Jake Sisko: The Vest of Both Worlds

Recommended Posts

Funny how I ended up relating to Nog a lot more when I fist watched the show but I do think Sisko's relationship with Jake was one of the keys to the show. Watching reruns of The Rifleman with Chuck Connors I realized how similiar it was with the single dad raising his son and since DS9 was originally conceived as a space western it works. Rewatching s5's "Nor the Battle to the Strong" was the first time I really liked him and thought Cirrock Lofton did a great job.

I liked Jake too (though Nog was more interesting). I kind of wish they knew more about what they wanted to do with him. I was rewatching the five parter in season 6 and they didn't really give him a good reason to stay on DS9. It's not like there wasn't going to be stories on the defiant. They should have at least had him be working for Bajor.

I'm in the middle of watching the show for the first time, and Jake is interesting to me, because a lot of the times, he doesn't really feel like his own character.

He's often times paired up with another character, and the character he's paired with gets the majority of the focus.

He's like able when he gets his time to shine, but most of the time, he just… exists.
