  1. Just watched last night's show and enjoyed it so much. The scenery is almost always wonderful, but it was just awesome this time. That mountaintop view military had was incredible and it was nice to see that they appreciated it as well. It was the encounter that Cluck and Tasha (my favorite team now that Sweeny is gone) had with the whales that really got my attention. Wow!! I think I would have had a heart attack!!! What a thrill that must have been but really, really scary too. I know that there is a camera crew following all of them around but really, with the possibility of a whale rising below you...yikes!!! Kinda dangerous, but that's a memory they'll be sharing with their grandkids someday. I enjoy this show in part because it's set in Alaska, and also because these folks have real skills. From what I've read in older posts the teams are in part the same people over and over...don't know that I would be interested in that if the show is around for another season. Right now though I'm pulling for Lower 48. :-)
  2. What a lovely finale! Although I was cheering for Richard, I'm happy for Nancy, and would have been equally happy for Luis as well. I think perhaps nerves got the best of Richard and perhaps Luis too, which is completely understandable, especially in the technical test where time was such a factor. I loved the families gathered outside the tent having a picnic and cheering for their loved ones...that was delightful, and the weather was sunny after all the rainy days we've seen. I was lucky with the two commentators in my area for the fundraiser. One of them was a professional chef and I missed hearing the profession of the other but he was very pleasant. Both of them were familiar with the show and clearly enjoyed it. I figure if it weren't for PBS's fundraising they'd have to do commercials (endless repetitions of men's erectile dysfunction, right? lol), and I enjoy some of their programming so much I always make a yearly donation, though I can't afford as much as I'd like. The icing on the cake was the 'since the show was taped' bit at the end of the show. I don't think I've ever seen that on a competition show before and it was fun. Hoping this show will be back again!!
  3. I totally enjoyed this episode, as I have the others I have seen. Unfortunately I missed the first couple of episodes and stumbled across this series by accident (and to my delight!!!) I really do love it. The bakers have been so nice and so friendly and talented, I consider this to be, just as there is 'comfort food', then this is a 'comfort show'. And the charming setting is lovely as well. The two show hostesses are funny in a quirky sort of way, a wee bit annoying at times, but that might just be the British humor and it's not enough to be a problem. And baklava....oh yummy!!! Baklava and tiramisu are two of my favorite guilty pleasures. I was amazed to watch the bakers make the phyllo dough. I can only imagine the disaster I could create trying to do that. It reminded me of the week they made the 'hot water dough'....it was like watching a group of magicians working their magic. The best I can do is a decent chocolate chip cookie. I'd be happy with any of the four winning, but I'm thinking it will be Richard. I like all of them though and was sorry to see Chetna go because she is a wizard with creating interesting combinations of flavors. She seemed like a lot of fun. I hope this show comes back for more seasons and will be watching for it. Most American cooking competitions have too many folks bringing their tragic backstories or the polar opposite of the struting, attitude-dripping 'I was born to win this' types. They could learn something from this show!
  4. Hello all! First time poster, long time lurker here. I loved the show about the family who went to Zambia so the husband could follow his work. I was curious about Zambia and so did a wee bit of research which led me to the blog the young wife has written. There was another reason they went to Zambia which she addressed in her blog, and it is a very beautiful and touching story. They are a lovely family who truly touched my heart. If you decide to read more about them I am including a link to her blog, just make sure to read through all the entries (it won't take long) to learn the outcome of their stay there. http://lifewithkinzenbaws.blogspot.com/2014/03/house-hunters-internationalwhat.html
