  1. Brooks transformation was amazing! I really didn't have high hopes for him to be honest. Something seems off about Taryn, even in his update. Like he hasn't worked through everything or he's not buying into it. I worry for him when he gets home.

This was one of my favorite parts of the ep. Not just the sweetness of what they were saying, but also how they were jostling around for the camera.

The kids on this show are exceptional! I don't know if it is because they are used as students and we don't get deep dives into their personal lives, none seem to be main characters for more than one episode, or what, but they do such a great job just being kids. I loved seeing them bounce around at the end too. It was like they were talking about their real teacher.

  3. This was one of my favorites so far. I loved the exchange about 1/6 and Melissa's comment about his coma: "From falling off a wall?" I also loved the reveal of him being a flat earther. It was a quick comment that you might have missed at first with saying the "edge" of the earth, but the reactions of everyone listening who caught it right away were brilliant. I think all the core had some great moments this episode. I have been really busy lately and missed a lot of these episodes in real time, I think I watched 5 in a row yesterday and it just made me so happy. This show continues to be such a delight!

How do these mental health counselors keep their professional credentials? They provide sketchy advice at best. No legitimate mental health counselor, with a Ph.D., would appear on this reality tv show. M.D.'s can be sued for malpractice and loose their privileges to practice medicine, however I'm not sure what regulations a Ph.D. is required to follow.

You license to practice is separate from your credentials. You can be a Ph.D and not have a license. I have my M.Ed and my license to practice is an LPC. If I do something egregious I can have my license revoked but no one can ever take my degree from me. So it is entirely possibly that these people have a Ph.D but do not have an actual license to practice.

  5. I know I live in a low COL state, but either I didn't realize how low or Denver is insanely high. $4800 a month for a RENTAL? That's well over twice my mortgage and our house was a new build. That was a lot of yard they had for sure, but I had to rewind that and make sure I heard the price correctly.

And am I the only one worried Jake was having an actual seizure or stroke at tribal when he was struggling to find words, given his episodes shown in prior episodes?! Goodness.

Yes! I know dehydration and lack of food can mess with your head, but given his earlier problems I really thought something terrible was going to happen. Can medical step in even if people don't ask for it? I wondered that after the second time he passed out. It seems like they should, because something more serious might be happening than whatever he thinks it is.

I love how Corey laughs silently when he and Rob are joking in their interviews.

I noticed this last night more than before and it was delightful. I love these two! Can I find a way to hang out with them after the race? They seem like so much fun.

I agree.  And I was concerned about Matt being able to hear/understand.  I'd still like to learn how they are helping him to hear instructions, rules, etc. (if they are).

There is an article in the BB in the Media thread that talks about all the things thy did to give him an even playing field.

  9. I know the racial slur is bad, but I was equally horrified by what Luke said afterward, about how Jared should have him on the ground and be standing over him screaming or whatever. That was awful.

People do get couple’s massages on Valentine’s Day.  BUT- I doubt a spa would ONLY reserve space for them on that day, and not even take other customers.  It’s no skin off their back to take people individually.  It’s no gift to couples of the world to reserve the spa just for them, what do they care, they’re in a room?   If they took both Seema and Carrie, they would still need two therapists, all they would need to do is find an empty room for one.  Sure, that could be hard if you’ve booked the whole thing with couples, sure.  BUT- WHY DIDN’T EITHER SEEMA OR CARRIE SUGGEST THEY JUST DO THE COUPLE’S ONE?  It’s not like it’s sexual at all.  You’re literally just on a table next to someone else, you don’t hear or see them.  I’ve even seen movies where girlfriends do this, just for fun.  That could’ve been a funny scene. Instead, the whole couple’s thing was just used as a clumsy excuse to have Seema go on a rant about how life was so unfair for her as a single person.  Like, this is the LEAST of her problems.  I mean, i could see if they were giving a discount for couples and not offering a comparable one for Seema and Carrie.  That would be worth a rant.  But, no.  They couldn’t even think of that, these writers.

I didn't get the couples massage thing either. My husband and I have had two couples massages and honestly, we didn't speak to each other or have anything special happen other than we were both getting massages at the same time. There were rose petals with our initials on the floor. But there were still two therapists and they worked on us together. It's a massage, not an orgy.

  11. I think I'm repeating myself, but I've been watching Degrassi on Pluto and last night was the episodes about

    Spoiler

    Cam's suicide

And I cannot stress enough how well done I think those episodes were. The seemingly minor things that all just piled on top of each other that, when combined, led to his feelings was just so typical. It wasn't one big thing, it was a lot of smaller things. I still absolutely love that they never actually showed his body or the method of death. All the different reactions were also so varied and normalized. This show does things so well most of the time.

  12. Brayden isn't entirely wrong in that Charity is always "on" and it would be nice to spend time with her as Charity and not in these manufactured Bachelorette moments. But did he know what show he was signing up for? Because this is what you get. If he wanted to meet a woman in natural circumstances without any of this superficial fluff, he needs to go meet women in his real world. What a tool.

