  1. I noticed that with musical theatre related questions. I felt that the Broadway category when I was a contestant was insultingly easy. That's the thing with Jeopardy- it never goes too deep or too obscure with a subject area. Most categories are designed for people with a broad base of general knowledge to get some of the questions, even if that is not their area of expertise. If there is a subject you know really, really well chances are good, you're going to run the category.
  2. I got FJ tonight. There was an episode of the Bachelor where there was a group date in the US Virgin Islands to watch the sunrise at the easternmost place in the US. I figured Guam was the other answer. I'm really embarrassed to admit that's how I got FJ. I got all of the baseball questions. When you grow up with a brother who eats, sleeps, and breathes baseball, you learn a thing or two. I like Christi. Her blog sounds fun.
  3. I was glad to see a good game. I'm extra convinced that Friday was just a really hard board. Ben was at the taping for the week I was on and he seemed like a nice guy. Jill is really nice, but since it has been mentioned, her voice can be annoying at times. She sat next to me in the shuttle to the studio, and we ended up talking about how we both forgot a proof of social security number, which they tell you have to bring with you to the taping, and the crazy lengths we had to go through to get someone to send it to us. Of course the day after I lose, FJ was an instaget for me.
  4. Thanks. This episode was rough. I was utterly exhausted and brain fried by the time it came around. You probably noticed that. I am dreading watching it. On the bright side, the youtube of yesterday's episode got nearly 500,000 views because of Ari's FJ response before it was taken down. Someone also posted the youtube of Monday's as well. That also appears to have been taken down as well. I did catch FJ, though
  5. I actually didn't want Sunil to win. He's the nicest guy in the world, but he went to one my college's biggest rivals, and I would have been way more upset had I lost to him.
  6. I didn't know what the currency of Venezuela was, but when the clue said "South American Hero" I figured that it had to Bolivar.
  7. I should've gotten Celts. On watching, I can't believe I missed that one.
  8. Someone way a couple of episodes ago posted about the use of picture clues, and I so wanted to respond "Wait until I'm on. I think I saw the worst picture clue ever," referring to the Putin clue. The Diane Sawyer clue was pretty bad as well. I bet theajw is mad that she didn't get the Dough Nation category. I knew that was coming, I just couldn't remember what day. I was so happy when I got the Broadway category! Interestingly enough, when Alex had a Q&A with the audience, several people asked what his favorite book was, and it was "Wuthering Heights." Interesting that they asked a question about that. After I answered the question about James Carville, all I could think of for the rest of the Jeopardy round was Bill Hader's SNL impersonation of him.
  9. As soon as Alex said the answer, I was kicking myself. I really should have gotten that one. Especially since I was a science major.
  10. If someone else buzzes in, they will only get a small amount.
  11. During the orientation, the contestant coordinators specifically pointed out that if it is near the end of the round and you are behind pick the higher valued clues so you can catch up. They tell you this because they want a good game. They fail to mention the reverse of this strategy. If you are in the lead, pick the lower value clues so that it makes it harder for people to catch up. I figured there wasn't much time left and I had a slim lead, so I was better off going for lower valued clues.
  12. Okay, upon watching I realized I wasn't guessing nearly as much as I thought. The Channing Tatum question was a guess. Hanoi was a guess- I knew it was in North Vietnam, and it seemed like a decent guess. Bridgitte Bardot question was a complete shot in the dark that I was shocked was correct. "Born on the Fourth of July" was a bit of a guess. In hindsight, I should have wagered more, but I didn't feel all that confident in that category. I would never have gone that Cheshire Cats category, except for the fact that I realized I was ahead decided to pick the lower valued categories to keep the other players from over taking me. I'm so glad I read Summer of My German Soldier when I was in middle school. On another random note, I went to a Hillary Clinton book signing this morning and told her she should watch Jeopardy tonight. In hindsight, maybe it wasn't the best idea to tell a former Secretary of State to watch you botch a foreign leaders question.
