She didn't bother me too much either.  Yeah, she had her faults, but it was refreshing to see someone excited about nearly everything she saw and not demanding everything to be the newest and brightest.  Yeah, she changed things, but it didn't seem like the "everything must be updated" stance a bunch of these HHs have.

I agree.  I will take Rainbow Bee Girl over any random HHer who whines about wanting the same boring things everyone else wants.  That's just me.

Speaking of Rainbow Bee Girl, is her condition real?  She kept saying she saw "99 million more colors than everyone else", and that seemed like an odd number to throw out there.  I know nothing about it, so can anyone enlighten me?

  2. I just saw Buying Before Baby In Pennsylvania.  This was the young couple who were expecting a baby; she was 24, and he was 22.  They both had very good jobs for their ages, and acted more like 35 year olds.  I kind of liked them.  The wife was a bit more open-minded than the average HHer, and even if she saw things she didn't like, she talked about possibilities, and what she liked about every house.  They ended up going with House #1, which was a...traditional?  Style?

Forgive me, I don't know styles very well, lol.

It seems that the popularity of granite has given way to quartz countertops. SS appliances are still in demand, as are hardwood floors. However, a newly popular flooring option is Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) that mimics the look of hardwood and is water and scratch resistant. I actually have that type of tile in my kitchen, but mine looks like stone, not wood. The house next door to me was just  flipped and remodeled with LVT flooring in a greyish wood looking finish that I think looks cheap. And, yes, it's much less expensive than real wood and engineered wood flooring so flippers use it a lot.

Thanks.  Do they still like the dark, wood kitchen cabinets, or are people all about white kitchen cabinets, now?

Actually, I'm looking for one episode in particular, so maybe someone can help me out.  It had a young, quirky couple from New Orleans that wanted a craftsman fixer-upper, and the wife/girlfriend kept calling chandeliers "chandies".  Does anyone know what I'm talking about?  This episode is haunting my dreams.

  4. Well...I haven't watched HH for a few years, but I recently got hooked on it again, and I purchased a couple of older seasons on YouTube.  Since I haven't seen it in a while, I have a question: is the Holy Trinity still desired by most HHers, or has it changed?  Have the granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and hardwood floors gone gentle into that good night, or are they still somewhat trendy?

I know nothing of house trends, so someone needs to enlighten me.

Part of this is the very specific questions asked to Johnny's former girlfriends and fiancées.  Winona, Kate, and Vanessa were asked "did he hit you?" without any elaboration, so their answers were no.  As far as I know, none of them were asked follow-up questions that would show a pattern of other abusive behaviors--trashing hotel rooms, slamming doors, verbal tirades, etc.  . It's not lost on me that the collective we require the women who dated Johnny to talk about stuff like this.  Winona, Kate, and Vanessa should be able to keep their private lives private and not be interrogated about the behaviors of their ex.  Many people took their nos as absolution for Johnny instead of realizing none of those women are Amber, and it is very possible that Johnny's behavior escalated as his drinking became worse.  There's also the possibility that they were able to diffuse Johnny in ways that Amber was never equipped to.  Not that it makes it Amber's job to diffuse a drunk Johnny in the first place, nor is it her fault that she was unable to.  The only person responsible for Johnny Depp is Johnny Depp.

His whole "wino forever" ethos has an appeal to a lot of people in the same way Woody Allen's waving across the park to Mia and her children held sway in the early 90s.  It's being an adult without having to do any of the hard work.  And, it's far easier to blame Amber than to think about what decades of heavy drinking and drug use will do to a person.

Very true.  That first point you made reminds me of the podcast You're Wrong About, where Sarah Marshall talks about the questions O.J. Simpson's partners were asked.  It was always, "Did O.J. hit you?", never "Did O.J. ever scare you?".  Also interesting to note that Nicole Brown Simpson was criticized for hitting O.J. back on occasion.  She wasn't the "perfect" victim, either.

I've also been thinking about Fight, Flight, Freeze, or Fawn.  It's possible that Johnny's former partners had very different reactions to his drunken rages than Amber Heard, who could very well have a Fight response.  We don't know, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

Sigh, thanks for giving me another reason not to bother with watching the Oscars, Amy.

I never cared much for her, but I have this automatic reaction to defend people of certain groups, plus-size women being one of them. So I tend to defend some dumb things she (or Rebel Wilson) says, but I have to give myself a resolution to try to move on from that logic and just consider the comment itself, regardless of who says it. Wish me luck, guys!

Is Amy Schumer plus-sized?  She looks pretty "average" sized to me, for lack of a better word.

Thanks to Judd Apatow's bad  take (and blatantly racist dog whistle) where he basically calls Will a raging, violent beast whose slap was so powerful it practically killed Chris,  people are very much talking about Franco.  More specifically why he stood by and let Franco throw Busy Phillips to the ground on the set of Freaks and Geeks and to this day has never condemned him if he is so concerned about violence.

TBH, the biggest laughs I am getting about this whole thing are people clowning Apatow's now deleted tweet.

    What, now?

I have never heard this story.  I knew James Franco was an asshole, but I never heard about him physically assaulting Busy Phillips, and I used to watch Freaks and Geeks religiously.

Going to google some stuff, now...

  8. I feel bad for Will and Chris.

I feel bad for Chris because it's humiliating to get hit, especially in front of other people (let alone an audience of millions).  I have personal experience with that, and it sucks.  I don't know how Chris feels, but when it happened to me, I wanted to run and hide because the shame was so intense.   I can't say much else about it except that it's a terrible feeling, and my sympathy is with him, even if he did say something shitty (or at least something the Smiths considered shitty).

I also feel bad for Will, because I think he snapped and acted without thinking, and I think he's had to keep up this charming, nice guy persona for the past 30 years, and that has to wear on a person.  I know he's a famous millionaire, but he's also a complex human being like the rest of us, and he has sides we don't see.  Now one of the biggest moments of his career is tainted because of this one action, and I have no idea if that's because he's had things bubbling just under the surface, but if he does, I hope he can work it out in a healthy way and be happier.  So, yeah, he's responsible for what he did, but I don't know, people are complicated.  This fucked up thing happened, and I just hope everyone involved comes out of it okay.

I am really having a hard time wrapping my head around Will being more deserved of losing his Oscar because his actions took place on stage vs off. So because Roman Polanski didn't rape a child on stage, but behind closed doors where those types of actions usually take place for obvious reasons, then no action is necessary? I'm just trying to follow the logic here.

But if we follow that argument, where is the outcry for Adrien Brody to lose his Best Actor Oscar after he assaulted Halle Berry right there on stage?

Will was wrong in his actions but as far as him losing his Oscar, well, then he can get in line behind all the others, and add Adrien to that list (there are undoubtedly more).

Agree with this, 100%.  It doesn't matter to me at all that far, FAR worse crimes were not televised.  Let Will keep his Oscar.
