Of course, I didn’t realize I wanted to go into it until I was a senior but that’s besides the point. I had classmates who majored in history, art history, philosophy, etc. Medical schools actually like candidates that don’t major in the main sciences. It makes them look more well-rounded and therefore sympathetic doctors. Whitaker kind of proves that. I, too, attended med school with people who weren't science majors and, if anything, it is tougher to fit in med school prerequisites around a non-science major. One of my classmates majored in musical performance. He was a talented pianist who'd actually toured Europe with a youth symphony as a teen. He could play anything by ear. Another was a major in English literature and the breadth of her knowledge of the subject was admirable. They were both excellent med students and I presume are talented docs. I was a Genetics major, a subject that I love, but it would've been nice to have a broader education.
