  1. I binged both seasons this weekend.  It nearly killed me.  This show grabbed me like nothing has, since Six Feet Under's finale (I still think True Detective season 1 is the best thing I've ever seen on TV but that's a whole other animal).  I don't think there was a single epi that didn't bring me to tears.  Daniel and Tawney's scenes shredded me.  It made my heart hurt and kept me on edge, which is so strange because the pacing was so slow up until the very last epi.  I'm really, really impressed.  I guess it grabbed me at the beginning because my husband was in prison (nonviolent offenses) for awhile, and tho he wasn't isolated on death row like Daniel, I recognized much of the wonder and fear and overwhelming stimulation that Daniel felt at the ordinary everyday stuff  when he came home.  My husband's first trip to walmart was a nail biter.  He wouldn't let go of my hand and was completely distracted to the point that I had to point where I wanted him to walk.    I loved Daniel from the first scene.

  2. http://www.worldanimalprotection.org/sites/default/files/int_files/wildlife-on-a-tightrope-thailand.pdf   Here is a site that advocates for protection for animals worldwide.  This link is specific to animals used to for tourism in Thailand.  I encourage you to explore that entire site if you are not familiar with animal exploitation abroad (as well as here in the US).  You won't enjoy it, but you can help by helping to educate and by not throwing your money at this type of "entertainment."  I'm glad I didn't see this episode, my blood pressure couldn't have handled it.  There are no graphic pictures, but those are available if you want to find them online.

  3. Welp, I'm about a fucking decade late for the Deadwood party, but OMFG....I am appexed (TM/RIP Mikey) that this was canceled.  WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK WERE THEY THINKING???  I never thought I would find someone that was as much of an F bomb abuser as myself, but couple that with his general aptitude for wordiness of the non cussing sort, I fucking LOVE Al.  Jesus, he's awesome.  I would  have given anything for a few more scenes between Trixie and Jane.  I could have done without Alma altogether, or at least have her played by a different actress.  I will be eternally sad that this show was never allowed to live a natural life.  It is a treasure.

Sometimes it seems like people like Baur don't understand not everyone has access to a farmer's market. That's why veganism or even vegetarianism strikes so many people as elitist snobbery.

That's your perception, and yes, there are some snobby vegans.  But I live in Oklahoma City - reddest of the red ag/oil based states.  We have walmarts on every corner.  I am vegan and I can and have lived on what is available at walmart.  People who aren't veg just aren't aware of the choices out there because it is their habit to shop for other products.  We even had a totally raw food/vegan restaurant and culinary academy here for a few years.  I was always amazed it lasted as long as it did.

Once, many years ago, I asked a vegan evangelist what would happen to all the cows, pigs, sheep and chickens if everyone went vegan.  You can't release them to the wild, and there are only so many zoos.  (He never came to grips with the question.)

Well, the question isn't really rooted in any realistic scenario...That is simply not going to happen.  It will happen over time, just like every other shift in culture over the centuries.  Also, many farmed animals like turkeys are bred to have the physical traits that we desire in meat, but which leaves them unable to reproduce naturally, at least at anything resembling a normal rate.  Those same physical traits reduce their natural life span...That's why the presidential turkey pardon is such a farce.  Those turkeys wouldn't live anything resembling a normal life span due to the huge strain placed on thier bodies by their outsize breasts, weakness in their legs from being confined, etc...

  5. I've only watched the first half hour of this (damn job! getting in the way of what's important in life!), but I just wanted to say the looks on Jimmy's face when they are in the interrogation room, when he realized where the conversation was going with regard to Mike's son, was stellar.  He turned to Mike and the realization that came over him was all over his face, no words needed.  He acted those few seconds like a fucking boss.  I love this show.

Am I the only person who thought the marks on Ava's neck were hickeys not bruises?

No, you are most certainly not.  I never even thought about his hands on her throat until someone mentioned it here.  I was too happy being distracted by thoughts of rough sex with Boyd.

  7. I'm not saying I think Rachel should have squee'd and grabbed the baby and turned to a pile of mush, in fact that would have grossed me out a little, but her complete lack of acknowledgment of Willa's um...for lack of a better word, humanness, or her very existence, was just ugly to me.  It's not Willa's fault that Raylan is a pain in the ass.

Walton Goggins is just everything.  That's all I've got when it comes to him.

  8. I don't get the Rachel love.  The acting leaves me cold, too stiff.  And she was just uptight bitch last night.  I don't have children and I don't fall to pieces over babies either (puppies and kittens, yes), but damn, she didn't even acknowledge the baby at all which was just downright rude.

As a so-called professional woman, Winona has failed the test.

The hell?  She's sleep deprived for one, which can make the sanest of us turn psychotic and she has a child with a heart condition and she's traveled all the way across the country to find out more about said child's heart condition.  It's a wonder she's not in a xanax induced coma.
