Occasional Hope November 22, 2014 Share November 22, 2014 I didn't personally like Pixie's dance - I hate prostitution themes. Tacky, tasteless and crass, imo. Steve was the only really bad *performer* tonight technically speaking - very lumpen and heavy. He needs to go. But the other B2 person could be anyone. It's a popularity contest at this point (not that it wasn't before). They all seem pretty good dancers, OK, some better than others, but not so much that after Steve has gone I'll be thinking anyone was robbed particularly. Link to comment

Once it became popularized in the bordellos of 1920s Argentina, its common theme became that of a prostitute and her john seducing each other. Before that, it was a same-sex male dance that was done exclusively by the Argentine gauchos who invented it (they danced with each other because there were no women around to dance with until it was introduced to the bordellos), and it's still traditionally a male/male dance there today. Something for both the homophobes and the prudes in general to hate. Win-win! :-P Link to comment
Occasional Hope November 27, 2014 Author Share November 27, 2014 The history of the dance is interesting, but it's the cosying up and glamorisation for a mass audience in 2014 of the exploitation of women I object to. Link to comment
legaleagle53 December 1, 2014 Share December 1, 2014 The history of the dance is interesting, but it's the cosying up and glamorisation for a mass audience in 2014 of the exploitation of women I object to. What would you make of it if it were still done male/male only, as is commonly the case in Argentina even today? Would you consider that a referendum on homosexuality or same-sex marriage and object to it on those grounds? My point, of course, is that it's all in the eye of the beholder, and mileage is definitely going to vary here. Link to comment
