katisha June 16 Share June 16 Later, let's talk about how Pezza has "never even heard of a macaron", which I bet he pronounces as "macaROON"! 1 Link to comment
katisha June 16 Author Share June 16 6 hours ago, katisha said: which I bet he pronounces as "macaROON"! And sure enough... 😂 Now that I've got that out of the way, GRRRRRRRR! With the lack of a female relative or two to reference, instead we got the Pezza sob story side about missing "the wife and kids". I could probably have looked past that but even though I can understand why grainy creme caramel might not eat as well as whatever Pezza plated up, is nobody EVER going to say anything about his appalling plating? I mean, why did that chocolate cake have to be cut into unattractive chunks of irregular size? Before he decided to cover them up, the custard thingies which didn't set properly looked like runny dog turds. The whole thing was a mess but the judges were speaking about it as if it was some kind of miraculous advancement in how the guy makes desserts. Enough already with the favouritism! Poor Gill. You deserved better but you don't fit the agenda of the producers so bye-bye. Article about Gill's booting here. You might enjoy the really sweet things Gill wrote about working with Lochie on the twinning challenge last week, @Snazzy Daisy. Darssh knocked it out of the park. He's really, really good and I love that he mostly cooks his desserts and isn't only able to make frozen things with moulds in a blast chiller (hello, Reynold!). I'm not going to post any spoilers on this thread at all about what I've seen on the Sportsbet page. The only comment I'm going to make is that it's all over the place! In past years they've had things pretty much bang on from the top 10 onwards and it's absolutely not the case this season. 🤐 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy June 16 Share June 16 S16•E33 - Zumbo’s Macaron Taste Test + Coffee Elimination That’s a really quick taste test. It finishes before we even get to the more interesting flavors. I don’t understand why these contestants keep putting back the half-eaten macarons. Stop wasting tasty desserts! Well done, Darrsh! It’s a blessing that he didn’t win an immunity in Sweet Week. He keeps learning, cooking and producing some yummy desserts. He says there’ll be more savory dishes after this, so we’ll see! Overbaked crème caramel isn’t pleasant to eat and that’s why Gill is sent home. Am fine with it. I wish Gill could’ve done a frozen dessert or a coffee cake etc so we could have a different outcome and kick Pezza back to Tassie to be with his grandkids. No more recipes from the ouija board huh, Pezza? Exhausted by his dead relatives, he has now moved on to Darren Purchese. Very ambitious! 🙄The sexist jokes need to stop. His Aussie bloke shtick is wearing thin. Pezza continues talking his way out of his mess. There’s nothing technical about his dessert. Bravo Zumbo for calling Pezza out for his sh!tty plating. 👏🏻 The judges continue to coddle him. He isn’t being criticized for his hideous plating. Why? He’s in Top 9 now and there’s no finesse in his plating. At this point, plating needs to play a large part too. Stop babying this man. Pezza keeps getting away with mediocrity and sexist jokes is appalling. The producers really miss the mark with this Aussie bloke persona. All things considered, we can expect to see Pezza in the finale. 🙄 PS: Thanks @katisha for the article link. 😉 2 Link to comment
katisha June 17 Author Share June 17 First up, I really enjoyed Nagi as a guest and would be happy to have her back. She's got a lovely, positive energy and was generous with praise when it was deserved. Well done, show, for actually providing a suitable bottom 3 for once! Even though they tried to make it seem as though Nat might end up there, I knew overcooked rice wasn't enough of a food crime for the judges to do this to her in particular. Let's face it, she could probably have served them raw rice and she would have still evaded the bottom 3. Meanwhile, Mimi's dish looked absolutely delicious and I'm glad it was the best today. Sumeet was excellent too and I don't know why they keep doubting her ability to produce quite a few dishes in a short amount of time because she's done it a number of times now. Even in putting Pezza in the bottom four, Poh actually felt she had to apologise to him for her comments about not liking the sauce. I mean, he's a business owner and farmer in his 40s, a dad and a grand-dad. He really should be handle a few critical words. Why do they believe he's so fragile? And I don't like sweet peanut sauce either. If I wanted to eat something sweet and peanut-flavoured I'd get peanut brittle. Alex should definitely be where she is (although had Pezza cooked what she did, they probably would have compared him to Heston Blumenthal). And Sav isn't the cook she first appeared to be (and still seems to think