I wonder why he didn't get the really done up makeup and fake teeth like Charlie and Deimos did though?

It was probably budgetary.  Either they couldn’t afford the fake teeth for all of them, or they couldn’t afford 3 make-up artists.

It sounded like Nick Fallon was making MarDevil’s pitchfork get bigger!  Who knew!?!

So The UnDead can kill Day Players?  Ava isn’t going to be accused of crime she didn’t actually commit?

This whole Plot Point Dart Board manner of writing storylines has really gone of the rails.

  2. I really like the Allie-Johnnie dynamic, especially because they’re twins with different fathers who dislike each other.  That can’t have been easy for a child’s mind to comprehend.

Anna as Kristin?  Give me an f-ing break!  Eileen Davidson was one of the main reasons I got addicted to the Possession Storyline.

I loved Tony saying that people don’t want to watch a couple sipping champagne and talking about how much they love each other, because that’s exactly how I feel.  And while I don’t agree with Anna, I liked that she got to voice how she sees things differently.

Oh, goodie!  Ciara is pregnant!  Now They can do Rosemary’s Baby followed by Damien: The Omen.  That should take us to to end of the 2 year renewal for The Show.

ZombieCharlie?  Ok, I’d love to see Mike Manning again but I’m also aware of how bad this WritingTeam can be.  I guess Ron C found a new way to bring someone Back-From-The-Dead that didn’t involve Dr Rolf.

Paulina has got to work on her poker face. The entire time Lani was going on about Abe being a great father, she looked like she needed to use the facilities.

Jackee Harry relies on that I-Just-Smelled-A-Fart Face way too often.

MarDevil living its best life in that sexy Devil costume.  Those scenes with Belle were hilarious!

The weird thing was almost all of those Ouija scenes gave me goosebumps, even though I’m highly skeptical of those boards revealing any truths.

I’m very interested to see how Chanel reacts to the big Lani reveal.

Me, too.  I hope they give the actress something of substance to work with.  She’s talented, and I feel bad that most of her scenes consist of talking about baked goods or flirting with Johnnie.

  4. I liked James Scott, and I was disappointed when he left.  But, he didn’t play the character long enough, or so brilliantly, that I’d think his portrayal defined the character.  Not to mention that EJ has basically been to Hell and Back since JS left, so it’s not unfathomable that his personality would be impacted.

Well, that was close.  I was worried EJ’s rage would take over, he’d kick Nicole out and she’d go crying to Rafe.  I really liked that Nicole could do something underhanded, and EJ could understand, from experience, why that would happen.

How the hell did Steve find Kristen so quickly?  That almost never happens.

This whole thing with bargaining Kristen’s capture to get four other characters out of jail is as stupid as Gabi using her bone marrow, or whatever it was, to negotiate her way out of jail.

  5. Really?  No one has ever told Maggie she looks like Bonnie Raitt?  That’s almost more of a stretch than Dr Rolf’s Magical Back From The Dead Serum.

Take me out back and shoot me with Nicole mooning over her forbidden love for Rafe.  Gawd, I hate it.

Dan Feuerriegel is my new favorite.  I loved how he balanced being understandably irritated at Kristin’s stupidity with that brotherly soft spot he has for her.  I wouldn’t mind if we never see Stacy Haiduk’s incarnation of Kristin again but I did enjoy their scenes today.

I like how Ava tried to dip her toe back in the Mob Pool, and now she’s kinda ended up soaking wet.  Curious to see if all of this is going to snowball out of control for her.

  6. That was kinda mean.  I loved Lexie and thought I had looked away when they showed her face but it sounds like it was just a cheap stunt.  And by cheap I mean they didn’t have to pay Renee Jones.  The flashbacks were the best part of another pointless OMG-This-Character-Is-Dying Plot.

I thought all of the John and MarDevil scenes were poorly written (no explanation for Doug’s possession), not well acted, and the editing for MarDevil’s jumps was sloppy.  Total disappointment for me.

EnchantingMonkey, thanks for pointing that out!  I have to go back and rewatch because I missed it.

She screeched “that snakepit” when she was talking about Bayview.  There’s at least one script writer who likes to make film and literary references, so I’m mostly assuming that’s what was happening.  It’s not a frequently used term when referring to a mental hospital.  In case you’re wondering, my favorite de Havilland film is The Heiress.

Color me surprised that John figured it out so quickly.  They could have played him seeing clues to possession but not wanting it to be true for a little longer.  It’s not like you’d want to accept that your wife is possessed by the Devil.  Seems worse than an extra-marital affair, which many turn a blind eye to.

