The Scooby Gang: After the Fall

For those of you, who do not worship the so-called "comic continuation" of the series. I know there's myriad of fanfics dealing with the issue, but I guess it will be interesting to read your thoughts on main Buffyverse characters' later journeys through life. But first of all I would like to present my own very subjective (and biased) opinion regarding what could have happened to main protagonists in the new reality, after the events depicted in the seventh season of Buffy and the fifth season of Angel. So what the Scoobs' and some of their allies' life path might look like after Buffy's "Roman holidays", Giles' efforts to rebuild the Watcher's Council (and create the newborn Slayer Army for that matter), Xander's stint in Africa and Willow's activity in South America? I would like to point out that it was extremely hard to, you know, come to "the same verdict" on all the issues Buffyverse-related, therefore I decided to leave some room for alternative developments.

Feel free to disagree and voice your own opinion.

Buffy. Formerly the Chosen One, she parts ways with the rest of the gang for good (after everything that happened in the final season, I just can't imagine Buffy being friends with W, X and G, and all of them acting like nothing happened), and her relationship with Dawn remain strained. Due to her rift with Giles in the final days of SunnyD and herself being a crappy leader Buffy doesn't participate in either rebuilding the Watchers Council and recruiting/training the new Slayers or dealing with the negative aftermaths of the "Slayer Activation spell". That's the part I have no doubt about. And then there are some variants of possible further developments in the life of Buffy Summers post-Sunnydale.

 

1. Buffy leaves the slaying completely and dedicates herself to other activities. She may graduate from college, find a job she likes, start her own business, become career politian and run for governor of the state of California, write memoirs e.t.c. Even get marry and have some resemblance of happy family life. She can settle anywhere: San Francisco, Paris, New York City, Rome, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Florence, Tokyo, some remote area in Iceland.
2. Buffy continues slaying in her own right. She can fight evil all by herself (as the Slayers were destined to) or do it with some assistance from her new friends (the reformed Angel Investigations comes to mind). She may either join some government-affiliated demon hunting force (Riley's group, for example) or work with clandestine non-government evil fighting groups (such as Charles Gunn's pre-Angel Investigations gang).

As for Buffy's love life... well, the possibilities are endless. She can choose some dark, evil-looking guys, who seem to have a bit of Spike in them.


Or Buffy may at least try someting with one of her sister Slayers (though this relationship will be kinda rocky).



 

Again life is full of surprises and Buffy's choice may be in the guise of, say, Graham Miller.

 

And if we do believe in miracles, who knows, probably there will come a day Buffy will be able to settle things down with her first and only true love (I guess you know whom I'm talkin' about).
 

Giles. G-Man returns to Britain and works double tides to rebuild and reorganize the Watchers Council together with the international Slayer Army. Dawn Summers is his main little helper, but there are lots of others (new characters) involved as well. Giles' brain centre is located somewhere around the Anglo-Scottish border. Once again different possibilities are involved.
1. Giles heads the Council since the destruction of Sunnydale up until now.
2. After two or three years in the office Giles retires due to health problems or is ousted from his position through the combined efforts of different factions within the Council. Robin Wood heads the Watchers Council from now on, while Rupert continues to play a lesser role, dedicating most of his time to research. 

His love life is less complicated than Buffy's. Giles marries his long-time girlfriend Olivia. Buffy fails to attend the ceremony. She and Giles are not on speaking terms for many years.

 

Giles and Olivia live happily ever after, but if the things won't work between the two, Ripper can always use his connections to free his longtime pal Ethan...

Faith. The raven haired Slayer and occasional "rebel without a cause" continues fighting the good fight. Deciding against going into hiding, she moves to Cleveland together with her lover Robin "The Party Crasher" Wood, where they start the Slayer school. Because of Buffy's retirement, Faith Lehane remains de-facto commander of the Slayer Army for many years. Thanks to Giles' (and Robin's to some extent) connections she's granted full pardon. Since the end of Sunnydale Faith either survives many battles with the forces of Evil (training junior Slayers in the process) or dies like a hero in the fight. When it comes to Faithie's love life yours truly sees different develpments:

1. Faith continues her relationship with Wood and eventually the two passionate demon hunters end up getting married and adopting/having a kid of their own (very unlikely, but I can dream, you know).

