John Potts August 15, 2017 Share August 15, 2017 (edited) Quote Kira masterminds a plot to obtain an enemy weapon; Worf instigates a power shift within the Klingon Empire. All change at the top! Did like that it was Ezri who instigated the toppling of Gowron - as the heir to Curzon and Jadzia, she knows enough about Klingons to understand the power dynamics; as a Counsellor, it makes sense that she would understand why Gowon was acting the way he was and as somebody who's 300 years old (kinda), she's seen enough to appreciate the historical context. But of course, it was Worf that had to wield the knife (well, Bat'leth) and do the deed - it's actually surprising that the "Armchair General" Gowron put up as good a showing in that fight as he did against somebody who's beaten Jem'Hadar in combat, though that might explain why he left himself completely vulnerable when going in for the kill (which was his undoing). Still have to wonder why Starfleet has all those easily shatterable glass tables (whatever happened to transparent aluminium?) around the station though. Kira showed why she was such an effective terrorist (and why Rusot made such a bad one) with the way she easily overpowered Rusot in their conflict, her awareness of what was going on with Odo and her coolness when the plan started going awry (loved her offhanded reply to the question of what would happen if they sent somebody to investigate - "Then we're all dead!"). And again we see Damar doing what needed to be done - killing his own people if it serves the greater good. Liked the little cameos from Julian & Miles (did like seeing Julian snap at Miles following his second all nighter and Miles just brushing it off - theirs is truly a love for the ages!) and Weyoun & the Founder (was I getting a slight impression that even Weyoun's unquestioning loyalty to the Founders might be starting to waver when they calmly discussed his termination - perhaps the delays in repairing the cloning facility might not be entirely through lack of resources/priorities?). This wouldn't be the first Weyoun to question his loyalty to the Founders (as I'm sure you know). That interaction between the Founder and Weyoun was kind of humorous. Maybe the disease was making her cranky, but she was plainly and openly wishing she could "dispose" of the current Weyoun and replace him with a fresh model (clone). I also notice they are playing the Breen for comedy as well, with those silly indecipherable noises they make. Which they follow up with "Good point", an over the top facial expression from Weyoun, or something equally silly. Why aren't we hearing the Breen in English, if the universal translators are working? You can tell things are getting down to the end here when Worf kills off Gowron, a well established character. For someone who once lost any position on the Klingon homeworld, Worf has had a big hand in the shaping of their government. By the way, there's something about Martok's Klingon makeup and expressions that is really starting to remind me of Jack Palance. Only three (or four, depending on how you look at it) episodes to go. I don't know how things are going to end, or how well they are going to sew up all the plot points. But it makes me wonder if anyone from DS9 expected that they would ever get to make any films like TOS and TNG did? DS9 was the third Star Trek series, and you would think they would be next in line for a movie. Link to comment