John definitely isn’t a priest anymore, and there aren’t any priests currently on the scene, so I’m curious where They might be going with the Devil’s return.

I loved it when MarDevil told Julie she wouldn’t be any help at the hospital, because, honestly...

  8. I liked the reference to The Snakepit when Julie was talking about Bayview.  It’s not my favorite Olivia de Havilland film but it’s a good one.

Paulina got off easy.  In the past, MarDevil would have emotionally blackmailed her to do her bidding at some point in the future.  She basically let Paulina chose when Abe and Lani find out.

The editing for the Jake/Carmine gun scene was so clunky, and Abe looked like he just noticed ketchup on his jacket more than that he just got shot in the chest.  I thought maybe he was going to wipe some of the blood off and taste it.  No, that’s just Tabasco.

  9. The casting for Johnny’s film is so wonky.  The only one I can kind of see is Abigail as Marlena.  I liked Allie saying she’s spent all of her life trying not to be her mother but she doesn’t work for me at all as Sami.  And I can’t envision EJ or Chanel as John Black or Celeste.  And what about Kristin and Caroline?  They were major players in the storyline.

It’s always fun to have Kate interacting with her sons.  I wish the Show would do it more often, because they have an endearing comical dynamic.

The MarDevil got an upgrade.  It can change its eyes without having to worry about those pesky colored contacts.  I wonder if the holy water still burns its skin.  It used to really hate the holy water.

I loved the way Deidre Hall would play her Devil Snark scenes, and it looks like she still has the touch.

  10. Most of those flashback scenes were from the early parts and the end of the Previous Possession.  At least they had John discovering that Marlena was The Desecrator in there.  That was a BIG moment.

With the mention of Kristin in this episode, I’m crossing my fingers and toes that somehow they’ve convinced Eileen Davidson to come back as Kristin.  I know she was in the Beyond Salem special.

For a minute there I couldn’t figure out why Trask would care about prosecuting Kristin but then I remembered that Kristin “killed” Trask’s kid.  This newer actress doesn’t really communicate history with any of these characters.

Throwing Bonnie and Gwen in a jail cell together sounds good on paper but I couldn’t watch all of their scenes because Bonnie is so damn annoying.

I don't care about half the characters on this show, including Phillip, but I do wonder if TPTB see Phillip as a younger Victor: Always loving women who, for whatever reason, cannot love him like he loves them and are not available, be it - in Victor's case - because of marriages to others (Shawn, Ernesto) or - regarding Phillip - just emotionally unavailable, a la Chloe.

Let's face it: Victor didn't find a lasting relationship until Maggie, in his old age. Maybe the show sees Phillip as being like his father.

    Just a theory.

Like father, like son. Your theory makes a lot of sense.  I’m going to keep it in mind while watching these silly Philip/Chloe/Brady scenes and, maybe, I’ll enjoy them a little more.  I like it when a character is stuck in a pattern of behavior that they can hardly overcome.

The scene of John and Marlena discussing her dream was well acted, and I thought it was refreshing that it happened so early in the storyline.  I expected The Writers to pretend that John and Marlena don’t have the kind of relationship where they would feel safe talking about such things.

The vacillation between emotionally resonant scenes and total ridiculousness happened during the Previous Possession, too.

The EJ/Nicole kiss was fun.  I still hate that Rafe is part of this, and supposedly Nicole’s first choice.  At least I have the joy of watching EJ push Rafe’s buttons.

I loved that Johnnie’s plan to charm his way into having creative control over his movie was sabotaged by a power hungry producer/financier.  I imagine that’s how it happens in Hollywood more often than not, and even wonder if it was The Writer’s way of venting their frustrations through their characters.  Perhaps I’m giving them too much credit.

And, is this what is was like back then? Marlena mostly just talking to herself while the devil was out of her body?

No.  James E. Reilly had a more specific manner of plotting out Marlena’s possession.  There were a few times when Marlena interacted with the Demon but it wasn’t like they’re doing with the electronic devices.

    Why was she levitating?

During the Previous Possession, Marlena levitating was indicative of the Demon taking over her body.  These Writers aren’t really laying out what rules they’re playing by now...if they even know themselves.

Surely the whole possessed baby thing doesn't have to be so convoluted.

I liked how the Demon would prey on different characters fears and insecurities, often with some convoluted plan in mind that was usually thwarted.  It was one of the more amusing parts of the storyline.

This episode felt mostly pointless.  I suppose there was some plot advancement with Marlena levitating, and Chad and Abigail having some sexy time but it seemed like there was so much filler along the way.

I fast forwarded through the Ben/Ciara scenes of course. I was eating so!