Carrie's brownstone layout looks the same to me, but I cannot figure out the decor. We saw it transformed into a lot of blue and white in the first movie, and some of that--the floral wallpaper in big blue turquoise flowers--remains, but the walls are mostly back to white, with mostly her old furniture and not much of the new stuff she had in the movie. I wonder what was behind that decision?

    According to this article https://graziamagazine.com/articles/carrie-bradshaw-shoes-season-two/

Carrie spent nearly 12 grand on her 'make me feel better' shoe haul. Most of which are gorgeous, if ridiculously expensive. But these? We saw her trying these on. I'm all for some whimsy but these are stupid.

I thought this was something she put in the shoe to stretch out the straps because they didn't fit her correctly, but she bought them anyway. Had no idea this was the actual design of the shoe.

  14. I remember that wedding dress that Nora made, and I, too, thought it was really pretty at the time. It was also expected, traditional, and basic. The technique with the flower petals inside of the mesh started appearing everywhere in flower girl dresses a few years later and it made me think of that dress, because it was really cute on little flower girls. There is absolutely a market for people who want a traditional princess cupcake wedding dress.

I remember really liking Laurence on her season, and seeing her back this season is great. She's just very cool without even trying to be. I'm fairly certain she is way too cool to ever want to hang out with me, but I would love to learn just a little bit of her attitude to emulate it.

It struck me watching this why I love Christian now and couldn't stand him in his season. Other than all the great press he gets for designing for plus sized women when no one else will, I think the confidence he has now is earned. When he was a 21 year old arrogant little shit who didn't listen to critique, it was annoying. But he has a supreme mount of confidence in himself and his ideas and he has proven that he has earned that.  I really loved him ordering Nora out of the silk aisle because he knew she was out of practice and would not be able to work with that fabric (not that what she ended up with was any better).

Overall, I'm glad this show is back in my life.

  15. My theory is that we are getting set up for some sort of a mental health crisis for Mariana. Several times it has been mentioned that she should talk to someone about her trauma and her stress is clearly at sky high levels. I'm cautiously looking forward to it, because this show (and the Fosters before this) have generally handled mental health well. Obviously things get solved more quickly than in the real world, but they don't shy away from things.

The amnesia thing bugs me. It's a tired trope and annoying and feels like they didn't know what else to do.

@circumvent I'm with you on the hair. I wondered if at the start it was just because she was living on a farm and maybe not always able to access showers and shampoo and the like, but seriously! Cult members can still have good hair!

What made the erasure of the brother characters decisive for me was that nobody said anything in-show about their absence.

But I also realized Sumi wasn't there, was she? Nobody mentioned that, either... or if they did, I didn't notice.

Alice had a line when she was talking about how all families fight at Thanksgiving and she said "Sumi is probably fighting with her family right now too!" or something along those lines.

Her admitting to having been a drunk who needed a drink before they could pull themselves together to function sounds pretty tragic to me.

I've been wondering about her DOC for a while now, did she specify that it was alcohol? I missed some of it. Unpopular opinion, but Carolyn bugs the shit out of me. I worked in substance abuse as a therapist for a long time and she reminds me of so many of the people I worked with. I know I am only seeing snippets of her on tv, but she really seems like a "dry drunk" where she is free from her substance but the behaviors are still there.

I recently rewatched one of his seasons (forget which one) and enjoyed him so much.  He just seemed so nice and real-he would help anyone with anything.  He will be missed tremendously by his community, family, and Survivor fans.

I'm rewatching Second Chances right now. He's such a good guy and seems really funny.  Sad to hear of his passing.

  19. AS far as why Lucas didn't go to Canada, maybe I'm stating the obvious here but moving is expensive. He has no ID so he can't get a passport and therefore can't get into that country either. They never specified where the aunt was, but I don't think he went to meet her, so maybe she lives in the LA area as well. Without an ID he can't do anything and he probably has to get a birth certificate in person so he can't even get into Canada to get it.

  20. I get so annoyed with the tv trope of "If I don't get a scholarship I can't go to college". You can. You take out student loans like the rest of us, and with the Conners situation being what it is, there's no way Mark doesn't qualify for a Pell grant. Student loans are not ideal, but they are there and almost everyone takes them. It would be great if the system didn't work that way but it does. And until it gets fixed, do some research on how to take out loans in a responsible way and apply for every scholarship you can get your hands on.

She definitely gives the vibes of "drugs fucked me up, but I got clean and now I help other people get off them." That 'my brain will never quite work the same' energy. Carolyn also flails like a muppet.

I worked in substance abuse counseling for 3 years. That tracks. Most people work in the field and their only qualification is "recovering addict". I felt pretty out of place with my history of "went to school for counseling". It's a weird field.