  13. When I saw the category, I considered wagering nothing. That's how not confident I was in that category. But then I realized if I get it right and I loose because I didn't wager enough, I would not be able to forgive myself. I knew it had to be a monarchy of some sort and the only monarchies I could think of were Spain, UK, Monaco, and Sweden, and I knew 100% the first three were wrong and that the fourth one was probably wrong, too. Alana had the same idea- pick a random monarchy and hope it's right. If ever there was a moment where I wanted to say "Suck it Trebek" it was this episode. In our little chat with Alex, he told us that he thought FJ was easy and that he suggested it. Thanks. That's exactly what we all want to hear after missing FJ. That you think it's easy. I'm just going to remember that I had no problems coming up with both correct responses to the FJ in BotD that both Brad and Ken missed.
  14. Thanks. When I watch this episode, I think I may make a drinking game out of it. Take a drink every time I am taking a shot in the dark guess. If I play this game, I probably will be passed out by the end of the Jeopardy round.
  15. I was sweating bullets on that Daily Double. And when the Final Jeopardy category was announced, because I had zero idea where they were going to go with that category. I'm glad that I like Quentin Tarantino movies and that a couple of years ago my school played in the Orange Bowl. One of my friends made fun of the fact that I was out buzzed on the Chemical Weapons clue because I used to be a Chemical Weapons Analyst. I knew I had won before Alex finished reading the clue. I took Media Law in law school, and we talked about the FCC extensively, and the Janet Jackson incident in particular.
  16. Thanks everyone. Not for me it wasn't. That freaked me out. I don't think I realized that I was actually in the lead until that point. It won't air here for another 2 hours. Right now, I'm policing my Facebook page so my east coast friends don't post spoilers.
  17. That was in the hotel lobby. You walked down there and you saw a few people milling about and you knew exactly why.they were there. Everyone had a hanging garment bag, except me. I just folded my clothes in an overnight bag. It didn't really matter because once you got to the studio, there was a place to hang clothes. The shuttle ride was an interesting dynamic. A couple of people were from the NY/NJ area and recognized each other from the audition. I didn't see anyone from my audition. On the shuttle ride to the studio, me and another contestant bonded over the fact that we were both complete idiots and forgot our proof of social security number and the pains we had to go though to have someone fax/email it to us. We both eventually got it. Halfway to LA, I had to pull off in middle of nowhere at 9:00 Monday night to call my dad to tell him where he could find it.
  18. Yes my show is tomorrow. My name is Jennifer. Holy crap that was frustrating! I am such a huge musical theatre fan. I think I may have cried a bit when I saw the category for FJ. On top of that, the also asked a question about Idina Menzel! I think I actually laughed a little with the Idina Menzel question- this taped two weeks after the Oscars and that was still fresh in everyone's mind. Ironically, the very first person I talked to at the hotel waiting for the shuttle was Alison. She asked if there was any category I specifically wanted to see and I said I wanted a musical theatre category. She said she liked geography. Not surprising considering she won by correctly answering a geography question, which I didn't know that at the time. I need to watch when this episode airs here in a couple hours. Seriously, most of the experience was a complete blur and the two things that stuck out were FJ and that question about Idina.
  19. I blanked on FJ in spite of the fact I specifically reviewed Canadian geography before I went on Jeopardy. I've noticed that Canadian geography come up a lot. I also reviewed presidential trivia and and saw that Madison had two VPs that died in office and I remembered thinking that that fact would make a good trivia question.
  20. The moment Angie said she was a Seahawks fan, I wanted her to lose. I noticed that they weren't asking any questions tonight about any Seahawks quarterbacks. That was a terrible wager and I'm glad she didn't win. What is with Alex lately? Seriously, Paige wins over $32K in one day, and she got lucky with categories, while Troy wins $28K in one day and he's "obviously well-read based on that amount." Granted Paige is a lawyer and got a law category, but still one category isn't enough to have a one day total like that.
  21. Yup, they still are. I remember when Eddie was originally on. I was in college and my college newspaper ran a big article about him because he was an alum.
  22. Funny, I also thought I blew up my mock game, except for the part where I was the only one who knew that the Wright Brothers were from Dayton. Never in a million years did I ever think I would get the call. The other reason was that half of the people at the audition were lawyers, and guess what my job is. I actually recognized another person from my mock game in a recent episode. (She was up against Julia, so it didn't end well for her.) Yeah, you totally bond with the other contestants in the pool for the week. There was one other contestant in particular that if she didn't live on the other side of the country, we probably would have been BFFs.
  23. Congrats Andrea! I know how much harder it is to be on the show than to play along at home. Good luck tomorrow!
