  1. Also, at the end of each episode of Untucked they close with a text saying "X Queens remain" (substitute X for the number of Queens still competing).  And at the end of this episode's Untucked, the text said "3 Queens remain"

Any chance they’ll bring Jackie back due to Sherry’s elimination? I hope so. Jackie was fantastic tonight.

I don't think so.  At the end, when Ru said "who do you want to win, America?", she only mentioned Gigi, Jada, and Chrystal as possible options.  In the original recording she probably also included Sherry, but they edited that out.

Seeing how far Sherry got, it makes a lot more sense that they kept showing us the disclaimer that she wouldn't be in the finale.  And it's also obvious that after the scandal broke, they worked very hard at editing her out when they could.  Like, they had no time to edit her out of the first few episodes, but for someone who made final 4 she has not been featured too much in the last bunch of episodes.  No talking heads, not a lot of camera time, not a lot of comments or interactions with other girls.... They really made a point of having as little Sherry as possible without messing up the flow of the episodes.

  3. The way I read it, Max wasn't mad that Zoey sang to Simon, or that Zoey had feelings for Simon.  The reason he was mad at Zoey, as per their conversation in the men's room, was that when she told him she didn't want to star a relationship with him, she said the reason was that she was afraid to lose the friendship.  She didn't tell him that another reason was that she also had feelings for Simon.

Granted, not losing the friendship might be Zoey's number 1 reason not to be with Max, but Max felt Zoey wasn't completely honest with him when they had their conversation because she never mentioned that she had feelings for Simon.  And perhaps Zoey didn't want to mention that reason to avoid hurting Max, but, at the same time, if you really want a guy to stop pursuing you romantically, telling him you also have feelings for someone else is usually more effective than telling them "I do have feelings for you, which are so important, I'm afraid I'll lose you if something goes wrong".  The first one doesn't give the guy much hope, the second one gives them tons of hope (full disclosure: I'm a straight woman, so I don't know for sure how a straight man would feel in that situation, but that's how I've seen it go down in the real world more than once).

It would not be unreasonable, for a person in Max's position to think that Zoey wasn't completely straight with him because she wanted to keep her options open.  As a viewer, I actually think that's what she is doing, but I think she doesn't consciously realise it yet. She agreed with Simon to keep it professional, yet, she still seeks him out first in the office, and steers the conversation toward personal stuff.  You would think that after bursting spontaneously into song not once, not twice, but three times in half a workday, she would know better than to stay in a quiet, candle-lit meditation room with a guy she knows she, at the very least, has the hots for.  The second she realised he was there, she should have bolted before she got the urge to sing again.

Telling Max she didn't know she had feelings for Simon until she sang them is also a sign of this.  She knew she had feelings for the guy, she told her mom about them, and her doing so was the reason the engagement party went to hell.  So, she's lying to Max again.  I don't think it's intentional; in her mind, she probably rationalises it as not hurting him so bad that she would lose his friendship forever, but deep down, she doesn't want him to stop pursuing her.

Ha! Talk to me when you can claim to have the original "Like a Virgin" in vinyl. 😛

    Loved the winning design!

I have to say I was confused as to how John Robinson has the authority to appoint his 19 year old daughter as the legal guardian for 95 children who aren't his. Shouldn't Captain Kamal be making that call? Or maybe Victor, who the colonists have voted as their leader?

He said all the parents had a conversation and agreed that it should be her. If nothing else, ir does make sense to send a young medical doctor with the children. She can attend to health issues and injuries if they run into trouble in their voyage, and she is young enough that she would potentially live longer than an older doctor, should they need her

I think you expressed it quite well and I appreciate that particular outlook as it's not something I'd have looked for otherwise. I don't know if the show had that in mind or plans to dive into that topic, but I for one appreciate that particular insight. Wish I could mark the previous reply as both 'Useful' AND 'Liked'

Lindelof is both, Jewish and Catholic. He was born and raised in one religion and later, when he married, converted to the other. I'm not sure which one came first, but if my memory serves me right, I believe he was born Jewish and then became Catholic. So, he might not see it as anything other than putting into the script a shared story between the two religions.

For what it's worth, Catholicism (and all other Christian religions) did not steal or appropriate the Old Testament, per se. From what I understand, the main difference between Judaism and Christianity is that these stories, which originally came from the Dead Sea scrolls, state that God will send a saviour to us humans. Judaism thinks the saviour is yet to come and that Jesus (who was born a Jew), is a prophet, Christians, OTOH, believe that Jesus was the promised saviour and thus added a New Testament to the old scripture with his life history and teachings, and the teachings of his Apostles after Jesus died, resurrected, and ascended to Heaven.

But I am not an expert on this, so, open to be corrected.

I am really hoping a woman being part of the judging panel will mean no more pretty little blondes getting away with week after week of frozen desserts.

Here's a brief interview with all three judges which hopefully the overseas viewers will be able to check out.

Unfortunately, nothing from the domain 10 play can be watched overseas. If there's a press article one of you can share, I'd appreciate it.

  8. Also, Michelle Visage is currently a contestant in Strictly Come Dancing (the British show that became Dancing with the Stars in the US). First episode aired already, where the Stars are paired with their season's Pro (no competitive dances until episode 02)

RuPaul's Drag Race UK: Everything you need to know ahead of the UK season launch

They just aired the first episode introducing the Queens. No competition yet, just an episode where the Queens introduce themselves (who they are, why they auditioned, strengths and weaknesses, etc. ). Some interesting personalities in there.

