Readalot December 5, 2015 Share December 5, 2015 Have you ever fallen in love with a book and want to fall in love with all of the author's books? But then waste time and money on the author's next book or sequel and you swear it was written by someone else? I've come across quite a few, but here are two to start: Ann Packer - The Dive From Clausen's Pier is one of my all time favorite books. The moral dilemma the protagonist (Carrie) faces was fascinating to me the first time I read it and still is in my latest read of it (I read it 1-2 times yearly and the paperback is falling apart). About a decade after the first read I knew someone who faced a similar situation and I'm glad I had Carrie's perspective to it. Her next novel was Songs Without Words. It was good but I didn't feel like I was reading the author of TDFCP. Her latest "The Children's Crusade" was on a different planet to me that TDFCP was. If I didn't know they were written by the same author I would of bet big money that they weren't. Anna Quindlen - "Every Last One" is a nightmare come true for any mom. Another book I read yearly. The actions and emotions of all the characters ring true to me. Next book, "Still Life With Bread Crumbs". Ugh. Bought it when it first came out and I still haven't finished it. I've enjoyed Quindlen's other books but this one is so different than the others... As far as sequels go, I've been lucky. "September" by Rosamunde Pilcher was a worthy sequel to "Shell Seekers" and yet another yearly read for me (what can I say, books are like my friends and I like to have a yearly visit with them). "The Deep End of the Ocean" had a satisfying sequel (but didn't like the twist) in "No Time To Wave Goodbye". And all of Maeve Binchy's sequels are like coming home for me. I'm interested in reading your picks.... (And if anyone has a better title, please change it, I'm not very creative). Link to comment
