ElectricBoogaloo May 17, 2014 Share May 17, 2014 We are in Mississippi -- not high cotton season, or tailgate college football season, or vegetable harvest, or blues festivals. It's winter. It's stark and yet we are here to unlock the many ghosts, stereotypes and tropes that prevail when we normally hear about Mississippi. Promo available here. Link to comment
Dagny May 19, 2014 Share May 19, 2014 I liked how the lady called out the restaurant food. You won't get healthy eating this food. I'd like to know more about the restaurant that the black went in the front door and the whites entered in the back. Link to comment
ElectricBoogaloo May 31, 2014 Author Share May 31, 2014 It wasn't healthy, but it looked delicious! I liked this episode - good food, interesting history, and not too much try hard business from Bourdain. He's much better when he just relaxes and lets people tell their stories instead of trying to frame everything in an effort to seem more political or highbrow. 1 Link to comment
BooksRule June 10, 2014 Share June 10, 2014 Dagney, I've never eaten at Doe's Eat Place, but I've heard that the steaks are really, really good (although the reviews at Doe's other locations aren't always as good as at the original--although I'm just quoting what I've read--I can't speak from experience). Here is a link to the restaurant, with the history of the place: http://www.doeseatplace.com/history.html (my first link: I hope I did it right!) Link to comment
Athena June 10, 2014 Share June 10, 2014 A lot of the food looked really good to me. A friend mine is from Jackson and confirmed how good the Big Apple Inn. Mmm. I enjoyed the laid back vibe the show replicated, but also the sort of desolation in the delta. Link to comment