Anyone here planning to watch? If so, perhaps we could have a thread for the UK show, mods?

Quick off topic post, but I just wanted to say @WearyTraveler:  I love your avatar.  My sister has a Huskie and he looks exactly like the dog in your avatar.  He is such a friendly, chill dog...for the most part.  He gets scared around rabbits and cries every time he sees one.

Thank you!! That's my doggie, Logan (named for The Wolverine).  He's a chill dog, too.  A rescue. He's about 9 yo now and a lot chiller tan your average Husky because when I rescued him he was already sick with a recurring illness from a tick bite (joints may get inflamed from time to time, low iron...); treatable stuff, but it flares up every now and then, so, he's not very active.  And yes, he's friendly as friendly can be.  His nicknames include, Judas, Traitor and Slut (jk!).

Whereas Pia and Janine seemed to be more angry/placed more blame on Abbey.

But, if you watch until the end when the credits are rolling, you can see that Janine and Pia, both, wrote down Simon's name. So, in spite of all the apparent maneuvers to vote Abbey out, they voted for Simon.

It seems there was a big chunk of negotiations that they didn't show us.

  12. Razors and waxing are not the only way to get rid of unwanted hair. There is a procedure done with laser that burns the root so the hair doesn't ever come back. It is expensive, but quite common among actresses (Pia), athletes (Abbey) and business women (Janine).

  13. Regarding the soap

It was actually part of the plan. We see June putting the product or their soap boiling on the metal gate hinges and confirming that it was not squeaking. Presumably because they wanted to prevent neighbours hearing the gate being open and shut every time a Martha showed up with a child.

This is because soap is made with oils. If I recall my chemistry right, if one were to boil it, water would evaporate, oil would be on the bottom and solids would float to the top.

That said, they must have cooking oil in all the Commanders' households. Even if you don't use it everyday, it is a very common staple (I think we have seen some people eating fried eggs, too). So, they could have used that and saved themselves the time.

But it's not. Jezzebels is imbedded in the system. Disobediant handmaids are sent there, Marthas work there, etc. It might be frowned upon by some in power and it's hush hush, but no commander is doing something illegal by going there.

Fred did something illegal by bringing his handmaid, but that's a different matter.

The show established that having sex with one's wife for any reason other than procreation is a crime (one of the reasons there are Eyes, I'm sure). It stands to reason that going to Jezebel's to have sex with women is also illegal.

Commander "what's his name" was thoroughly punished for having sex with Janine outside the ceremony, after all.

The Handmaids and Marthas that ended up there were probably meant for the Colonies.

I kinda doubt many women get actually murdered there. Even if they did, the Marthas probably wouldn't have to get rid of the body. It would go to the mourge. The commander would not face any consequences for killing a "hartlot" in "self defense", of course.

But the Commanders would face consequences for being at Jezebel's. It's a clandestine place for them, like the speakeasys of the 20s. While some in positions of power endorse the place, the more faithful commanders would punish their fellow commanders for sinning.

The half-hour vs hour shows sounds completely plausible, but I think there must have been exceptions along the way...but after racking my brain, I can't think of any, at least any that competed for an Emmy.

I vaguely remember that there were some industry complaints when Desperate Housewives chose to compete in the comedy category. Many said the category was less competitive, at the time, than drama and DH was a one hour show.

There were discussions of adding a "dramedy" category, but no one took that seriously because there are already so many awards, the show would last for days, or the awards seen as less likely to hold the audience attention (cinematography, for example) would end up having even less exposure than they already do.

I got a first hand review of Kit on stage and turns out that it was only D&D that thought he was good for not much else.  My friend has seen this particular play about a million times, True West, and declared Harrington one of the best she’s seen.  So not sure why we never got that depth on GoT but apparently its there.

I live in London and saw Kit performing Faustus, he was good in it.

  18. From reading the books, I have always thought, as many others did, that Jaime will end up killing Cersei and fulfilling the Valonquar prophesy.  And that they would die together.  And I think I know why D&D decided to go with the die together part but not with the Jaime killing her part.

I'm an avid reader, have been so since I learned to read, and there are some patterns and story arcs that you just know before the author reveals them.  While reading the books, I guessed many of the developments that came to pass (R+L=J, for example), some developments I didn't guess until the characters did (Joffrey engineered Bran's assassination attempt), and I thought some developments could go in several different directions (i.e. the information provided was not enough to guess).

In the matter of Cersei's death in the books, I'm still convinced it will be Jaime who kills her.  But it will happen a lot sooner than in the show, probably in the next book (if Martin ever finishes it).  Since D&D loved Lena (and Cersei) and wanted to keep her character around until the end, they could not have Jaime kill her in the penultimate episode.  Why? Because Jon will kill Dany in the finale, and we can't have two guys killing the queens they love because they have become monsters in back to back episodes.  Jaime killing Cersei would diminish the impact of Jon killing Dany.

If I am correct, then this is one more character development moment sacrificed at the altar of their weird Cersei adoration (and I'm not even a Jaime fan!).  Sigh!

I think it's sad that the show will not stick the landing. But, oh, well. life goes on!
