AnimeMania March 23, 2023 Share March 23, 2023 Tiny Beautiful Things is an 8 (half-hour) Comedy TV Series releasing all it's episodes on April 7, 2023 on Hulu. The TV Series is based on a collection of essays "Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar" by Cheryl Strayed, and follows Clare, a floundering writer who becomes a revered advice columnist while her own life is falling apart. When we first meet Clare, her marriage to her husband Danny is barely limping along; her teenage daughter, Rae, is pushing her away; and her once-promising writing career is non-existent. So when an old writing pal asks her to take over as the advice columnist "Dear Sugar", she thinks she has no business giving anyone advice. After reluctantly taking on the mantle of Sugar however, Clare’s life unfurls in a complex fabric of memory, exploring her most pivotal moments from childhood through present day, and excavating the beauty, struggle, and humor in her unhealed wounds. Through Sugar, Clare forms a salve for her readers – and for herself – to show us that we are not beyond rescue, that our stories can ultimately save us. And, perhaps, bring us back home. Kathryn Hahn as Clare Kincade, an anonymous, revered advice columnist known as Sugar Quentin Plair as Danny Kinkade, a creative spirit and musician; bright and level-headed. He’s frustratedly in love with his wife Clare and at his wit’s end over her selfish and self-destructive antics. Pushed over the edge, he’s told her she needs to leave their house and join him in couples therapy to salvage their marriage and family unit. Tanzyn Crawford as Rae Kincade, the queer teenage daughter of a white mother, Clare, and a black father, Danny, in mid marital crisis. Uncomfortable in her own skin and often emotionally torn between her parents, Rae shows artistic leanings, though she’s an introvert of few words, just starting to develop her own opinions and making sense of who she is in the world. Margot Catherine Terry as Young Rae Kincade Owen Painter as Young Lucas, Clare's brother, whose life veers unexpectedly off-course after the devastating death of their mother, Frankie. Sarah Pidgeon as Young Clare, the younger version of the lead character, played by Hahn. Rebellious and sharp-tongued, she acts out irresponsibly after her mother’s death and endures a contentious but maternal relationship with her younger brother, Lucas. Merritt Wever as Frankie, the resilient and resourceful single mother of Clare and Lucas, whose belief in abundance over scarcity, and putting oneself in the way of beauty, transforms her children’s life of poverty and becomes a touchstone for Clare as she takes up the mantel of the anonymous, revered advice columnist, Sugar, in the present. Elizabeth Hinkler as Shan Richards Michaela Watkins as Amy, an emerging novelist and the decades-long best friend of Clare, whose decision to remain childless and pursue an artistic career has been shaped by a mother loss of her own — though a different kind than Clare’s. And while their friendship is very real, each serves as an in-her-face reminder of the lives they could have had, had they chosen different paths. Link to comment
