AnimeMania May 14 Share May 14 Lady in the Lake is based on a 2019 novel by the same name from Laura Lippman, which was inspired by two actual murders that occurred in Baltimore, in 1969, Shirley Lee Wigeon Parker became Cleo Sherwood in the book and Esther Lebowitz became Tessie Fine. Lady in the Lake tells the story of Madeline “Maddie” Schwartz, a Jewish housewife that leaves her husband and helps the Baltimore police investigate the disappearance of 11-year-old Tessie Fine on Thanksgiving Day, 1966. This lands Maddie a job with a newspaper, the Star. Another sensational story crosses her desk, Cleo Sherwood, a young black woman, whose body was found in the fountain of a lake in a city park, receives very little media coverage. Lady in the Lake tackles issues of religious discrimination, racism, and gender inequality. Link to comment

It tells the future of the series. Maddie’s looking at a human, and just seeing the dress, not seeing the person.” - Natalie Portman Quote Series writer/director Alma Har’el stresses the importance of the department store window encounter. AnimeMania September 1 Share September 1 ‘Lady in the Lake’ Boss on Not Being Open to Additional Seasons of Limited Series, Jean-Marc Vallée’s Role in Show’s Origin Article touches on many subjects. And I know that this is a limited series, but I feel like often we hear about shows that launch as a limited series, and then they do additional seasons. Would you be open to more seasons of this? No. This is a story that feels very complete to me. I feel like I’m honored that I got to, you know, the freedom that I got to do what we did with the book. I’m thankful to both Laura Lippman and Apple, that they allowed us to take such liberties, and I think we explored everything that there was to explore. Link to comment
