AnimeMania July 21, 2023 Share July 21, 2023 Young Love is a 12 episode animated TV Series soon to be airing on Max based on the 2019 animated Oscar winning short film "Hair Love" by ex-NFL player Matthew A. Cherry about a Black father who tries to learn how to style his young daughter's hair. Hair Love was also turned into a children's picture book. The animated TV Series "Young Love" is about a young Black family where a father Stephen Young (Kid Cudi) and a mother Angela (Issa Rae) take care of their 6-year-old daughter, Zuri (Brooke Monroe Conway), and her pet cat, Rocky, in Chicago. Although hair care will be part of the story, careers, marriage, parenthood, social issues, and multi-generational dynamics, ageism, family, navigating the world as a child, and combating harmful stereotypes are also touched upon.
