I have a question:

Will I need to watch 1883 or Yellowstone to understand anything by watching, or can I enjoy this all on its own?

I think you can probably enjoy this on its own, at its heart the storyline will be about a family and their determination to make a life for themselves in Montana.

Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren play the brother and sister-in-law of the patriarch on 1883 played by Tim McGraw.  It appears that his two nephews on the show are the now-adult sons of the Tim McGraw character.  One of these, named Spencer, we saw on 1883 proper, he was about 6 on 1883 so he'd be 46 here.  The other we only saw on a scene on Yellowstone proper which I think was set sometime in the 1890s, he was not on 1883.  This one is presumably named John Senior and becomes the grandfather of the Kevin Costner character on Yellowstone.  Essentially these are all new characters.

I would hope there should be some reference as to what happened to the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill characters from 1883.  They had to be at least 40, so I would presume they are dead by 1923.

I know people that watched 1883 that never watched Yellowstone.  And over on Yellowstone this season, they haven't even bothered to make any reference at all to the ancestors from 1883.  So even though these shows are part of the same universe, they are surprisingly not very much connected.

I think you could enjoy this on it's own. The female narrator is the ever annoying Elsa from 1883. Elsa was a Mary Sue type character who was able to become a great warrior and horse woman at a rather young age. I won't say more as it would be a spoiler but as she seems set to be the narrator for 1923 (cringe) I figured it would make sense to at least explain who you are hearing.

As technically the Yellowstone story is yet to happen within in this universe (Yellowstone being set in the current time) you can forget about that altogether.
