If memory serves, ABC did it because the show initially went too plotty -- trying to follow from the fallout of the wedding that blew up. ABC just jumped straight ahead into the more hangout sitcom episodes from later in the first season. But I think the show did do some light re-editing to accommodate the re-ordering, so I'm not sure there would have been a clean way to show them in the original order, unless Sony kept the original edits around.
