CM-BlueButterfly September 22 Share September 22 When I watch shows with political content, I always find myself either drawing comparisons to real life politics or wondering just how realistic of a portrayal it is. As such a discussion seems befitting of a show like The West Wing, I’ve decided to take a leap of faith and include this topic in the anniversary forum. While the show doesn’t have to be mentioned in every single post, kindly keep all discussion of today’s politics connected to the show. But enough of the preliminaries. Comment below to share your thoughts on how do you think the show’s portrayal of politics compares to contemporary politics? Which storylines do you find the most relevant today and which resonate with you the most because of how they compare to today? Link to comment
Woopwoopkitty September 28 Share September 28 I don’t think I could watch this show today. Back then I knew it wasn’t realistic but it was idealistic. It allowed me to believe that it was possible and gave me hope that if things were just a little bit different it was plausible to have people of this integrity leading our nation. I no longer believe that. After one man became President and turned the White House into a nightmare worse than Veep could have dreamed of I’m far too cynical and jaded to believe anymore. 3 Link to comment
buttersister September 28 Share September 28 The original watch was addictive to a former political junkie. My first rewatch from January 2017 was for the salvation of my mental health. Subsequent viewings now feel like fantasy, which is a sad state of affairs, but keep us hopeful for better days to come, from the angels of our better natures. 1 Link to comment
