I'm sure my dad absolutely hated Dallas and St. Elsewhere and whatever other drama my mom watched on the regular in the 80s, but he loved my mom and kept his mouth shut for the 3 hours a week they were on. Jack Pearson could learn a few things from John Pirate.
Question is, did Jack see he wasn’t supposed to tape over it and did anyway or did he just not bother to look? His refusing to apologize and insulting her show was an asshole move regardless.
Not victim blaming, but Rebecca’s a novice at this VHS thing. My husband (not a Jack-style asshole) still could not be trusted not to grab the nearest tape and shove it in the VCR without noticing the “do not tape over” label and I didn’t like to knock out the tabs unless I knew I’d want to keep something forever. So I’d hide my tapes. Every once in a while I still find a VHS tape buried in the back of a closet or a drawer I haven’t cleaned out for years.

I didn’t notice any difference in colour or light between Canada and Gilead. Considering they are shot in the same cities in Southern Ontario, it would be surprising if there were. If there’s sun in a Gilead scene, that’s sun shining on a Canadian filming location.
I’ll grant you the dim lighting of Fred and Serena’sluxury hotelprison cells, but that’s clearly some weird production choice. No need to label the entire country as dim.-

You have more faith in the writers and their ability to tell a consistent story than do I. It made for a lovely poignant scene when Luke surprised Moira, but the fact that she was surprised shows “they” didn’t ask her permission before making the match. Doesn’t mean that Emily didn’t proactively take her name off the list, but to me, it’s just as likely that the writers forgot the matching system.

I wondered about that, too. Either the writers screwed up or perhaps Emily specifically asked that they not notify her wife. It’s probably the former, but I’ll believe in the latter.

While it is not my area of speciality, I know some basic Ontario family law. The focus would be less on parental rights than the best interests of the child, although paternity would at least give Fred the legal standing to try to seek custody. It’s obviously an usual, and unusually messy, situation since i) June, the undisputed mother, gave her child into Emily’s custody in order to escape an abusive home (and country) and ii) Holly/Nichole is herself a refugee. Because I’m a geek and take this show way too seriously, I asked a friend who practised Canadian refugee law about that last point. He says that a litigation guardian would be appointed for her to oversee her legal rights: that person may or may not be the person who rescued her (Emily) or the person with current defacto custody (Luke).
All of these children, in fact, would be in a similar legal situation, of course. They are not property to be given over to Moira and Emily to distribute, and virtually all of them (assuming none is a Canadian citizen otherwise) would eventually have to establish a legal right to remain in Canada. I can handwave the former, because watching bureaucrats do what Moira and Emily are doing would be boring, but Holly/Nichole is not the only one whose legal status in the country would be in question.

I would have thought that’s how Beth would be, and I’m disappointed the writers went in this direction instead.
Everyone’s different, of course, but I don’t think it’s unusual both to accept one’s child wholeheartedly and still to have to re-orient one’s thinking. As the episode title says, both things can be true. I can see Beth having some thought of helping her daughters get ready for a date, while giggling together about the discomfort of the young man waiting downstairs being politely grilled by Randall as to his suitability for his daughter. It’s a charming notion that probably doesn’t happen much anymore (assuming it ever did), but it might be a version of what she did or had wanted to do with her own parents. And she pictured her daughter walking down the aisle with a man like Beth’s own husband or father waiting for her. Being Beth, she’ll reorient quickly now that she’s realized, and the dream image in her head will be replaced by a new one. But I don’t think it’s bad or homophobic to have those thoughts. Just human.

Except it’s not the same. Our children’s sexuality is always hard to deal with, but even harder when it’s different from our own . Like it or not, we subconsciously expect our children to be like us, only better versions of us (due to our superior parenting). I have a lesbian friend who was bitterly disappointed that her son turned out straight. She then developed a dream (which she never shared with him but did with me), that, if he had to be straight, he would at least become interested in her own friend’s lovely daughter (mine). I, too, would have liked that, except dear daughter turned out to be a lesbian. And so we all adjust our expectations yet again and learn to accept that our children are their own people and we take our joy in what they are and not what we expected them to be. I can’t blame Beth for working through that and I think the show is dealing with the issue honestly.

