  1. The Democrat Party is in huge trouble.

They are behind 52-48 in the Senate.  They are behind over 35 seats in the House.

Republicans picked up three more Governors last Tuesday.

    And they lost the Presidency.

And here's an interesting item you may not know...

...the states with Dem Governors and a Dem legislature are only five.   Yep, I said five.

It might be one of the low points in history for that party.

    And it warms my heart.

Of course it was. All that change. About 90% of the same congressmen and senators put back in office. But you know what? Things might change if Trump is allowed free rein. You know, with him bringing in bigots who hate pretty much all minorities. If that's the kind of change you're looking for, I can see why you might be happy.

As long as liberals keep on with their nonsensical racist charges, they are never going to get anywhere.

I'm not racist, no one in my family is racist, none of my friends are and never saw any at any of the Republican events I've been to.  What is racist is accusing people of being racist who aren't.  Plus, I despise racism.

I did see racism during the campaign.  The BLM chanting let's burn white cops like bacon.  Didn't see a lot of liberals complaining about that.

But, I'm going to help you out and tell you our real complaint...

We didn't like Obama because he was a liberal.  We didn't like Hillary because she was a liberal.

We don't like the Dem Party because they espouse liberal policies.

    WE DON'T LIKE LIBERALISM.

    ...so ends the lesson.

One of the things that makes me so sad about this election is the proof that ideas and intellect are second to memes and impressions and "charisma." Gross.

But, fine. Let's use it. Let's figure out who can rally AND unite and worry about the details of policy later. The bench is awfully short right now, but there are bright spots still out there and we can dig for more. Let's tap the far left and the center for unity and stop bickering about ideals. We have to survive first.

I'm a long time Dem, but I'd happily unite with the Greens and the RINOS and form a new alliance that focuses on delivering change that people want and that really listens to the people it represents.

That's what this election was...change.  From the big gov't and liberal ideas that have plagued this country.

And what ideas did Hillary have?

Basically, her campaign was higher taxes, socialized medicine, a big gov't and Trump sucks.  Not exactly and uplifting message.

All the ideas were on Trump's side, but the LW media didn't want to talk about them because they knew Hillary had none.

This comment may have been in jest, but the Guardian had an op-ed the other day about why the Right always comes up with the best slogans. These little soundbites can, and have, influenced elections. In this case, I do think that 'make America great again' and 'drain the swamp' had an impact. A simple message, short words, punchy. We can mock people for being drawn in by it, but it did happen.

The left needs to find a simple, catchy, unifying call to arms, and they need to make it take hold in the national (and international) consciousness.

How about "Up with Socialism?"  That should bring in the votes.

  3. Hillary Clinton is one of the sleaziest politicians we have ever seen.

She used her personal server for gov't emails and then lied about.  How many did she delete and why?

The wikileaks emails proved that she is that witch we always thought she was.

She conspired with groups to cause violence at Trump rallies and all with her blessing.

She conspired to deny Sanders the nomination.

And you can be sure these manufactured protests going on now are with her blessing.

Thanks God we are done with her and the national nightmare of the Clinton's is done.

Next stop...maybe jail...but maybe Obama will pardon her.

Fox Network is a vile insult to our intelligence and people watch that shit-show either for titillation, morbid curiosity or validation of their hate. The best way to eliminate such right wing so-called 'news' networks is simply to ignore it, stay off the network as a viewer. When viewer numbers diminish, they'll have a deep shake-up and chop off some heads.

Actually, it's the leftwing elite liberal media that is an affront to common sense.  While Wikileaks emails were leaking and showing that Hillary is the witch we always thought she was, they ignored the story.  Fox is the only one that reported it.  The LW was absorbed in the phony Trump women.

The LW elite media reported how Hillary would win in a landslide.

They got that wrong and just about everything else, just like most liberals.

  5. I liked the ep, but I have a big quibble.

Why not just arm everyone and just go to blasting when they showed up?

Would they die?  Maybe.  But, they would have the tactical advantage.

In this situation, better to die than to basically live as slaves

And Neegan's we take half, just meant we take whatever we want.

That is no life.  Better just to pack up and leave.

  6. It seems the Democrat Party is reeling.  Don't control the Governorships, the Senate, the House and now the White House.

And the bench for the next election is laughable.

Warren?  Oh my.  Sanders?  Will he even be alive?

Two terms of Trump is soundly like a reality.

