DanaK July 16, 2021 Share July 16, 2021 (edited) For discussion of the PBS POV series of documentaries POV has had a couple of interesting docs so far this month. The first one, "The Neutral Ground", broadcast on July 5, takes a look at the controversy of Confederate monuments by comic CJ Hunt. I have not finished that yet, but it's pretty interesting. The second, "Landfall", broadcast on July 12, looks at Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria hit and the capitalism vultures that descend and the residents have to take care of themselves when the government doesn't seem to be able to act. Some pretty eye-opening stuff and your heart go out to the people who suffer Some interesting docs upcoming this month: "Stateless" (July 19) looks at the tensions between Haiti and the Dominican Republic; "Mayor" (Jul 26) profiles the mayor of Ramallah in the West Bank of Palestine August: "Pier Kids" (Aug 2) profiles Black homeless queer and trans youth hanging out at Christopher Street, NYC for safety Edited July 16, 2021 by DanaK Link to comment

EtheltoTillie October 26, 2021 Share October 26, 2021 Not much action in this topic. I am watching last night's doc "Things We Dare Not Do," about the transgender teen in Mexico. I am so distracted by wanting to know more about the situation. How did the filmmaker come upon this subject? What does the family think they are being filmed for? Link to comment
EtheltoTillie October 26, 2021 Share October 26, 2021 Answering my own question. The filmmaker seems to have discovered the subject accidentally. Very moving film. I loved seeing the young children so free. https://thequeerreview.com/2020/06/14/exclusive-interview-mexican-lgbtq-documentary-things-we-dare-not-do-cosas-que-no-hacemos-filmmaker-bruno-santamaria/#more-12918 Link to comment

The camera was pointed at the ground most of the time and I was actually getting motion sick. Link to comment

I haven't seen it yet, but the filmmaker wanted to show things from his perspective but that doesn't take into account people with motion sickness Link to comment
janeta January 10, 2023 Share January 10, 2023 Yeah, it would have been one thing if he'd held the camera on his lap pointed forward more. That actually gave an interesting perspective for those of us who see the world from higher up. Oh well, I may take a crack at the second half sometime. Link to comment
