katisha May 19 Share May 19 Well, I guess the contestants should be thankful that tonight Luke didn't make one of the cloched ingredients bull's penis - remember that was one of the elements of his pho elimination dish last year? 😂 Even though I felt that Juan's limitations as a cook were starting to show, I'm sad to see him leave purely because he's such a nice, cheerful bloke and it'd be practically impossible not to like him. No wonder the others looked so upset. And I think sending him home over Steve was also the right call because whilst Juan could have fixed the imbalanced ingredients and had time to do it, I don't think we can blame Steve for not knowing how long to cook something he's never eaten and spat out when he DID try some. I think it speaks volumes for Nat being a favourite in this competition that even though she was in an elimination tonight and made it into the second round, unless I missed it they didn't say a thing about her immunity pin. I reckon they feel she's so good she may never need to use it, but even with favourite contestants in the past they have really belaboured the point about immunity pins. Interesting indeed. Meanwhile, here's the new recap and Ben is in good form! Quote Many gamble on the cloche, but Darrsh sticks with durian despite the fact that durian is actually a weapon, not a food. “This durian is just like me: all spiky on the outside, and a lot to love on the inside,” says Darrsh. Nobody has any idea what he’s talking about. “I don’t mind the smell,” he adds, thought whether he means the durian or himself here is unknown. “So the lotus root is a side dish,” says Luke, in the same tone one might say, “So you are planning to drown ALL the puppies.” Juan tells Poh and Luke that he is making chicken empanadas. The judges suspect he might just have chosen a dish based on how good it sounds in his accent. “Make sure it works,” says Luke, causing Juan to abandon his plans of making it not work. Steve has no idea how long bitter melon takes to cook, or indeed why anyone would want to cook it. Steve is suffering an all-encompassing existential crisis and has stared so long into the bitter melon that the bitter melon is staring also into him. Life was simpler with the crocodiles. 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 19 Share May 19 S16•E17 - Elimination With Luke Nguyen No weird organ from Luke. Thank god! Andy’s salmon suit and Poh’s Christmas ornament dress are really fugly. 👎🏻 Harry, Sumeet, Juan, Steve, Sav, David and Mimi choose the hidden ingredient - what a gambler! 👏🏻 Same goes to Darrsh for picking durian. Bravo! Durian is delicious. “Of course Nat will take it [coriander] all”. David says this with a straight face. Nat’s narcissistic personality is on full display. Others be damned. That bloody IP makes a good accessory to her inflated ego. 🙄 Why would Andy be touching Steve’s filling with bare hand? It’s unhygienic and disgusting. The editing for this season is terrible. Around 19 mins++, we see David, Sav, Gill and Sue on the gantry when they’re supposed to be cooking in round 1 down there. SLOPPY! Once upon a time, a raw hero ingredient will send you home. Being a judges’ favorite is such an advantage. They prefer eating raw bitter melon than a sweet empanada. 🙄 Am glad Lochy and Harry are still in the competition. After today’s episode, I really want the 2 judges’ favorites to be gone soon, poof! Kinda mad at Juan DLC for making empanadas again. But I will miss his upbeat personality and his infectious smile. 😥 Link to comment
katisha May 20 Author Share May 20 I enjoyed Vincent Yeow Lim's first appearance on Masterchef tonight. He's got good energy. I can totally see why his stuff on social media is so popular. Oh, Harry, maybe trying to make that tofu custard in the wok was where you went wrong? I know you'll be sad he's in the bottom 4, @Snazzy Daisy, so I'm sad too. Although you may be happy that Lochie did so well and that we didn't have to endure another episode where the judges try and make Stevo have a stroke or something by questioning what he's making and why. Darssh is either in for a world of pain in tomorrow night's challenge or the edit monkeys are trying to throw us off the scent. In theory, he and David should be advantaged by the pressure test seeing as it's a dessert and both of them are better known for desserts than Snez or Harry. And I think that's all I got for now! Snazzy Daisy May 20 Share May 20 S16•E18 - Vincent Yeow Lim’s Mystery Box Vincent Yeow Lim brings good vibes to MC kitchen with his constructive comments and his wok-ing Masterclass. But there’s a concerning trend here. The calibre and proficiency of MC guest judges have been downgraded to being TikTok famous for viral contents. 😣 Hey Pezza, don’t be so baffled about a wok. It’s a cookware. 🙄 Are the contestants allowed to wear sleeveless and skimpy clothes for filming? Look at Nat. Mimi comes up with another creative dish. She’s a creative cook. While the dishes by Sav and Sumeet have turned out to be pretty basic. What have you done Harry? A mapo tofu without tofu? He should’ve grabbed some ready made silken tofu from the pantry to improve his dish. He gives up so easily. David is unhinged. In a wok challenge, he’s making a British style fish and chips. He’s trying too hard to be different. The “you can cook everything in a wok” challenge has pushed Lochy to try something new. His sweet and sour barramundi has come out on top. Good job! Yes @katisha, am so proud and happy for him. He makes “dusting between the flaps” sounds sexy! 🤣🙈☺️ Among the bottom 4, I think Snez and Harry could be in trouble. Anyway, I cannot wait to see Darrsh in a dessert pressure test. 😘 Link to comment