Liberals out of power.  Sounds like fun.

Nope, you change the rules, you change the campaign.  There is no guarantee Hillary would have won in that scenario.

States being cognizant is not the point.  Candidates would never go to the small states.  At least with this system, that changes over time.    You want California, Texas, Illinois and New York dominating the campaign.  Why?

Frank is just the worst cop ever.  He sees a potential serial killer and instead of quietly getting the tag numbers and then sneaking up on the guy, he gets out of the car and starts walking toward him, giving him plenty of time to escape.

This is becoming a trope on all television.  The cops give the bad guy a chance to run by alerting him of their presence before they can apprehend him.  Why not walk up to the truck and confront him?  It's just lazy writing.

Not really that much of a difference.  It's the same outcome.

I don't think I agree.  Most of the moaning and whining (mine included) is not about the outcome.  Its about the execution of the finale and premiere and the weak ass plotting and momentum killing stalling, monologues, and flashbacks/fantasies.

So let's say that they kill Abraham and go to black on Daryl's outburst in the finale.  The following goes differently

    - They just took out the character that is arguably one of the most prominent outside of the Atlanta 5.

    - This requires them to cut a chunk of the endless boxing in of the RV and Negan's monologue and some of the gimmicky camera work

    - The producers don't end up in a live "your finale sucks" Talking Dead.  And really a finale has to suck a lot for the producers to get enough information during commercial breaks to feel like they must address it live on national television before the West Coast has even seen the whole finale.  They've got a dead/former cast member on the couch.  The air is taken out of the argument that the whole finale is a pointless stall for a Negan introduction, momentum ruining cliffhanger

    - Now everyone still probably thinks Glenn would die in the premiere.  But at least the irritation with the finale is tempered by the fact that something happened.  There is likely discussion over the break of  Abraham's last words, some discussion of whether they would really kill another character or maybe more than one more, a little heightened concern that if they killed Abraham then the premiere would have to up the ante to Atlanta 5 or Maggie.

So then we get to the premiere

    - And the stall to the reveal is less annoying because they haven't held everything back for months

    - The beaten blood pile has more of an emotional impact because maybe that is Abe rather than cheap shock tactic.

-There has to be a limit to the stalling and monologues so maybe moving part of the action to the finale forces them to put in another plot point that turns into something substantial enough that they cut some of the gratuitous fantasies  Or maybe its worse.

That was just a subjective look at it and you are just rearranging scenes.  Doesn't make "that much" of a difference.

17 million people watched the episode.  I think the audience has spoken.

Actually, given that they killed off two characters they could have killed off Abe at the end of season 6 (ending either with Daryl lashing out and a cliffhanger on what happens next or with Abe getting the last word in) and then surprised the audience with Glenn at the start of season 7.

I wonder how that would have gone over.

Not really that much of a difference.  It's the same outcome.

I was bored with Neegan by about 7 minutes in. The actor is great though. Like everyone else on the show I'm just not seeing much strategic thinking. I don't know why I'm surprised though. I get the point about killing someone in the group, but I would think you'd want more able bodies to do your work. So he offed two really valuable people. I could see chopping off a few fingers would still prove the point. At this point though, I feel like we're seeing the same character types over and over.

Overly talking isn't that bad, but the whole putting on his little show just dragged. It would be interesting if this season someone grew a brain and they plotted to him out.

I think AL also really brought it in this episode.

It's not fair to the show either, but all the ridiculous, incredulous hype leading up to the season turns me off.

It's the number one show on cable TV.  It's expected.

My problem with the show was last season's Neegan build up over many episode for him to appear at the last minute. I asked the question here and was told that Neegan was not introduced that way in the comics. While comic readers were excited, non-readers felt continuous anvils.

Why couldn't Abe be bashed at the end of last season? I liked the guy and would have mourned his loss in between seasons. The clip of Rick saying I'm going to kill you could have been the cliffhanger. You think fans wouldn't want to see what Rick had up his sleeve? How Abe's death effects the group? The breaking of Rick would have been just as poignant and the bashing of Glenn would have been even more so.  The unnecessary way the story was split was not about storytelling. It was playing games and I think it backfired.

I disagree.  I think it was about creating a cliffhanger.   Either way, it wouldn't have changed that much, certainly not in any great way.  It was all everyone talked about during the offseason, so it worked.

