  1. I was a bit confused on what exactly they were tracking back to the US Embassy (the dot on the screen). I thought the idea was to see who came out the fix the piggyback on the sniffer when it was turned off.

My assumption was that the Americans are trying to keep anyone from finding out about their piggyback on the sniffer, which is why the Palestinian was killed. Monica is for some reason working with the CIA as well.

While I love Stephen Rea and would happily watch a show centering on him and the rest of MI-6, I think the weak spot of this series is anyone with the last name of Stein. The whole soapy family dynamic seems at odds with the rest of the series.

  2. 25 C is not THAT warm, so I found the idea that Iain's Alaska was out of the freezer for less than a minute hard to believe, looking at how melted it was. However, his reaction was wrong - he should have just thrown it back in the freezer and served it more or less like Chetna did.

It did seem something was wonky with the freezers. Maybe people were opening and closing the doors too often. With the weather conditions, it seems to me the fairest thing would have been to add more time to allow things to freeze, although I guess than would penalize contestants who had better time management.

I'm also curious how they handled the baked Alaskas during the judging portion. Given what I would think would be the time to shoot, taste and judge, and then set up the next dessert, I'd think they'd all be puddles at the end.

  3. Catching up on this, I was surprised to see what Paul Hollywood displayed as his "perfect" ciabatta. It looked like a typical Italian loaf from my local supermarket. The "better" ones I see in the US are much flatter and have huge air holes inside. One of us has a mistaken idea about this bread.

I always wonder on this show how well they control the temperature in the tent. Between variables in temperature and the humidity from all that rain pouring down, the contestants have to find it difficult to adjust. Very different from working in a kitchen.

  4. On the silly nitpick front:

Baldwin Harbor is on Long Island. Bronxville is in Westchester County, and not on the water. Why would there be a Baldwn Harbor country club in Bronxville? Bronxville is a small town. No way it takes hubby 20 minutes to get from one address to another in Bronxville.

Also, if you're trying to trail someone, Grand Central Terminal is a terrible choice due to its multiple entrances and exits. but I guess it's a safe spot due to all the foot traffic and police.

  5. It bothers me in this show that it (seems) to revolve around an incident that happened to two main characters, yet the key facts of the incident are kept a secret from the audience. It smacks of manipulation to keep you watching the show, rather than serving any dramatic purpose.

  6. I thought the bread (not the pretzel) was overpriced for mass appeal - $6.25 a loaf? Plus, in a low carb era bread doesn't seem that popular. I think tough to make that into a big business unless they pick exactly the right location for the right clientele plus get into supplying restaurants.

The cones though seemed better suited to a stand at a state fair.

  7. Supposedly it was del Toro's idea for the hairpiece, because "that was the way he pictured the character"

Right hand drive on the car? Probably to show us the lead is a quirky independent guy who doesn't follow the rules and buys his cars from the UK.

  8. Hated everything about BBB, from the owners to the name to the concept to the outfits. Gee, what would a male waiter wear?

I will cut them a break on serving the restaurant from the food truck. You can't cook burgers for a restaurant off a small stove - was there even a grill? Expecting them to use a standard range was just stupid.

  9. Well, I thought, at least Audrey didn't have to see her husband executed for treason.

Didn't care for the ending. I agree the Jack in limbo has been overused in the past. I would have preferred a more upbeat ending, even if it left the future open.

  10. Jill's voice makes me want to puncture my eardrums. I could barely get through the episode. This is horrible but I was hoping one of the other contestants won so I wouldn't have to suffer through her Vocal Fry for another episode.

I guess you got your wish tonight!

I hate to criticize contestants' appearance, but her voice was driving me nuts. What was weird was how erratic the fry was. Sometimes she sounded normal, sometimes the entire response was "fried".

  11. I knew that FJ had to be a non European monarchy or dictatorship. I also knew the Saudi monarchy had bounced around a couple of brothers and went with that, although I would not have guessed there has not been a generational change since 1953.

  12. Salt Lake City newspaper says Bruce is an assistant coach at Orem High School, and that his father's conviction was for crimes against other children, not Bruce, which I guess was why they used "alleged". His father had lost multiple jobs and his teaching certification due to allegations of inappropriate contact in several states and was a recreational football coach when convicted. I can only think his wife had her head in the sand.

I liked this episode, but agree I would have liked to see more about how they dealt with therapy and eating issues, rather than working out and meeting his idols. dealing with eating issues is 80-90% of the problem and seems to be glossed over on this show.

  13. That was a very odd game -- all the wrong answers in the Jeopardy round, and yet another easy FJ (I thought it was easy, I yelled 'GM' at the TV almost immediately).

Loved Angie's game attitude -- she was playing to win, and it paid off with her DD wager, but she guessed wrong in FJ (though she wagered to win).

Congrats to Bryan on the come from behind victory, considering he was in negative numbers at the start of DJ.

Actually, Angie made a dumb FJ bet. She can't beat Troy, if both of them are right and Troy makes the bet he needs to make to keep her from winning. Bryan had less than half her total. So the right bet for her is zero, or at least a small enough number that Bryan doesn't pass her if he is right and she is wrong. She threw the game away.

  14. I'm still trying to figure out how no one heard the approach of x thousand horses until they were right on top of the camp...

I'm trying to figure how Stannis got his x thousand horses north of the Wall. All through that small tunnel?

  15. So why doesn't Lorne shoot Lester in the elevator? What's the point to waiting to try to track him down at home?

I also find it hard to believe Lorne would not check out Lester's car at the end. Lester also seemed a little too upset, given that he purposely set up his wife as a target.

  16. Despite some nitpicking, I'm really enjoying this season so far. I think the compressed timeframe helps, and I like taking the show off shore (I am a sucker for thrillers set in Europe, like the Bourne movies). It may also be that the break since the last iteration of 24 reinvigorated my interest.

I don't know how this is doing in the ratings, but I wonder if they might bring it back next year? Or is it just a one-off?

  17. It was odd how the first drone missile caused massive damage at the hospital, but all the subsequent ones fired at the car only had about a 10 foot wide circle of impact. Based on the latter ones, it's hard to see how the drones would be that much of a threat to the city.

Of course, if they had the impact of the first one, Jack would be lying in a pile of rubble.

  18. Haven't seen this show in years, but tuned in last night and it left me sort of disgusted with the Ty story. I find it impossible to believe that the producers didn't know the issues with the agent, which they found by googling? - before they ever put him on camera. Which means they set Ty up, probably hoping he would "overcome the crisis", but it backfired.

I also intensely disliked the trainer wife.
