Does anyone know of an effective, pet-safe ant killer to use indoors?

Boric acid powder.  It's a dessicant and dries them out to death.  My daughter manages the local animal emergency clinic and that's what she recommends.  She said a dog or cat would have to eat a large quantity of it before running into trouble.

I love Spike. And Marcel. They both have grown up, and are not the immature punks we first came to know.

Me too and agreed.  I mentioned elsewhere that I met Marcel over the winter.  He was a cutie.  Anyhow, he told me that he and Spike were going to start filming in the spring for a new show in which they travel around the country cooking in people's homes.  Unfortunately, I can't recall which channel and the TWoP forum where I wrote it down is gone.

  3. I thought Anton would be in it until the end or close to it so I was surprised to see him go.  Not disappointed, just surprised.  He was arrogant at an insufferable level.  Melanie isn't far behind.

I read an article some months back, can't recall where, that said, among other things, that the sous chefs often tamper with the ovens and do other things to trip up the chefs for the sake of drama.  If that's true, Anton may have been right about the oven.  In fact, Andi was suddenly so visible and so obnoxious that I'm inclined to think that the oven and her act were part of tonight's "plot."

There really isn't anyone to root for.  Rochelle and Scott seem nice enough but I can't see either of them in a leadership position.

No real cowboy dresses like that.

No, of course not.  I don't think he's presented himself as a real cowboy.  He's said he's a chef who works on a ranch and sometimes cooks from a chuckwagon.  I've just assumed it's a dude ranch and his costume is part of it.

Kent Rollins was in NYC yesterday, having dinner with Amanda.

Aw.  That's nice to know.  I liked Kent a lot when he did the BBQ show and I was very disappointed when he lost and then sad again when he came back and got chopped a second time.  I wonder why he was in NY.  It would be neat if FN is working up some kind of western cooking show with Kent and Lenny.  I'd watch that.

  6. So far Lenny is my favorite.  He does have a shtick but I think it's an "honest" shtick rather than something he came up with to be on TV.  He works on a ranch and sometimes cooks from a chuckwagon.  I'm guessing that his costume and persona are part of his job on the dude ranch and have become part of who he is.  I'm also inclined to think that he's genuinely a nice guy.

I might like the Cuban guy but his beard is too long for his face and looks creepily biblical IMO.  I disliked Loreal immediately because she reminds me of Sara from Top Chef whom I couldn't stand.  I also don't care for Kenny but I like pageant girl least of all.  She looks pretty until the camera closes in and you see all the makeup or they show her in profile which isn't attractive at all.

  7. I was surprised that they let Marti go instead of Chad.  She has always seemed like a nice person who can do what she says she can do.  Chad looks a lot better with his new hairstyle but there's something seedy about him and he's arrogant.  I didn't think much of his chicken demo either.  I suspect that the end game is to get Luca back into the competition.  I really wish they'd never started copying Last Chance Kitchen.

  8.

Is there a turkey recipe in there? :)

That made me laugh.  I would pay for a video of Luca trying to catch that turkey.  It was hilarious and oddly endearing.

  9.

Oh, you mean the one that wore the kerchief?  My husband called her "Rosie the Riveter"  Note that neither of us can remember her real name.

Her name was Sara.  I didn't like her so I sort of transferred that to Loreal the minute I saw her and heard her silly name.  I'm trying to be objective though and she does seem more likeable than Sara.

Justin Warner did not want the show he was promised. Mr. Smarty Pants I know more than anyone else thought he was too good to do a 30 minutes how to cook show. So they finally gave him the one hour show and let it do it anyway he wanted, and it was a huge flop.

Exactly.  I don't understand why FN keeps him around.  Surely, any contract he might have signed after his win would have expired by now.  Last season they gave him the job of writing commentaries after each episode of FNS.  He managed to make them all about him in one way or another.  This season he's doing the same so I read his first synopsis and it was like reading something a high school boy who fancies himself a hipster might write.  I can easily see why an ego like Justin's would not be a good fit with Alton who is also quite impressed with himself - but with far better reason.

Marc is such a joyless nonentity

Wow.  I don't get that at all.  He grew up in Europe, speaks several languages and has a fascinating resumé.  I love to watch him on Chopped After Hours.  He's hilarious.  He's also one of my favorite judges.

