No, but their computers will kick out any social security number that's already been filed.

In today’s e-filing world, sure.  But what about during the years of mailing everything in on paper?  I wonder if any repeats or fake numbers  were written off to operator error in earlier technology days.  Remember the days of multiple IRS processing centers for sending off returns?
Then again, the IRS was able to convict Capone when bootlegging couldn’t: maybe they beat Geraldo to the vaults…..

The men probably know they can't file the same social security number twice.  They probably file a married joint return with the first wife, and then they file for the second wife as a single woman. Lots of women let the man do the taxes and pay no attention to what he's doing.

Is the IRS that quick to find bigamy?  They’re so slow to find people working W2 jobs with phony Social Security numbers.  And even my county is slow to find fraudsters: there are property owners who claim the homeowners exemption on multiple houses, even the ones they rent out in a clear violation of the statute, but no one seems to check.

I thought the DA said they called the Judge "cankles" but I might have miss heard.

I don't think Russ rejected anyone lol. I think the DA and Cops had tunnel vision and Russ wasn't The DA's kind of person. She seemed very dismissive of his hobbies and friends and some mean girls  grow up to be mean women.  Small town cliques are very real.

Cliques are in big cities too - there are just more of them.  And more wannabes.  Sometimes I wonder who does more damage: the mean girl or the wannabe sucking up to her.  This behavior isn’t gender-particular, but my own experience hasn’t involved males.

This is making me so incredibly angry!!!  Pam Hupp is the absolute worst, but holy cow was that entire trial against Russ slanted to benefit Pam!  Between the prosecutor and the judge, Russ never stood a chance!

We can leave high school, but some mean girls and their acolytes never graduate to fully-formed humans.

  5. What scares me about the whole Betsy Faria murder case is how quickly everyone was to suspend their own disbelief in the face of the loudest voice, one speaking words that can’t hold up against questions. The only thing in favor of such words is the fact that it saves the listener from exercising judgment in the first place.  But then the listeners will go through such logical contortions to justify the loud nonsense later.  Critical thinking skills are lost.  Our society reacts first, and thinks much later, if at all.

How many other Russ Farias are there? And how many Pam Hupps?

So the answer was: scenes of Murray with nobody else in the same shot and a stand-in whose face they kept off-camera.

    How awkward and ignominious.
Richard Marx was enjoyable, definitely the highlight of the episode.

But have the writers ever been outside of California?  No one plans outdoor wedding  in March in Philadelphia.
    I miss Pops!

  7. I’m with everyone else glad to see this show back!  And both stories were personally relevant: like Sam, I delayed something web-related; when the bad news came, there was a Flower-equivalent as a comfort.    Now if only there was a live storyteller to replace my  tv……

The side conversations were hilarious, especially all the maybes and Hetty’s response to Trevor

I get your point but somewhere Paul Robinette is sobbing.

I forgot about Paul!  Thanks for the reminder.  But why can’t the second chair work with a female lead?

Now that I think of Robinette, it would be good to have him as DA.  Nothing against Waterston, but why isn’t McCoy retired?

  9. GRAMMAR MATTERS!

”her and Dr Schwarz will just have to….”

Didn’t anyone on the show get past third grad?!?!?!  No scriptwriter, director, editor or cast member hear the mistake, or even care?

  10. I hope the team from last night did find Susan Powell (I didn’t see the ending), not just for her family but because it is even more heartbreaking if a second, still unknown person was left behind.

You know what sticks with me after watching this? Chicken casserole. Haven’t made it in a long time. Now I can’t wait to make some. In my vintage Corning Ware baking dish.

    Just remember your potholders!

By episode 5, I sarcastically predicted the killer.  Really surprised to be right.

  12. I’m not sure he did it, only because:

    1) I’ve seen a pipe hit a car in a similar matter (but the car was parked and empty at the time, and the pipe was not as long as the one in this case).  No one was injured at the time, although a sore throat developed later, after repeated phone calls with insurers.

    2) If he had planned it, he’d have a better story.  The weakness of his explanations is bizarre, but is that damning?

But they're not powerful ghosts like Captain Gregg in THE GHOST AND MRS MUIR. He could appear and disappear at will, show himself to anyone he pleased, move objects, open and close doors. Heck, his moods even controlled or influenced the local weather. These ghosts are impotent compared to him. Although, the one thing I don't remember seeing is whether he ever traveled any distance from his property.

In the movie, Captain Gregg went to London with Mrs Muir.  It would be nice if the ghosts could travel, if only for Trevor to discover a total lack of Blockbusters and Circuit City stores among modern retailers.

But, to me, this episode reflected the smaller gatherings demanded by COVID protocols.  No bridesmaids, no guests, no extra staff to serve at the wedding?  The Hollywood extras that would have been in the background 3 years ago are missed.

    Add me to the list.

Good episode except for the fact that Georgie is a minor.  What is the age for sex in Texas? Because she could have potentially be hauled in for statutory rape.

That was my first thought too!

If the ages were switched around, no one would be amused by the statutory rape.  This scenario is disturbing.

  15. With all the Kreese flashbacks, I was expecting him to be revealed to be Johnny’s father.  Was really surprised the concealed news was her death in a car accident and not a baby.

So, how will they write Murray off?

With the rest of the show?

The plots are recycled, and the actors seem tired.  Odd that it appears the least-objectionable on-screen character is, allegedly, the opposite off-screen.

I couldn't agree more. I just watched an interview with Kim K after she was robbed of her jewelry in Paris and I was thinking how peaceful it is, knowing that no one will be breaking into my house anytime soon to grab my Walmart-quality  clothing, or my sad little collection of jewelry. Yet I'll bet I'm ten times happier on a typical day than they all are on their multimillion dollar bespoke yachts.

I get what you’re saying, but wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to test that theory firsthand.

Was weighing going to the theater to see the movie, but the episode persuaded me to read the book instead.

Did anyone else find the cages in the courtroom eerie?