I guess I'm in the small minority that feels gutted by this episode and thinks JDM did an outstanding job (second best villian would go to Gareth for me). I think the Governor would have been more effective had more of his people knew what he was. But most of those idiots were in the dark which just made him more of a joke than a villian.

I want to see them get the best of the Saviors and I'm hoping when the people of Alexandria find out what happened the change in the dynamic will make for good TV. They already hate Rick and this is certainly not going to get him voted homecoming king.

I'm with you.  I thought it was an outstanding episode.   Very graphic and dark,  but very Walking Dead.

Negan and Rick were great and the part with Carl's arm was gut wrenching.

Have you ever seen a group of people like ours at the end of episode look so beaten?

I think we are in for a very good season and I expect the ratings to be really good.

Barack Obama has been a gentleman as president, in the best sense of that word.  His repeated attempts to reach across the aisle, to find mutual agreement on the issues confronting our nation, have been met with contempt and vile personal attacks.  It is my belief that the majority of Americans want our politicians to work together and treat each other with respect.  I believe that Pres. Obama's efforts to do so was one of the factors in his re-election, and if the Constitution (and Michelle Obama!) permitted it, I think he would easily win a third term.

I don't think so.  American is tired of Obama.  He did win, but barely beat Romney,  1% of total vote in key states.

He has been a failure and hasn't accomplished anything, but made matters worse.  21 trillion.  I notice no one wants to comment on that.  How much more debt do you want?

I love him I love his family I love how much he loves sports I love all of it.

I don't have all these political stats and facts, I only have what I feel.

He is smarter than his predecessor.  Which matters even if my cat is also smarter than his predecessor.

    He is witty.

    Gas is cheaper now.

He didn't lie to get us into a war his daddy couldn't finish.

His VP is not a terrifying warmonger who shoots his friends in the face.

While he did change his mind from what he had said as a senator, marriage equality hit the SC docket in his term and he agreed to put rainbow lights on the White House.

He was graceful in the face of near constant opposition from the Republican Party who would disagree with him if he said water was wet.

For the past year I have lamented that we can't get an emergency amendment through allowing him a third term.

I would vote for that man for anything he ever decided to run for.

Obama was the smarmiest, most arrogant community organizer President of my lifetime.  He has contempt for those who disagree with him and never had any intention of ever working with Republicans.  Of course, compromise with liberals is agreeing with them.

  17. Not quite sure how Pres. Obama "divided the races for political gain."  If by having policies that that attracted the votes of minority Americans when the Republicans did not, then OK, I guess the races were divided to his benefit.

Well, let me help you out on that.

On Ferguson and all these racial situations he always spoke up and immediately thought the worst of the white cops.  Of course, we know in Ferguson the cop was in the right and this happened in other situations.  He never apologized nor tried to temper the riots and disinformation that went on.  And why?  Because liberals need to keep that issue of racism alive to make sure they get the black vote in this election.  Dividing the races for political gain.   And by the way, Hillary did it too.

And the policies of Obama don't attract blacks.  Blacks are mostly liberal in this country.  It's like saying how come Obama can't attract the votes of the people of Idaho.  Well, because it's a very conservative state.

A few of his accomplishments from Washington Monthly:

Repealed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”: Ended 1990s-era restriction and formalized new policy allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military for the first time.

From 2008 to 2011, favorable opinion toward the United States rose in ten of fifteen countries surveyed by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, with an average increase of 26 percent.

With so many soldiers coming home from Iraq and Iran with serious physical and mental health problems, yet facing long waits for services, increased 2010 Department of Veterans Affairs budget by 16 percent and 2011 budget by 10 percent. Also signed new GI bill offering $78 billion in tuition assistance over a decade, and provided multiple tax credits to encourage businesses to hire veterans.

Signed Hate Crimes Prevention Act (2009), which expands existing hate crime protections to include crimes based on a victim’s sexual orientation, gender, or disability, in addition to race, color, religion, or national origin.

"However, it's a little misleading to hold Obama (or any other President) accountable for the deficit incurred during his first year of office.

That's because the federal budget for that fiscal year was already set by the prior Administration. President Bush's last budget (FY 2009) created a deficit of $1.16 trillion after subtracting the spending on the Economic Stimulus Act. Most of this addition to the debt occurred after the new President took office, and so should not be attributed to Obama." (The Balance, 2016)

That's some sad accomplishments.  And I didn't mention the deficit.  I mentioned the debt.

When you have to mention that some countries may have liked us more, you have a failure as President.
