CM-BlueButterfly April 22 Share April 22 Quote “Sunny” stars Jones as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation” she’s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company. Though at first, Suzie resents Sunny’s attempts to fill the void in her life, gradually they develop an unexpected friendship. Together they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s family and become dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed. aghst June 13 Share June 13 (edited) Trailer: I've been waiting for this for over a year. I think they finished shooting like at the end of 2022 or something like that. The original description was that a widow gets a robot to help her get over her grief at the loss of her husband. But the trailer makes it about some potential foul play and Suzie is now trying to uncover a possible plot in the death or disappearance of her husband and son. I guess the hook of the mystery might give the season momentum whereas if it's about her just trying to cope and the robot helping or hindering that, it might be too heavy for a lot of viewers. In any event, we will see if Rashida Jones chose the script well. The creator is a first-timer, who previously wrote on The Affair and The Last Tycoon. Didn't see The Last Tycoon but The Affair writing credit may or may not be a good thing. That show caused a lot of eyerolls, hope it's not the case with this one. aghst July 13 Share July 13 More of a mystery than a dramedy so far. Seems like the main comic moments are from Sunny’s antics and it talking back at Suzie, snarking at her. Its very human like and I would dare say it has more of a personality than the human characters, with the things it says and that giant expressive face/screen. That secretive corporation with the mandatory exercises kind of felt like Lumon Industries in Severance. It’s not the main focus of the show but the technology depicted is very sci-fi. The way AI is hyped up these days, if they can make robots like Sunny, the company will dominate the world. That thing spoke naturally and like I said exhibited personality. And the thing dreams and can get high from hypnotic patterns on TV as well? So it’s the near future and there won’t be any Apple products despite being on Apple TV +. In fact that blue phone suzie uses kicks the ass out of any iPhone. In any event Sunny has AGI or maybe it will turn out that Masa programmed it to appear to have that personality. But Suzie also has visions and suspicions that there are killer robots! Link to comment
aghst July 17 Share July 17 Which is the best Sunny? Sarcastic Sunny? Awkward Sunny when she says if she was going to kill Suzie, she’d have already do it? Passive aggressive Sunny when she says there are only eggs for Suzie but not Mixxy, who’s trying to hook her up with the underworld of dark code for bots to make them have sex or kill? Then flings a packet of crickets at Mixxy? Or scared Sunny when she’s pushed to the ring for bot fight match? I guess Suzie warmed up to her and got her out from that fight before it began. But now she has more and more reasons to believe that Masa was involved in this world of illicit bot programming. 1 Link to comment

Suzie thinks Masa programmed Sunny because she did the gesture that Masa used to do all the time. She was about to keep Sunny shut down or return her until that gesture. But now Suzie sees how Masa taught their sun about sumo wrestling matches modeled after the robot fights at that Wanted night club. Seems like there are quite a number of things Suzie doesn't know about her late husband and the father of her only child. She also seems blasé about bots with personality. If they existed in real life, they'd be a pretty big deal. Not just the technical achievement but a lot of people would buy them because they'd want a BFF bot. Hell people project human traits on dogs and other pet animals, imagine a robot which specifically is designed to mimim human traits. 1 Link to comment

aghst July 22 Share July 22 Cool animation and music but seems familiar. Probably the people who created the sequence was "influenced" by similar graphics and theme in some other movie or show that they're liberally "quoting" here. Still like it, not skipping it so far. Link to comment