I don't see any similarities between Alex and Amanda either.  Love Amanda.  Tolerate Alex.

  12. I've always liked Geoffrey Zakarian but not tonight.  He was willing to spend all the money his charity would get if he won to protect himself.  I've never liked Andrea but she came across very well so I did a flip on both of them.  I've always liked Jet Tila too and I liked him even more watching him just be himself.  He has a good sense of humor and makes me smile.  And I love, love, love Simon Majumdar.  He's one of my favorite judges and personalities.  I hated to see him cut first.  Overall - best CK yet.

  13. I couldn't stand Sarah or Donna right off the bat so I was glad one of them got sent packing although I'd have liked to see the blonde go first.  She's beyond annoying even if she is "much more deeper" than pageant girls.  I'm reserving judgment on the rest of them.  Reuben seems nice enough but I hate his too long and too bushy beard.  Loreal reminds me, looks alone, of Sara who was on the last season of Top Chef.  I hope she has a better personality.

I understand guys aren't really into the whole spa thing but I found Jason's attitude towards the prize extremely ungracious.

I agree and I should have said as much in my original comment.  I did understand why he didn't like the prize but, yeah, he behaved very badly and childishly about it.  No class at all.

  15. I was hoping that GR would eliminate one from each team to make up for axing no one last week and hoping even more fervently that the two would be Sandra and Kashia.  Darn.  I will give Sandra credit for departing gracefully.  I almost liked her for a second there.

I was agreeing with Jason that the spa day was a crappy prize.  I'm female and I'd have hated every minute of it.  I totally understand why he didn't like it.

Out of the ten left, I like Rochelle. Period. Can't stand any of them men, and I loathe the rest of the women. I liked Joy until tonight, and she seems most capable, but putting Rochelle up to spare her buddy was wrong. And I think I like Keisha least of all of them.

I like Richard and Scott OK.  Otherwise, I totally agree.  I like Rochelle but I can't see her in an executive chef position.  Or any of the rest of them for that matter.  I think Ramsay's producers just drag people in off the street and, with Keisha, they hit the bottom of the barrel.  Someone who can't even speak her native language coherently isn't going to be able to run a restaurant kitchen.  Sandy is another one.  She looks, speaks and acts like she's a cook in a biker bar.  No way is Ramsay going to put her in charge of anything.  I thought I liked Anton when this whole thing started but he's turned out to be an arrogant jerk.  Ramsay ought to just bring back Jon who should have won last season and give him the job.

  17. Here are two stories from the local paper in Easton.  The first one was written before the show was aired and the second one after.  The comments fom local residents after the first article are quite interesting.

  18. I was happy with the finale.  I liked Robert and thought he earned the win.  He looked absolutely stunned and speechless.   I imagine Melissa was a close second.  She'll probably go on to do very well.  She's creative and talented and likeable.  Ben's final creature looked like a green turtle sticking it's head out of a cloth bag with a drawstring.  That gap between the creature and the shell was a big mistake.  Overall, I was impressed every week by how much the contestants could accomplish in a few days.  I hope there's a season two.  Loved Brian Henson.  Loved the show.

  19. My younger daughter lives in Easton.  I remember her telling me that there was a lot of excitement when Ramsay was in town and also a lot of traffic problems due to gawkers.  She said then that the producers were out and about actively looking for people willing to appear on camera to be diners at the reveal.  She wasn't involved at all so she didn't have any details.

I talked to her on Skype earlier today and she said she's pretty sure that Bella Luna has been closed for some time.

  20. I like EVERYBODY better than Robert Irvine.  Now Kerry VIncent is doing the same show with bakeries which Buddy Valastro over on TLC has already done.  Oh, and there was a bar rescue show that didn't make it also.  I almost always end up feeling that undeserving people were rewarded for bad behavior so I'm not too sure why I keep watching these shows with the exception of Irvine's.  I can't tolerate watching him at all.

Did anyone else think that Melissa's creature's face looked like the Grinch That Stole Christmas?

Yes!  That was the first thing that came to my mind.

I liked both of the top two creatures.  I like Melissa but I preferred the lily pad because I thought making a hidden creature from what was essentially a flat surface took more creativity plus the eye opening was a neat surprise.
