katisha May 12 Share May 12 It never ceases to amaze me how much hysteria seems to be generated by the 1-inch cube taste test. It's on every season so you'd have to be prepared for it to show up at some stage. Also - admittedly, this MAY be a minor point 😉- surely people who plan to make cooking and food their life should be able to identify food items by smell, feel and taste! Where I don't think the test is very fair and could easily be rigged is that I'd say it would be a lot harder to identify a bland grain like rice or oats than it would be to identify licorice, and yet those were presented to different contestants in the same round of the taste test. And yet Lily, who got licorice, ended up in the bottom six anyway. Speaking of Lily, thank God she's gone. As an Australian I don't like to resort to well-worn stereotypes such as "whinging Pom" but, Lily, if the shoe fits... Her anxious personality and complaints weren't particularly endearing. And in what universe did she ever think that chicken with a sauce and a couple of leeks was going to be worthy of that challenge, anyway? When Mimi was plating up her porridge someone in the gantry (maybe Aussie Ivanka) said, "That looks sick, Mimi." I think she meant it looked LIKE sick, as in 🤮! I mean, don't get me wrong, I love porridge, but it's not because it looks appetising! Also, I don't know why but Mimi just continues to rub me up the wrong way. Good on Steve for having the cojones to do something pretty radical for that elimination round and obviously it paid off handsomely. Maybe Juan needs to take a leaf out of his book. Also, I just had a quick look but couldn't find any information about Juan having been on an Argentinian version of Popstars! I'm wondering where the hamsters are going for the next couple of days? Snazzy Daisy May 12 Share May 12 S16•E13 - Tiny Food Titanic Challenge Sumeet has been in almost every eliminations. It must be exhausting. The look on her face when other contestants can guess correctly while she can’t get the pumpkin right. 😆 David excels in this tiny cube test. He even uses his hearing skill to identify the ingredients. The preview and editing have led us to worry about Steve when in fact he’s doing OK in round 2. It’s actually not fun watching Steve in the kitchen, he’s too serious and sometimes a bit moody. In the first week, Juan seems like a front runner but now he’s a bit behind. Simple homey foods are no longer enough. Am surprised with Josh C in this elimination round. With no herbs and spices, he still can cook a big bowl of punchy bisque. He’s adaptable. MIMI: “It’s quite deviant. This is what happened when oats get its villain arc.” I didn’t know Mimi can be funny. Obviously she’s a go-getter. Her fierceness, words and mannerism sometimes don’t translate well on screen. She’s still in my “most annoying” list but the judges seem to like her and her foods. Am actually quite satisfied with all the contestants that have been eliminated so far. Annoying people be gone! 🤣 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 13 Share May 13 Huh? Why is Sofia standing with her legs apart just like Andy??! 😳 @katisha Another low-cut maxi dress for Poh. 🙈 1 Link to comment

Snazzy Daisy May 13 Share May 13 S16•E14 - Bendigo’s French Mystery Box Based on the spoiler from the preview, we know who won’t be going home tomorrow. 🙄 It’s a weird timing for Harry to get married in the middle of filming. The couple must have planned it much earlier before Harry being accepted into MCAU. Sumeet feels confident because she has a few French tricks up her sleeve. If JC doesn’t say anything, will Sumeet realize that her crème pat split? JC is saving her from wearing a black apron again. Sav makes a Sri Lankan dish from French ingredients. When can she branch out to other types of cuisine? They still have not given Sue (the eggplant beater) enough screen time for her backstory despite doing well in today’s challenge. Andy gets the mussel beard. Of course he is. Such a magnet. 🙄 Gillian should’ve concentrated on perfecting her dish instead of wasting time making her own butter. An avoidable mistake. 🤦🏻♀️ At this point, am so tired of the fake “Steve in trouble” edits. It’s getting repetitive. The music when he’s presenting his dish is overly dramatic. Everything is overdone. Some of the contestants have pushed their boundaries today - David, Juan, Steve, Harry, Sumeet etc. By looking at the good dishes that they have presented, I still wonder how a contestant with limited range and lack of creativity like Brent Draper can win S15. 🤦🏻♀️ Link to comment

Maniacally grinning Alex is my choice tonight! 2 hours ago, Snazzy Daisy said: At this point, am so tired of the fake “Steve in trouble” edits. It’s getting repetitive. It's a very obvious "old dude does good" edit and an important part seems to be the judges coming up to his bench every time to say, "You're making WHAT?!!!" I'm sure that would shatter my confidence every time if I were in his shoes! Enough already! 1 Link to comment

