  1. I fell into this show by sheer accident

Living up to your screen name!

I liked this one too, and it did change up the format somewhat. I can see Ethan grating in the future, and agree with everyone about the dad, but so far it's all working well.

I do wish that Deb had more to do, but actually, the tvdb description has a subplot about Deb that was apparently cut (and doesn't mention the whole Ray Donovan plot):

Convinced that the only explanation for Claire’s non-interest in him is that she’s a mole, Dean tells Stewart that Claire is sharing secrets with a rival firm. Although Stewart dismisses the accusation, Dean is set on proving his brother wrong. Meanwhile, Deb and Claire strike up a friendship, the gossipy nature of which propels Stewart to question whether Claire can be trusted after all.

  2. Yeah, it takes a lot for me to notice age difference romances anymore (hello, Hollywood), but this one was glaring. IMdB says Rob Lowe was born in 1964, and while it lists no birthdate for Natalie Morales, I'm pretty sure he could be her father. Or, as in the show before this one, even her grandfather.

Wikipedia says Natalie Morales was born in 85. 51 to 30 is pretty big, though of course not unheard of.

  3. It would be really ballsy if Quinn went ahead and carried out the assassination, and the rest of the series was the fall out from that.

That would be kind of amazing, but then again this is the show that kept Brody around for season 2 and 3....
  4. Yep! I mentioned playing the first episode on the modern consoles thread back in January. The dialogue is sometimes a little clunky (and the dialogue animations are uniformly horrible – in later episodes I think they've realized this and don't put the characters' mouths in frame while talking as much anymore), and it can sometimes veer a little into the melodramatic, but I'm so sold on the characters and the aesthetic that the flaws just make me love it even more. Very excited for ep 5 next week.

  5. I didn't think of that. I'll check to see if I've hit some button and turned it off. I've been known to do that kind of thing, haha.

On my Paperwhite, you can make it show up either by tapping on the bottom of the screen (easy to do by accident and turn off...) or in the menu under "Reading Progress."

  6. Kronm, yeah, the lack of typographic niceties really hits you when it's so big. You can adjust the line spacing to get another line on there, but it's really not an acceptable size to read at. Apparently there's now hyphenation in some books, and not all books are forced to be fully justified either, but the book I was reading didn't have those niceties.

You know one thing I don't like about my Kindle? When there are no page numbers or any way of tracking where you're at in the book.

I've had two Kindles; the old one had an always-on progress bar at the bottom, and the new one (pictured above) has an optional page number / time left in chapter / time left in book and percentage at the bottom, which you can cycle through by tapping on the bottom.

  7. Here's the largest font size on my this-year's Paperwhite, next to a regular paperback for reference:

The letters get pretty big, but you'd need a lot of page flips.

  8. I STILL don't get how that hack happened. How did those two jerks accidentally hack into the CIA website?

The jerks were hacked into the ISIS webserver, and they saw that someone else was too. They checked out who it was, saw that the other person had a government address and a hackable router, and then started downloading crap.

  9. Well, y'all heroes will find out soon that you made a mistake...but really, it's okay. I've been on quiet mode for the forums in general for a while, and am about to be traveling for almost all of July so was thinking about ways to try not to disrupt the game doing that....

But @Dougal seems to travel a lot overall, and I find that he seems to claim it just a bit more when he's an evil doer...

I've been traveling a fair amount lately, and have been an evil-doer once lately. Correlation ≠ causation, as I should especially know since I can provide proof of most of my travel being to statistics conferences.... :p

I'll be back for either the next game or the one after that, and will try to be more involved then.

  10. I haven't had a chance to really catch up yet, so this is purely a keeping-it-open nonsense vote. Most likely situation is that I come in tomorrow and switch to Lisin, but we'll see.

6 to DL Lisin (Oinky Boinky, Drogo, Jesse, aquarian1, Athena, stacey), 2 to end this round, but hoping we get some more conversation going first!

1 to DL Oinky Boinky (Lisin) 7 to make it happen

1 to DL Dougal (Dougal) 7 to confuse everyone with the threat of suicide long enough to get a read on the situation

  11. (As mentioned earlier, I've been in insane deadline mode, but that deadline was a few hours ago. I finally got around to rewatching the movie a few hours ago, and wow am I glad I did.)

I really don't buy the toga / Hera clues; seems completely like coincidence to me. Sorry, Drogo. That said, though Hera is more connected to Athena than Calypso, Calypso and Hera are cousins. Not that that means anything anyway.

I'm also wary about killing TMunz off so early again on what feels like something pretty sketchy. Rather than close it out just yet I'll come back tomorrow and look at everything more thoroughly with less sleep-deprived eyes.

  12. Have we had one of those with a four-word gap? I'm a little skeptical....

I don't see anything convincing, and I'm really pretty skeptical of the day-one random DL. I went for it last time because I was a villain and there was a good fake clue (sorry CP); as a hero, it really just doesn't make sense to me.

  13. So, just for the record, the night when egavasc was killed? I sent a PM to the mods protecting her, then changed my stupid mind and edited it because I thought she was safe and wanted the option of protecting her the next night if a clue came out. So dumb. :/

(Such a fun game; good times, y'all.)

  14. On the entomology section of the Calypso wiki page, it said that one of the possible meanings was "wily."

Now that I'm a ghost: whoooo, spooky Calypso bugs!

Entomology (from Greek ἔντομος, entomos, "that which is cut in pieces or engraved/segmented", hence "insect"; and -λογία, -logia) is the scientific study of insects, a branch of arthropodology.

  15. Sure, a few of the "6,300 native plants" of California have Douglas in their name.

An equal number are Island Coral Bells, Canyon Coral Bells, or Hairy Purple Bells, which makes me think of Machiabelly – plus several varieties of umbellularia, which is known both as the California laurel and the Oregon myrtle.

There's also Canyon Silver, Silver Lining, Silver Carpet, and Silver Bush Lupine on this list.

Juniperus californica's initials sound a lot like JayKay.

    Also,

The carnage had let the California native heal some of the mental wounds suffered at the hands of HYDRA.

If you look up medicinal plants native to California, "Oregon Grape" is one of them, which connects back to that wine....

The thing about these kinds of clues is that, if you allow big enough steps, you can connect anything to anyone....