Their love-making was so amazing that Ciara was convinced they were the rare occurrence of making a baby right after quitting her birth control.  It was so romantic.  Mmmhmm.

If you’re an actress, you want Celeste’s role in that film, regardless.  It’s definitely the better role.  If you own a new bakery, I don’t know how the hell you’d have the time to be filming a movie.

EJ wanting to be John Black was hilarious.  They’re almost making me want to see scenes from this film to see what the younger actors will do with their characters from the Original Possession storyline, even though I’m sure they’ll mostly be awful.

I’m starting to chuckle at The Demon being inside Marlena’s devices, because, honestly, we all get pissed off (anthropomorphize) at our modern advances in technology.

  14. As soon as Deacon showed up, I knew he would be crossing paths with Sheila. I just didn’t think it would be so quickly. I loved Sheila berating Deacon with “You’re going to let the Forresters win!?!?!”,  because when I went back and watched all of those Sheila scenes, the one thing that stood out was how Sheila sees life as a game and other people are only obstacles to Her finish line.

The Writers are actually cruel to give Brooke and Ridge no better storyline than to be annoying, judgmental busybodies.  There’s not even a hint of inner conflict or ambiguity in any of their dialogue in the scenes I can stand to sit through.

  15. A Ben and Ciara Spawn?  At least the Devil has a wicked sense of humor.  Muahahahahaha!

The Brady/Chloe/Philip thing feels so pointless, because both guys are behaving like asses and Chloe isn’t much of a prize herself.  The only reason I watch any of their scenes is because I kinda like Brady and Chloe as friends, and sometimes it’s amusing to watch Philip rant like a lunatic.  Only sometimes, though.

I barely give a damn about Jake and Gabi but I thought Brandon Barash did a good job of tearing up when Jake was relating his story to Gabi.

It’s pretty bad when a Friday episode of Bold&Beautiful is better than DAYS.  That show is almost always garbage.

No explanation, yet, as for the reason Chanel contradicted her grandmother,

I read that bit of dialogue as Olivia confusing Tamara’s favorite pie for Paulina’s because Tamara is the favored child.  I thought there were hints of that when Olivia was visiting Paulina in Salem.  She basically came to Salem to bully Paulina into maintaining the status quo of Tamara being Lani’s mother.

Gawd, They went back to the silly Rupaul Demon voice.  Hate it.  While I felt bad for Doug, I liked how The MarDevil started to perpetrate it’s treachery by playing with people’s emotions.  That was the best aspect of the Original Possession.

EJ being a total ass by making disparaging comments about Rafe on his “first” date with Nicole.  So amateurish.  I guess it’s been awhile since he’s been in the dating scene.

    Kate’s appearance seemed random.

I thought so, too, and even more so because she seemed to be concerned for someone other than herself.  Like, who is this person?  It makes me think They are trying to “humanize” her so she can be a potential romantic partner for Roman.

I liked where the EJ/Roman confrontation ended up with EJ apologizing.  It’s not going to be long before EJ is back to his Rage-O-Holic ways but it was nice that he had a moment of sobriety.

The Demon’s voice on the tape recorder was creepier than the Rupaul voice it used the other day.  Hope They keep it that way, as it gave me goosebumps.

Like he started out fine, as both Stefan and Jake actually, but then it just went off the rails. For me, I think the only way they could try to make Jake work now is to get him away from Gabi.

Jake was fun after the breakup with Gwen.  I loved those scenes when they would snark at each other at the DiMera Mansion.  I liked his friendship with Abigail, too.  The problem now is that he basically has no identity outside of Gabi, and they’re mostly annoying.

Gwen and Xander were hilarious with all of Gwen’s terrible ideas about how to get Xander out of jail.  I appreciate that Gwen accepts Xander, flaws and all, whereas I kinda hated how Sarah was always trying to neuter him.

Ava playing hardball.  Yes, please!  But honestly, “Gabi Chic” does have a nice ring to it, while “Ava Chic” sounds like a cheap knockoff....or lazy writing, lol.  Intrigued to see what kind of chaos will ensue with Ava sticking her toe back into the Mob Cesspool.

If they want to bring in a recast, why do they decide to do a complete 180 degrees on his character?  I really detest the way they're writing EJ.

Why would nuEJ be so bound by James Scott’s version?  EJ was brought back from the dead, which means he lost his memory, then disfigured in the fire.  We’ve been told several times throughout the years how difficult his rehabilitation was.  For all of the flaws of this Show, I don’t see why EJ couldn’t be more of an asshole with less of the charm.

