  1. To me, this is an obvious set-up for later when Ketch has his hands bloody and invites Dean to join in only for Dean to make a big speech about how he is not like that at all because he cares about saving people and justice! So take that, Ketch!

  2. Still waiting for Sam's version of In My Time of Dying or What is and What should Be where the focus is strictly on exploring Sam's feelings about family, future, hunting, dying, etc.  I want more episodes where Sam's feelings are at the forefront, not Dean's.
Always it is Dean making the mission statement, making the big speech, giving the 'approval' to a scheme. If he doesn't, I know Sam will end up on the wrong side or failing again. Always Dean is the one who is more affected by this and that.

By all means, both Winchesters should be badass in every single episode. I am way tired of Sam being tied to a chair and needing to be rescued by Dean. That's how he earned his Samsel nickname.

  3. Loved the opening Sam, Dean and Mary argument. Good that Dean got to unload on Mary but again, I wish Sam's support hadn't been so silent. You would think he's got things to unload as well. Sam's face spoke volumes though and really showed his shock and disappointment.

I cannot understand why he continues to be so understanding and patient with Mary and Mary, would it kill you to be on crust- cutting sandwich mode for Sam who really needs it? Mary saying she's not just a mum - she hasn't been any kind of mum at all since she returned from heaven. It's not like she's been fussing and cooking over her boys and is now taking me-time to do other things.

Guilt is driving Mary. She must know she betrayed Sam before he was even born and because of that, both Sam and Dean had crappy childhoods and Sam couldn't get his normal life. She's desperately trying to fix things for Sam and Dean so I can't blame her for that.  I know she does love her sons but she feels this is the best way to show that and make up for the past.

Speaking of the past, I am waiting for Sam to unload about Mary's YED deal that ruined his life. I hope he has not forgiven her for that. Sam's face was heartbreaking when he found Mary lied about the Colt yet he kept silent.

However, I understand that he can't just wash his hands off her and leave her to enter a spider's trap alone. He's trying to look out for her and if he hadn't been there at the BMol lair, Mary would have been dead.

Mary was good at manipulating Sam though. Just give Sam a glimmer of hope or an end game, and he's off. He's always been ambitious like that. He never wanted a future where he and Dean die young and bloody.

Loved to see Sam being badass, smart, cool, decisive and in take-charge mode. Don't understand the super!Sam jibes. Is he supposed to spend every episode being tied to a chair and knocked unconscious, being rescued by Dean and guest stars? Is he never allowed to kill big bad villains? It was good for me to see Sam being a leader.

  4. Dean's had plenty of space. Mary is hardly ever around and it's not like he's tied to Sam. At least if Dean leaves, Sam can take a break from being peacemaker. He is in a dilemma too being forced to pick a side.  I know the BMol is bad news but Sam probably doesn't want to leave Mary on her own.

Kind of tired of them sending Dean off to disappear for half the episode.

Dean always had more screen time than Sam and this time it was due to baby reasons. I'm sure Sam will be the one disappearing later on due to baby.

Why shouldn't Sam get a big kill once in a while? Nobody said anything crude about sexual favours when Dean killed Azazel, Hitler and the others.

  6. I still feel they spend too much time talking about one look and arguing when others don't agree. Just move on, please. I'm not interested in the after party looks.  They did focus on the jewellery but only to play that silly game of 'which one costs more?'.

  7. Did I hear Sam say in that clip he is also pissed and angry? Because he sure hasn't been showing any of that. I hope when things go south with Mary, he finally gets the chance to express all that anger and hit the roof.. Sam has been broken and betrayed by so many people that I don't know what Mary's actions are going to do to him. I don't know why he is so trusting either.

And can Sam please stop playing peacemaker? It's really dull to watch. I'd rather he focuses more on his own feelings than trying to keep the peace.

  8. It's been a long time since Sam holds it against anybody, for better or for worse.  He forgives instantly nowadays (unfortunately) and has no problem being forced to work with enemies. It looks like it's heading down the 'Sam misguided, Dean voice of reason' track.

  9. I don't see Sam's remark as a dig at Dean anymore then Dean's remarks in the past when he tried to downplay Sam's rightful anger at John was a dig at Sam.

Not sure about John usurping Dean's identity. They both loved to hunt and shared the same goals. Sam was the odd man out and I'm glad he had the courage to rebel. Wish he could do the same with Mary.

Finally, Sam is allowed to express some understated disappointment with Mary. If he hadn't said that, I would have thought he was on tranquilizers. He does have feelings, yay!

As for the rest, I am not interested in the Rowena/Crowley'Gavin family business. And it feels like the whole Lucifer baby angle has nothing to do with the Winchesters. So I don't care.

  10. The final scene reminded me of that one in that dijn episode. Both times. Dean had the chance to forget about his problems and retreat either into a fantasy world or blissful oblivion. Sam this time seemed a bit regretful he didn't have the luxury. He had to bear the burden of remembering in both episodes.  It's quite sad especially when you want to forget.