she is). But out of the three, I hope she lasts a bit longer than both Pezza or "Crispy". Recap time! Quote “I really don’t know where I’m going with this box,” says Alex, who has made the fatal mistake of wasting precious minutes going to a studio to sit in front of a white backdrop and talk about her feelings, rather than getting on with the cook. Meanwhile, Josh wisely decides to go with what he knows: name checking a female relative. Meanwhile, Harry is making a dish called “Monday night fish night”. At Harry’s place this is one of the top seven meals he cooks, along with Tuesday night fish night, Wednesday night fish night, Thursday night fish night, Friday night fish night, Saturday night fish night, and Sunday Prawnorama. Andy angrily tells Josh that his mother’s peanut chicken isn’t good enough, and only by renouncing his mother and all she stands for will he ever break free of the bonds of mediocrity. Josh sadly agrees to turn his back on his mother’s recipe, as in the garden a cock crows three times. Sumeet and Alex reaffirm their pledge to join together to destroy their competitors. “There’s a rule with my friends: when you come to Sumeet’s house, you don’t eat that day,” Sumeet chuckles darkly, reflecting on all the times she has starved her friends. Nat brings forward her poached Murray cod. All the judges agree that the dish is delicious, but the rice is a little bit mushy, though they stress that this does not detract from Nat’s perfection as a human being. Josh brings forth the peanut chicken with which he betrayed his mother’s legacy. Jean-Christophe declares that it is missing “je ne sais quoi”, a French term which literally translates as “something that doesn’t make me want to vomit”. Everyone is in agreement that Josh has destroyed their will to live, and his family will carry this stain unto the seventh generation. 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy June 17 Share June 17 (edited) S16•E34 - Nagi’s Mega Mystery Box What is Poh wearing? 😳 Bold prints don’t suit you, Poh. Sofia’s outfits are getting more and more revealing. First, the legs and the bare back, then the side boob and now the midriff. Congrats Mimi for winning the dish of the day. Keep reminding yourself not to bite more than you can chew, OK! Darrsh keeps his promise by cooking a savory dish. Lochy has impressed Nagi and the judges with his combination of spices. Harry and his fish - same old same old. Sumeet’s dish is very, very similar to the dish that she cooked in the sauce challenge. The naan is replaced with rice. Euwwwww! Nat touches the fish then tucks her hair behind her ear and then touches the fish again. She does that several times during the cookout. 🤢 Look at Sav’s face when the judges are giving their feedbacks. It’s Week 9 and she still cannot handle criticisms. Andy giving Pezza a stern reminder to quickly fix his sauce. Pezza is obviously his pet. Just by looking at the dish and its color, you know it’s bland and basic as hell. Pezza’s mom may not be a good cook as he thinks she is. Quote “There’s nothing wrong with the element. But it’s just so basic. It wasn’t cook us the most basic dish that you could execute with the ingredients. Cook us something that essentially wow us.” - Andy Quote “When you do simple, you still have to show us that you’re moving forward. And I feel like this dish is stepping backward.” - Poh The judges have no problem giving Alex harsh criticisms for making Nando's in MasterChef kitchen but continue to coddle Pezza. Why this same criteria didn’t apply to Pezza in previous challenges??! Alex and Sav, please do well tomorrow as a collective effort to kick Pezza out. 😆 Alternatively, just eliminate ALL three of them. None is likeable. The Disney Prince is back!!! 😉 Edited June 17 by Snazzy Daisy 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy June 17 Share June 17 Ladies, Someone on Reddit discovered Pezza's baking Bible. 😆 Sponge cake recipes are available from (book) page 43 to 51. Check it out: Fielder's Cornflour Recipe Book | Vintage 1920s to 1940s Info Credit 1 Link to comment
katisha June 18 Author Share June 18 8 hours ago, Snazzy Daisy said: The Disney Prince has crushed their spirits!!! 😧 Maybe, but not quite in the right way! Things we learnt from this episode: Pezza might not have any creativity to speak of but I'll say this much for him - he can follow a recipe (also making me think his many "I've never done xxx before in my life!" statements aren't quite accurate.) Unfortunately, he had a really good day today. Godammit! Sav's hubris came very close to bringing her undone today. She was actually quite rude to Andy when he asked her whether she had enough ingredients to re-make the mousse, and she snapped that she had the ingredients but not enough time. And trying to fix the mousse HER way probably took three times longer than re-making it would have, which is what I think Andy was trying to suggest to her. She's just lucky that Alex stuffed up that coffee gel so badly. She needs to learn a lesson here but I can't see it happening, unfortunately. The Disney Prince still looks like, well, a Disney Prince! Nat could probably tell us which one. 