty" as it is such a downer. But...I caught more than usual than I remembered before with G/E seeing Ross dead in a body bag.

Wasn't he on that boat undercover when it exploded? If so, how the hell was there a body? Did the man regenerate in death?

Haven't seen it in a while, but I think Ross got gunned down in his car.  G/E arrive on the scene and the feds are taking control and Goren is having none of it.  He was yelling "He's our captain!"  (Rather over the top and OOC imho considering Ross and Goren's relationship or lack thereof.)

  16. My copy of People (don't judge me, I had airline miles that were about to expire so I turned them into like 8 magazine subscriptions) came in the mail yesterday.

    What a load of BS.

Here's what the little blurbs about each kid say,

Joy, 18: Is finishing their home-school curriculum (I thought they finished at 16). Helps with the family real estate busy biy painting an tiling. Also does party planning (Maybe she's apprenticing with Sierra.)

Jana, 26: Handles the design for the houses the family flips (Jana - Architect/Interior Designer, yup). "Ripping out walls, painting, putting in electrical outlets and light fixtures--it's a lot of fun." (more like lots of code violations.)

Jinger, 22: Buys, restores, and sells cars. (Really?!) Works in a prison ministry--at max security & juvenile prisons.

John-David, 26: Pilot.  Part-time police officer (Lie.  Constable does not equal police officer).  Helps with the family real estate and used car business (I thought Boob got rid of the used car lot)

Josiah, 19: Working towards his pilot's license.  Does the prison ministry thing with Jinger.

Joseph, 21: Went to Clown College for a year and now is back in the family business (grifting).

Ben, 20: Being a new dad. Finishing undergraduate studies online at Moody Bible Institute. Volunteers at a local church.  Bible study every Friday and has friends over to talk.  (But no job)

Jessa, 23: Stay-at-home mom.  Still into date nights.  Exploring adoption but won't proceed until Spurge is 9 months old.

    The Dullards didn't rate blurbs.