She just HAD to pick tonight to actually get her shit together and do well for once, didn't she! Meanwhile, this will sound mean but Nat often comes across as rather arrogant so I found it rather "schadenfreudelicious" when she left off her chicken skin! I've been thinking about whether Aussie Ivanka would have any right to feel a bit miffed for being booted instead of Gill when Gill was missing so many things from her dish, but then I decided I would rather have a dish with less things which are well cooked than a dish with more things, at least one of which is actually inedible (the solidified, jelly-like gravy). Bring on the chaos of the relay challenge! I can see that if certain contestants are put in the same team when they're not even close to being on the same page cooking wise, it's going to be a bit of a disaster so what's the betting they "randomly" do end up on the same team! 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 14 Share May 14 S16•E15 - Liam Downes’ Pressure Test Black Cat Truffles - a beautiful venue. WTF is Andy wearing? 😳 How do you cut yourself making dough? Twice? Should wear a glove after that first cut, Alex! I feel so uncomfortable just by looking at her long sleeves. She puts up a bang-on dish after all the troubles. DAMMIT‼️ It’s good to be judges’ favorite. They are quite forgiving towards Nat despite the missing crispy chicken skin because she nails the sauce. I guess it won’t matter much when Gillian puts up only half a dish. 🙄 Lourdes has really screwed up most her elements - a cooked yolk, jelly-like sauce, not enough smoky flavor in the egg yolk, rubbery chicken skin, not enough fillings & truffles. GILL: “This is my jam, work of art with eggs, pasta, truffles, that’s me.” As soon as Gillian says this, am sure she’s going to screw up. Three elements are missing from her dish - asparagus, truffles and crispy chicken skin. The other elements that she plates up, they are decent. For me, the judges have made a right decision. Lourdes doesn’t nail the critical pressure point - the egg yolk in her raviolo doesn’t ooze. She went from winning an immunity last week to going home this week. Bye bye Aussie Ivanka! 👋🏻 1 Link to comment

And that's fine as long as it doesn't become unfair favouritism. But judges are human so these things will happen. 🤷♀️ But Nat needs to lose those bloody bows! 1 Link to comment

This level of connection reminds me of what Melissa had with Tommy Pham. She hugged him every time he put up delicious dishes. Then the gentlemen eliminated him when she wasn't around. Same goes to the connection between Jock and Brent over mental health issues. This year, JC seems to have soft spots for Steve and Sumeet. I cannot tell with Sofia and Andy. But Sofia tends to be a bit flirty around Harry and Juan. 1 hour ago, katisha said: But Nat needs to lose those bloody bows! Yeah, that Daisy Duck ribbon has got to go. Does she think it's cute and can make her stand out? 🙄 Edited May 15 by Snazzy Daisy 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 15 Share May 15 Am rooting for Red Team and Grey Team for obvious reason! Go Lochy! Go Harry! Be chaotic... 🤣🤣🤣 1 Link to comment
katisha May 15 Author Share May 15 (edited) Oh, Harry. You are usually SO calm and collected but today I think your brain fart probably cost your team immunity on Sunday. It won't be the first time someone forgets to mention the key ingredient in a team relay and it won't be the last - I just didn't think Harry would be the one to slip up! And it's only by good luck that David saw those half-prepped tomatoes lying around and decided to do something with them, otherwise the Grey Team might not have had ANY tomato in the dish whatsoever! I am not unhappy that Blue won per se except annoying Alex was in that team and I was hoping she would go sooner rather than later, but instead we are stuck with her for a few days longer (hopefully that's all it is). I'm not sure what hair ornamentation is worse, Nat - the diaphanous scarf festoons you had yesterday or the little schoolgirl ribbons from today. You're 28, not 8! And speaking of wardrobe malfunctions, the only judge I think we can rely on to look stylish and chic at all times is the dapper Jean-Christophe. I either love what Poh wears or I LOATHE it. It's hard to believe someone actually takes "credit" for dressing Andy (I've seen it in the closing titles) but they seem to go out of their way to make him look awful. And Sofia is very much in the same category as Poh. She either looks completely stunning or as though she is wearing clothes four sizes too big (maybe for tastings when she eats a bit more? 🤣) Whatever happens on Sunday, I'm glad Luke Nguyen will be there. I once actually met him at his restaurant at the casino in Brisbane when he was going around the tables asking how everyone enjoyed their food. I only realised it was him after he walked away. He was lovely! Edited May 15 by katisha Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 15 Share May 15 S16•E16 - Team Relay Challenge This year’s team relay challenge is pretty tame. No one has royally screwed up. BLUE - Congrats on winning the immunity. Judges’ advice about cooking the fish too early is a huge favor to the team. Josh C is good at taking instructions from his wife and continues to do so with Snez. Surprisingly, Pezza is actually good at filleting the red emperor. GREY - There’s always someone who forgets to mention the hero ingredient. Dammit Harry! Thankfully, David is smart enough to notice his surrounding and figure it out. If the guys manage to properly inform Sav & Sumeet about the tomatoes, the ladies will make it more prominent. But Harry deserves a credit for choosing the right theme and flavor profile for his team. RED - they don’t communicate about the flavor profile being developed in the pressure cooker. It’s like they’re going blind on the theme and flavor, resulted on non-cohesive elements on their plate. I laugh at Lochy going rogue, adding more chillies when they’re supposed to hero the heirloom tomatoes. GREEN - the most boring team with the most boring dish. “Heirloom-inous” pasta, really? 🙄 I don’t understand the online hates on Andy’s wide leg trousers. It’s very comfy and it looks better than skinny pants/jeans. Sofia’s culottes is also comfy. It’s weird when people say nothing about Poh wearing an unfinished dress. Based on Sunday’s preview, she’ll be wearing another fugly dress and Andy looks ridiculous in that salmon suit. 🤦🏻♀️ 1 Link to comment