Also, someone “rewriting” history isn’t all that unusual.  I chuckled when EJ referred to Nicole as his favorite ex-wife, as it’s mostly because he’s so pissed at Sami right now.  He definitely wouldn’t be saying that if things were good with Sami.

Really enjoyed the EJ/Nicole scenes.  I love it when two people can banter like that.

Brady calling out Jake was hilarious.  Jake just sucks so badly.  I feel bad for Brandon Barash, because he was so good on GH and I actually liked him as Stefan.

Dear Ava, please go back to twirling your mustache and help Philip to take down Gabi and Jake.  Amen.

  20. During The Original Possession, Marlena was able to enter St Luke’s and commit some of her crimes as The Desecrator.  Later, she was able to enter St Luke’s again during a battle in which she had begun to triumph over the Demon.  This was all before her eyes had turned yellow, though.

Also, The Demon wasn’t able to change Marlena’s eyes at will.  It had to hide them until Kristin figured it out, and then it revealed itself. The Demon must be so relieved that These Writers are too lazy to give it any of those silly rules it had to abide by previously.

    5 hours ago, DisneyBoy said:

Wasn't it just "a demon" back in the day...and not THE devil? Now they keep saying The Devil....retcon?

It was referred to as The Demon most of the time but Father Francis speculates that it’s Satan, and they do call it Satan or the Devil occasionally.

I can't remember if the devil killed anyone during the last possession...did he?

No but it attempts to so many times. Father Francis, John, Kristin, the Traveling Experts of the Scrolls, Shaun Brady with the bee attack.  It also tried to get John to kill Stefano in hopes of damning John’s soul.  It’s actually kind of funny how it fails so miserably at killing people.

Why does Marlena’s demon voice sound like RuPaul?

Heaven help us!  It wasn’t even frightening.

“The role of Father Francis will now be played by Doug Williams.”  Father Francis and Celeste were the only ones to know of Marlena’s possession in the early days, and Father Francis couldn’t speak because The Demon had given him a stroke.   Doug will probably be grunting, sputtering and pointing for weeks.

I’m assuming Possession 2.0 was in the works when they decided to have Johnnie come to town and make a movie but it feels a little All-of-the-Sudden with Marlena quickly being possessed for basically no reason, and multiple scenes with other characters talking about the previous Possession.  Not loving it.

  22. Curious to see what might happen if Philip and Ava team up.  I’m so rooting for Gabi and Jake to fail miserably.  Maybe this will motivate Ava to return to her dastardly ways.  NiceAva is so boring.  And honestly, is Tripp even worth being boring?

Old dog, no new tricks.  It was nice to see you Misogynistic Victor.  He did make me laugh, though, and it was good to see that John Aniston is healthy enough to do the Show.  I don’t give a damn who Chloe ends up with but I liked that she walked in to hear Victor conspiring against her.

I kinda hate that Abigail still believes she played some part in Gwen’s miscarriage but it was so good to watch two actresses show up and deliver some emotionally compelling scenes.  Kudos to both Emily O’Brien and Marci Miller.

  23. The look on Chanel’s face after Johnnie told her his grandmother was possessed actually made me LOL.

Enjoyed the DHs.  In the early days of the previous possession, Marlena was often in a stilted, zombie-like state when she’d make her way to the surface, and I thought Deidre Hall did a good job of revisiting that during her scenes today.  And, I thought Drake Hogestyn did a good job of conveying the torment he went through before and the fear of another Dance with The Devil.

I got goosebumps up and down my arms when Doug told Julie the Demon left him and went into her (Marlena), so THANK YOU to all who worked together to make me feel something unexpected.

The Doug and Marlena scenes weren't spooky enough.

Agreed.  I don’t know if they used Deidre Hall’s voice, or a voice actor, for the demon’s voice in the 90s but it was really creepy.  Today...not so much.  And DH just didn’t sell any of today’s scenes like she did during the original storyline.

I did like Abe and John reminiscing, and I was glad they mentioned Kristin pushing the idea that Marlena was dealing with something supernatural.  Eileen Davidson sold the hell out of her scenes, and she was saddled with so much repetitive and idiotic dialogue.  I think Abe was the Police Commissioner back then, and John, Bo and Abe had to work together to keep Marlena out of jail, as the District Attorney was determined to arrest her for being The Desecrator.

Are they even going to bother to explain how The Demon found it’s way into Doug?  There was a reason Marlena was possessed in the 90s, and it was funny because it was fueled by Stefano trying to make her fall in love with him, then The Demon used Stefano’s feeling to manipulate him.

Wait, did Sami’s kidnapper decide to allow her to answer her phone?