🤣 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy June 18 Share June 18 S16•E35 - Hugh Allen’s Pressure Test Sorry Hugh, your Banksia Pod coffee dessert looks real but unappetizing. It triggers the sense of trypophobia in me. 😣 The unmoulding drama isn’t as intense as shown in the promo. In fact, this is quite a boring episode for me, mainly because am not a fan of the bottom 3 contestants. Hugh is quiet as usual, quieter than Adriano Zumbo. During the cookout, he often looks horrified by the contestants when the camera zooms on him. I laugh at the “uninterested” look on his face when he takes a glance at giddy Nat who’s struggling to control her tingling ovaries. 😂 Pezza thinks Hugh is a spitting image of his son. Stop with the BS, dude. Shhh! This man is such a brown-noser. Hugh comes to his bench and the way he talks to him - very animated and sweeter than sugar! Bye bye Crispy! Her banksia pod seems like it survived a bushfire, burnt to a crisp. Sav has just scraped through. Calling the banksia pod stupid in talking head is her usual disdainful self. So abrasive. Andy is the only judge who continues to check on Sav, pushing and encouraging her. He even opens the freezer door for her. The other judges are busy doing what exactly? The judges demand refinement and finesse from everyone BUT Pezza. It’s the biggest mystery in S16. 🙄 So, there won’t be any elimination on the first day of HK Week. The surprise elimination is not needed if they didn’t bring back Sav into the competition. Just saying… Am worried for Lochy and Darrsh! 😥 Link to comment
katisha June 19 Author Share June 19 15 hours ago, Snazzy Daisy said: Am worried for Lochy and Darrsh! 😥 Well, thanks to what turned out to be completely inaccurate spoilers I didn't think I had to worry about Sumeet, but unfortunately I should have. ☹️ (Now that she's gone I'll reveal that in the latest Sportsbet market she was actually supposed to finish runner-up!) And it's not that I don't think she deserved to go, because that frozen raw egg thing never sounded like a good idea and I hate blue cheese, so I can understand why the judges had to boot her. It just sucks that people like Pezza and Sav are still there while she's gone. Oh, well, at least she got her Coles sauce prize and I'm happy for her that she did. Things I enjoyed about this episode: Harry winning dish of the day, finally. And he didn't have to cook fish to do it! Enjoy that business class seat! Mimi continuing to be very creative and mostly getting the balance right. Things that made me want to rip my hair out: Pezza. STOP REFERRING TO YOURSELF AS PEZZA! And he might have thought his dish was incredibly innovative, but if he's using himself as a measuring stick, let's fact it, we're not talking about a very high bar. Nat apparently served up eggs with both a runny yolk AND a runny white but that wasn't enough of a sin to put her in danger, of course. Meanwhile, the stupid bows are back along with some little flowers. It's a shame she doesn't seem to know how to clip that hair away from her face when she's cooking. If Sav wonders why people think she's quite a one dimensional cook, perhaps it's because the only way she seems to be able to add a novel twist to anything is to combine it with Sri Lankan flavours. Not necessarily wrong but not at all innovative in my opinion. With Sumeet gone my loyalties now lie with Mimi and Darrsh. But really, I'm OK with anyone winning as long as it's not Pezza or Nat. Snazzy Daisy June 19 Share June 19 S16•E36 - Bacon & Eggs Reinvention Test Bye Sumeet! You’re a lovely lady. Please utilize the platform that MC has given you and work towards your dream of becoming a Sauce Boss. 🤞🏻 Let’s talk about WHAT IF. If Sumeet’s eggs are perfectly cooked and if Lochy cooks a more inventive dish, the bottom 2 dishes would definitely belong to Nat and Sav. At Top 8 and in an invention test, Nat makes congee and throws in some bacons & undercooked egg. Sav claims she has reinvented Sri Lankan breakfast (check her IG) only by making candied bacon and a sunny side-up with rice. Their dishes are definitely NOT “inventive”. There are some negative comments online re Sofia after today’s episode because she doesn’t agree with the other judges about Mimi’s thought provoking dish. TBH, I like seeing the judges disagree with each other occasionally. It feels real. The thing that feels staged and scripted is when all of them going gaga over Pezza’s unrefined dishes. Congrats Harry for winning the best dish and the “epic” prize. I hope your prize comes in the form of MEL/HKG business class return ticket, not just one-way. 😆 3 hours ago, katisha said: Pezza.
