Don't worry, Eli, is not worth remembering.

Search for the clip of Eli’s reaction to his brother scoring a touchdown in whatever Super Bowl.  That is worth remembering, and I don’t follow sports - just sibling rivalries.

I was sad for Dan that he couldn’t get over his self-esteem issues to be happy with Christine. At least he did end up happy eventually with Sarah and hopefully Christine had a happy life as well. It’s strange to think of her developing feelings for Dan because I always saw Christine and Harry as the endgame.

Ever watch 30 Rock?  You and those writers have something in common.

Thanks for posting this.  I hadn’t read it before.  There’s an awkwardness to the writing compared to his previous works.  Maybe the whole Swan fallout distracted some people from talking about the lack of quality in this piece.  It reads like bad pulp fiction.  Capote wrote some impactful and beautiful prose; this is not good.

Yeah, totally. Did you see him in that Funny Woman show on PBS just a little while ago? I didn't even recognize him.

I recently slogged through the snoozefest that was Napoleon.  Everett was the best thing about the movie, nearly enough to not make me loathe it.  It was a pleasant surprise, since I’ve only seen him in comic roles.

Because it is a comedy show and not real life.  Funny is better than realism in any sitcom for me.

They put up subtitles that said 10 days later.

    Thanks - I missed that.
10 days in….what year are we in now?  Around 1996, it would take 2 weeks to get a letter to the UK.  Is everything more efficient in Germany?

  6. Maybe it’s my own experience of in-laws, but I can see reasonable doubt in the case against Kouri Richins.  If the glass the allegedly-fentanyl-laced drink was served in didn’t test positive for the drug, maybe it did come from something he took.  And when he spent 4-5 months on hunting trips, were any of the kids with him?  This is my own perspective, but I wouldn’t gush about how good a father any man was if he spends 1/3 of the year away from his kids for recreational purposes.  Men who are deployed/assigned are exceptions; hunting antelope on the tundra are not the same.

There are Betsy Faria vibes here.

  7. I watched Young Sheldon and noticed the absence in a photo during the commercial break.  After waiting months to find out, I could have waited another 8 minutes.

First of all, Godejohn was not a boy when he killed Gypsy's mother. He was a 26 yr old man. And a sick MOFO who had fantasies of murdering someone. He didn't need to be manipulated, he was doing exactly what he wanted to do.

While this site was down I watched the 6 part series, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. It was worth the watch. There were interviews with many people other than Gypsy, including her maternal grandfather, uncle, cousin, and two of her doctors. It was quite eye opening.

Gypsy claimed that her grandfather molested her from the age of 9. Interesting, as in one of his interviews, the interviewer asked him about Gypsy claiming abuse. The interviewer did not say what form of abuse, but the grandfather went right to sexual, and claimed that Gypsy tried to seduce him from the age of 4. Another MOFO right there.

It was amazing how many people turned a blind eye, including the two doctors. They had suspicions, but did not pursue. And why did Gypsy only have a grade 2 education? No one checked to see if she was getting an education, and she obviously was not, even home schooling.

While I don't necessarily believe everything that Gypsy claimed, she was also groomed from a young age to lie, and she was taught by a master manipulator. I am glad that she is out, and hope she is able to make a life.

I did find it funny when the 20/20 interviewer questioned her on putting her life out there for everyone, when they are exploiting her as much as she is exploiting herself. The media is as much to blame for Gypsy being everywhere, as Gypsy is. In any case, I have no problem with Gypsy being out, and Godejohn being in prison. I don't think Gypsy is a threat to anyone, but I do think her ex could be.

And yet Godejohn lived 26 years without killing anyone, whatever he might have wanted to do.  The twisted duo of Godejohn and Gypsy didn’t exist for 26 days without a murder.  Folie a deux is the driver of this case.  Strange how she was able to lead a murder conspiracy, but not to go to a police station or different hospital or to her father before anyone died.  She could find her own hitman, but nothing less extreme?

  9. This episode felt rushed and slipshod.  With all extra work we were told Scotland Yard faced this year, would it go out the way to put a vigilante in prison when he didn’t kill a known murderer?  Nash seems a stronger match for Eliza.  But he’s conveniently taken out so that we can stick with the more fairy-tale like Duke as a match.  Shoehorn in the romance, since that’s the title of the series.  I’ll still watch the series (but only because there’s not much else I want to see), but the show has treated Nash as a pathetic deus ex machina.

Another great Truman Capote movie is 2006's "Infamous." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infamous_(2006_film)

It has a lot of heavy hitters in the supporting roles like Sigourney Weaver as Babe, Sandra Bullock as Harper Lee, etc. Toby Jones loses himself in this role in a way PSH didn't in "Capote."

I think this does a better job of telling the story than Hoffman’s version.  That movie highlights Hoffman’s performance; everything else is secondary.  Infamous does a better job of putting the whole story into the larger context.

I actually did not miss William this episode.  I really liked seeing Eliza and Nash interact, argue, bicker, deduce, deduct, agree, agree to disagree and so on.  I don't want Nash to become a romantic rival for William, though.  For a while, I thought I did, but now I just want them to be almost-equals in the business.

I like Nash as a potential interest for Eliza.  Maybe he’ll inherit a dukedom/duchy (not sure which word is correct) so that the title won’t have to change.

  12. The Markel case has been covered several times over the years by many shows.  Does anyone else wonder if Dateline was the only tv show mentioned in the phone calls?

Was that god-awful tacky-ass ring really on display as well? Because there is no way in hell Diana would have ever worn that thing--yet another reason why I don't believe for a second they were some epic love story and were engaged when they died. I am 100% in the "summer fling to make Hasnat Khan jealous" camp.

I don’t remember the ring, just statues of the 2 of them, surrounded by doves.  Even the photographs were more Diana than Dodi, as I recall.