I have such a visceral loathing of that entire episode ... I hate that episode

I am shocked that you hate Swan Song! Positively shocked, I tell you! You've been so reticent about that episode which cannot be named ....

this episode should have gone equal heroes. The finale of the 5-season mytharc should not have been one-character-centric. Should not have been the Sam ep that it was. And should not have been a Dean ep either

I would have agreed absolutely 100% with you except for what happened before (season 4 finale). Were Sam and Dean seen as equal screw-ups? Did Dean release Lucifer? Did the season five opener have Sam castigating Dean for being tricked by the angels?  Sam needed that extra glory.

    Quote

They both fight their respective archangels down the pit

No thanks. Firstly, Dean had already been to hell. It would have been way overkill for him to go a second time. Secondly, how can you call it redemption for Sam when he pulls Dean into hell for more suffering? That would have been another big mistake for Sam. Thirdly, why should Dean fall into the hole with Sam? Sam didn't accompany Dean to hell the first time. He didn't follow Dean to purgatory.

early drafts ... Sam was right on every issue

Funny how when the show did start, Sam was wrong on every issue.

Now, could Dean have been given more to do in Swan Song? Sure, of course, just like Sam could have done more in the Amara finale.

I can't handle more Dean man pain myself. That's the problem with having Dean carry the emotional arc. Just like some have had enough of Sam/mytharc, I've had enough of Dean/emo.

    hero/zero

Going by that reasoning, I guess Sam was a zero in the Amara finale. He was too weak and pathetic to face Amara, huh? Dean saved the day, not familial love. So we're even now.

Sam never had the same nurturing mothering experience so it's not the same ... different expectations

All the more, Sam should be the one wanting Mary to hand him some nurturing pie or sandwiches. How exactly is Mary filling up the hole in his life when she is so distant? Differing expectations - it's like he has no expectations from her.  I know, I know, all the emotion is bubbling up inside and one day will burst out (I hope before the season is over)  but I do agree that we are in fanwank territory.

I never thought Dean was waiting for mommy to be Suzy Homemaker, I just took it as Dean worried about Mary's safety and Sam's remark as just shorthand for saying that can't be helped since Mary will insist on hunting anyway and won't dream of quitting and being safer at home.

  13. On thinking things over, just keep the titles as Moose and Squirrel. This maintains the light-hearted tone and they match. I don't want the title to be so super serious and worshipful.

This is not the new imdb so I don't want to bring in titles from there. Why should we change when the titles were never meant to be a serious description of either Sam or Dean anyway? They were more an inside joke.

I just want to say the titles were never meant to be about 'respect'. We respect both Sam and Dean here even if we have our favourites, OK?

I actually liked Moose (made me giggle) so Dean's title need to match this and be equally giggle-worthy.

  14. Maybe Dean understands that 'baking cookies' is just shorthand for 'conventional'. Many years ago, Hillary Clinton said she would never be the baking cookies type and several stay-at-home mums got on her case thinking she was insulting them. But I knew what she meant. She wasn't implying other women only baked cookies and did nothing else.

"Mom, I don't want you to run for President/climb Mount Everest/ be an aid worker in Afghanistan!"

"Look, son, I'm not the staying home baking cookies type!"

Sam was just saying Mary would never go for a conventional 9 to 5 safe job.  I doubt he thinks there are only two jobs Mary can do.

Puzzled also why Mary does not bother to contact Sam and why she seems so distant and disinterested in her sons. And I agree that Sam is unbelievably zen about everything. Is he allowed to get upset and angry like Dean? Is he allowed to have conflicted feelings about Mary or Cas?

  15. Dresses start to look the same to me after a while. I saw a Say Yes to the Dress spinoff about bigger brides and it's the same strapless look and same designs as seen on other shows. I don't want to fat shame those bigger brides but please, cover up those fat flabby batwing upper arms. Is there anything wrong with sleeves? Seriously.

Those bigger brides and their entourage will be oohing and ahhing over some strapless gown and it just looks like the bride wrapped her bedsheets around her body.

  16. Island for two, please. Judging from the comments on the youtube clip of Let's Have Intercourse, I'm not the only one who loves Nathaniel on the show. I think he does have genuine feelings for Rebecca but hides it under a layer of douchbaggery.  I find Nathaniel a refreshing change from the lineup of nice but somewhat needy wishy washy men on the show from Josh to Greg to Daryl to Scott.

I loved the intercourse song and wow, Rachel can really dance. Also loved the fifties vibe of the Devil Winds song and I heard the singer was really on Jersey Boys. He seemed to be enjoying himself.

A little goes a long way when it comes to the office staff, however. George can go now. Paula should not have taken Scott back. Everyone's made mistakes? Sorry, adultery is not an ordinary mistake.

    Stop the presses!

20 years in the newspaper business, I never heard that used (even on September 11) except as a joke or sarcastically.

The editors at your newspaper never make any mistake? I work for a newspaper and I've said it once or twice and my boss too. This is after finding we made some major mistake that we cannot allow to go to print.

  18. I don't mind  Giuliana, Brad and Melissa. At least, they go straight to the fashion critique. I thought G's floral gown at the live red carpet event was lovely. I can't stand Margaret always comparing gowns to private parts and Nene's 'girl, I'm looking at you' shtick. Tiresome and time wasting.

Instead of the stupid games, have interesting segments like 'Colour of the Night' or 'Best in Cutouts' or 'Best Cleavage/ Necklace/Hair'.