 

2. Faith and Robin break up due to numerous differences and the Slayer #2 decides to experiment with one of her sisters in arms.

 

 

 

3. Faith is dissappointed in men and makes a choice to set aside differences and give her longtime rival a try.

 

Dawn. After some hesitation former mystical Key and Buffy's younger sister choses to follow Giles' path and enters Watchers Academy in England. For several years she rises to the position of the junior Watcher and eventually becomes Giles' right hand. She remains estranged with her sister, but continues to be close friends with Willow, Xander, Faith and many former SITs. I have several options regarding her love life.

1. Dawnie realizes she's into girls and is therefore involved with Vi, one of the former Potentials for many years since the fall of Sunnydale.

 

 

2. Then again Dawn can resume her very close friendship with Janice (probably her first lover, who knows), if things between her and the redhead Slayer won't work out.

 

3. And IMO Dawn and, say, Connor could be helluva couple too.

And finally, Willow and Xander. After spending some considerable amount of time on different continents, the two lifelong friends eventually realize they were complete fools all of the time and cannot live without each other anymore. Both are still devastated because of what have happened to their hometown, past lives and loved ones, and turn to each other for comfort. Their situation is peculiar since the two find out the truth about Buffy's resurrection spell and their own role in the rise of the First Evil and the massacre that followed. The worst thing is that some influential people in the Watchers Council discover that secret too and start asking questions. The subsequent events still vary in my mind.
 

1. Willow and Xander continue working with Giles and the Council, but a dark cloud is hovering over them. They fight the good fight nevertheless and fall together in one of the biggest battles since the destruction of Sunnydale.
2. The Witch and the Carpenter decide to spent the rest of their lives together, 'cause they've already lost too much precious time in the past. They engage, but Xander, who's been walkin' on the thin ice since the events in Dirty Girls, loses his life in the confrontation before becoming a father (no happy ending at the Hellmouth, remember). Their newborn daughter inherits Willow's intelligence, and a lot of goofy personality from Xander.

 

 

3. Having enough of the slaying and all the things Council-y, the two of my favorite Buffyverse characters finally quit. They live together somewhere in the Irish countryside ever since, staying away from all the Hellmouthes of the world, obtaining aliases and false documents. Their whereabouts are unknown to most people (maybe except for Dawnie and Giles).

I like the idea of Dawn and Vi although I prefer the idea of Dawn and Amanda. Dawn and Connor would be interesting, what would their kids turn out to be like?

I'd go for that, Xillow forever! They live in Londonderry and take their kids to Barrys on the weekend.

Boy, now that he's older doesn't Nick begin to look like ASH?

Buffy and Faith; get married, have 5 kids between them and move to San Francisco where Faith becomes a martial arts instructor and Buffy becomes a personal shopper.

Dawn and Connor; get married and have three kids, all with superpowers, Dawn becomes a doctor and Connor takes over Angel Investigations.

Xander, Willow and Kennedy get together in an open marriage, have a bevvy of children and open a Wicca themed restaurant. 

Giles hooks up with Vi and becomes the curator of the British museum (aka the new Watcher's Council).

I haven't really read a whole lot of the comics, but I liked the part with Buffy and the gang settling down in San Francisco, because that's the most beautiful city in the world.  

Pushing it a little (San Diego, Sydney) but yes, it's a great place and they could always run into the Charmed ones.

True, sometimes it's hard to find a hotter couple in the Buffyverse. Them tryin' to work it out post-Chosen could be really great...

Well that was the idea for the spinoff, Faith on a motorcycle.