Joel from Parenthood did promise her fertility treatments when he tried to get her to defect on their previous trip, so maybe he came through on that and that's how she gets pregnant?
And yes, if she goes back to Gilead pregnant, she would definitely get into trouble, not least because she and Fred were already on the higher-up Commanders' shit list. I don't see her going back voluntarily, only if the US makes a deal with Gilead to return the Waterfords in exchange for a group of handmaids or other high-profile prisoners.
Just finished my binge rewatch of the series (sigh: lockdown. What else is there to do?).
Fred and Serena were indeed held separately, by some authority whose jurisdiction is never clearly specified.
But they slept together on their super-cool road trip inadvertently into Canada. Presumably that is when His miracle was brought forth praise be.

Him getting to hear other similar experiences was an important thing for him to do. And he didn't interrupt or get judgey on anyone! This season has done wonders for Randall. Even if some of the things said in the support group were uncomfortable to hear, people can't help how they feel (although, lady who told her family that she wished she wasn't adopted, maybe that's a reason why half of them stopped talking to you?)

This, I think, was the problem with how they presented the diagnosis on the show. They described it only as a facial recognition problem. I, like you, thought,” well, just explain it to her then”. Reading these posts, I see it’s a real delusion that is not so easily conquered. But... I was disturbed by how Iggy didn’t try anything. I was horrified that the “therapy” involved telling the woman that her child was dead, and was further horrified at how she took it in stride. Sorry, folks, losing a child is the single most horrific thing that can ever happen to a parent (perhaps, especially, to a mother). She is not going to say that she’s sad but oh well, it’s all for the best since she got closure. Unless there was some explanation, perhaps rooted in her disease, about why she didn’t care, Iggy destroyed her life by telling her her son was dead. And we’re supposed to accept that she cares no more than if her car was stolen and trashed. Oh well, let’s move on and chat with this young stranger. No how. No way.

I was referring, not to the fact of the pregnancy, but to knowing or suspecting that it had happened. I don’t even know if chemo can interfere with cycles, but it might’ve given them an out.
I can hand-wave a pregnancy. I have a relative who swears up and down that she took the Pill exactly as directed, at exactly the same time every day as directed. Her daughter is lovely. 99.9% effective still is not 100%.

Does no woman on tv keep track of her period? The surprise pregnancy revealed by a doctor running a routine test looking for something else is getting really old. Maybe Maggie will later say something like “I’ve been so irregular since the last chemo, it didn’t dawn on me” but, c’mon.
i couldn’t help but think during the table-read scene that someone would notice Maggie wasn’t drinking. Especially when someone made the comment about no more drinks for Maggie. I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count the number of times I personally know of when a woman’s pregnancy was outed when she declined a drink or a cigarette. It happened to me:
Friend: if you want a smoke, go ahead, it won’t bother me.
Me: no thanks, don’t feel like one.
Friend: oh my God! When are you due?

I’m watching. Or, rather, watched. Was too shy to be the first one who posted.
Loved it. Which is not to say that I understood most of what went on. I wasn’t much of a fan of the spider baby or subsequent spider creatures: Maybe it was the CGI, which I found more laughable than scary. Once I learned how to tell Merche and Elena apart, I enjoyed watching their individual development , especially Merche. Is she good? Is she evil? That was fun.
Now that I know I’m not the only one who watched, would love to discuss. What’s the spoiler policy for a single-thread show? I don’t want to comment on the end for people still watching.

Maybe it’s just because I like Kevin, but i didn’t see him as playing the “don’t you know who I am” card. At least, not in the sense of his pulling celebrity privilege. To me, it was more of his saying that his identity could easily be confirmed by checking the internet. Like those old “verified by Visa” commercials: does anyone know this guy.

Ha! I’m with you. When I gave birth, the anesthetist had to try a couple of times to get the needle in the right place because of a slight curvature of my spine. My husband freaked and told him to stop. I, on the other hand, yelled at the doctor to keep going and at my husband to shut up. That blessed, blessed epidural!

The latter two were stripped of the HRH; Harry and Meghan agreed (probably in the sense of being voluntold, admittedly) not to use them. Subtle distinction but an important one, as much was made of it at the time as leaving the door open for Harry to return to his senses and to the Firm.

Yeah, but Longo’s stores tend not be located in low-rent areas. I thought it was an odd choice, myself, suggesting both high-end neighbourhood and means to do regular grocery shopping at a high-end grocery store. There are a lot of cheaper places to buy chips (even the drugstores, which are plentiful).
