But, as yet, no voting has occurred.   So, it doesn't matter when anyone has went on.  And with youtube, most of the acts get seen a lot after the show.

Sob stories are to draw an audience. 

If you are good enough, it doesn't matter when you go on.  And someone has to be last and first, so no evidence of manipulation.