katisha May 21 Author Share May 21 Well, for once the edit monkeys actually managed to create some suspense because generally, if you're the first person shown after a pressure test you probably did better than everyone else. Instead, Snez LOOKED like she had done better than everyone else but the proof of the pudding was, sadly, in the eating and hers apparently tasted the worst. It's a shame to lose her but she's not the first savoury cook to be picked off by one of those dastardly complicated desserts and she won't be the last. Harry did do very well under pressure and David's so nerdy that that type of challenge was right up his alley. Darssh just got very, very lucky that Snez had a worse day than he did because I was getting anxious just looking at that bomb site on his bench. No wonder he couldn't find anything. I'm not sure what's happening tomorrow night - a group challenge involving microwaves? Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 21 Share May 21 S16•E19 - Anna Polyviou’s Pressure Test “If you work in sh!t, you produce sh!t.” Anna’s word of the day! 👏🏻 All the talks about over-whipped mousse is obviously a foreshadowing. A dessert cook struggling in a dessert pressure test because of his own messiness. Thank god Darrsh nails the flavors. The habit of tasting his elements throughout the cooking doesn’t go unnoticed. The judges keep pressuring Darrsh to clean his messy bench. NONE of them actually try to calm him down, ask him to stop for a minute and take a deep breath. Mel would’ve done that. Andy does help, only by moving some bottles a few inches away. 🤦🏻♀️ I know nerdy David will survive this pressure test. It’s Harry that surprises me. He nails every elements of Anna’s Sunny Side-Up. Harry has proven to be more than “a fish guy”. He can cook bacon too! 😆 Snez can function in a beautiful chaos mode because she isn’t messy like Darrsh. It’s too bad that she has over- whipped her sourdough mousse while trying to multitask and catching-up. Bye Snez! We have been misled into thinking that Harry (honeymoon setback story including the wedding photo) and Darrsh (his messiness) would be in trouble. They also release a promo about Snez’s mom energy, so I think she’d be okay. Sneaky editing‼️ 1 Link to comment
katisha May 22 Author Share May 22 I realised tonight I'm actually enjoying this season quite a bit more than the last couple because they've found some contestants who are at least trying to do something different. We don't have a Brent Draper-type pre-determined winner who makes the same basic dish with minor variations using a hibachi every.damn.time and we also don't have a creepy Ice-Cream Ben type who will make the most disgusting ice-cream every chance they get even if it's not even slightly appropriate for the challenge (or a parfait like...I want to say Elise, if memory serves?) So for that reason I'm actually glad David won because he's pretty out there with some of his ideas, and I'm glad Darssh is also prepared to experiment. Even contestants I don't especially like such as Mimi and Nat are pretty adventurous with some of their dishes and it's good to see. It was nice to get to know American Josh a bit better. I certainly had no idea he was half Jamaican. And considering Sue's dish actually sounded pretty nice without the accidental addition of banana cream to the mix, she was a great sport about it. Sunday looks interesting with this TikTokker. I don't use that platform at all - you might, @Snazzy Daisy, and if you do have you heard of the special guest? Link to comment

Am not on TikTok, apps from China freak me out. 😆 My friend told me the TikToker's name is Miki. Her real name is Mikiko Terasaki. The dish is called Omurice (Japanese Omelet Rice). And this is how it's prepared. Edited May 25 by Snazzy Daisy Corrected the TikToker's name! 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 22 Share May 22 S16•E20 - Microwave Immunity Cook A Harvey Norman episode‼️ So, when can we expect an air fryer challenge for this season? 🙄 Just cook the Jamaican curry, Josh. Enough with the sob story, the Covid setback etc. Alex channeling her inner Princess Leia tonight. The overly happy expression and her signature grin continue to feel inauthentic. She receives a lot of airtime for a very basic dish. Finally, some airtime for our eggplant beater, Sue because she f*cks-up! Well, what else can you say/do about the piping bags mixup other than laugh. This can be a sequel to WCV plot. 😆 Harry, Lochy and Gill have disappeared into the oblivion. We don’t even know what their dishes are. Steve with another Women’s Weekly dessert. It looks very unappetizing. Geeky David makes spiced pumpkin banoffee tart and wins immunity. Congrats! “That bloke is a genius” - coming from JC, that’s quite a compliment, David. 👍🏻 It seems like MCAU is jumping the shark. A TikTok star as a guest judge. A microwave immunity challenge. Another TikTok sensation to appear next week. Is MCAU scraping the bottom of the barrel for rating? 1 Link to comment

Mellowyellow May 23 Share May 23 Maybe they need to pay for the extra judge plus blew their budget on Jamie so we’re getting lots of tiktok stars! 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 23 Share May 23 Let’s not forget, they need to save up for… Spoiler the Hong Kong trip. ✈️ Requires a budget for at least 10 pax (judges & contestants) plus prod crews. Link to comment
