Kinda sorta. It's going to follow the Manga more closely than the series from the 80s. First hint is Ranma-chan's pink hair, instead of the red hair from the 80s series.

A lot of anime have gotten that treatment recently. Of course Full Metal Alchemist is a famous example, but even One Piece is getting it now.

This is also why it's still set in the 80s, like the Manga was.

I loved this manga growing up and while I didn't get to watch all of the anime during it's first run I am really enjoying this reboot.  I do hope they keep going....
