"There is a difference between enduring and thriving." Of course there is. WTF, Burnham?

Is this really the original line? Wow.

I have to watch the show in Spanish as that is how it is being broadcast in my region, and here ‘thriving’ was changed to the Spanish for ‘prospering’, which seemed like a pretty logical way to get a bunch of what are basically Vulcans on side, as you would be making it clear that you know perfectly well that they already understand this point and therefore all you are saying is that they should be acting in accordance with their values.

I’m amazed if the original writers didn’t just do that. The translation gave a totally different meaning to the line.

  2. Every time we have one of these very special episodes, the person we have just learned about or been reminded about why they are awesome immediately dies or leaves. The part-robot crew member. The security officer. Georgiou. Now Tilly. I have a feeling there have been others.

It’s getting to be a weird tic the show has developed.

  3. I am glad that it was pointed out that Big was so often a prick at his own funeral. He was an interesting character and often likable. But…

I liked most of the funeral but the eulogy, read by Miranda, was terrible. For a second I thought it was supposed to be a ‘someone stop her, she’s drunk’ moment, but then I realized that it was intended to be beautiful and emotional. I can only assume that we’re supposed to think that Carrie was never was much of a writer.

Loved the support of the friends for each other, the realism about just taking a bit of medicine to get through the pain, and Charlotte’s terrifying plan to donate the secondhand funeral lox.

OK....since I won't pay for the streaming service to watch this, I will keep up through the posts here. I am a little confused----did she walk in on him masturbating? Was she upset he was doing it? I used to LOVE Chris Noth back in the day but, um yeah I don't need to see that.....lol. Just curious how this scene fit in the episode....

She got pressured into demanding that he show her how he did it as almost a dare by her boss at a podcast and then he made it into a rather sweet joke to get her to have sex with him. It was a perfectly ok scene and in fact you never saw anything. It wasn’t even really a sex scene apart from a bit of reaching down and some groaning. It started off as supposedly a lack of intimacy and then showed how their idea of intimacy was just different from what some other people might do. Frankly there’s more about masturbation in your average Judy Blume book.

I am pretty sure the writers have never listened to a podcast in their lives. It all felt very "how do you do, fellow kids?"

This. Tennisgurl you are so right. Miranda is the exact person who would have been listening to podcasts since, what? 2003? It was Carrie who was the ‘I have to smell actual pages’ person, and even she loved her laptop. Miranda wasn’t like that until they needed her to become a fogey. She was always on her Blackberry. It was like they have all become the same age as Big, who was supposed to be the older, mature one. They’re still from the same generation they were always from. They would have all bought the original iPod when it came out. This isn’t Grace and Frankie (which is so cute, but they are in their 80s). And just about everyone who was born from at least 1940 onwards listens to the odd podcast and is all over YouTube.

And as a working environment, that podcast sucked. I like Che but, no, my gentleperson, sort yourself out. There are better ways to direct your cast. It’s called preparation. Don’t make your cast ashamed of being themselves and don’t bow down to trolls.

  6. I love how Lily has continued her vendetta against Big. She always was his nemesis.
Remember the Sex and The City movie when Lily was 3 years old? She was the person who answered the phone and silently hung up on Big, leading to Big and Carrie’s cancelled wedding. It’s great that she has moved on to actually getting him killed. (Sorry for those who love him, but he was so, so, so often such a bitch to Carrie).

I do love that Lily is Charlotte’s dream daughter and Rose is Harry’s, even though at first they thought it was going to be the other way around. That’s beautiful. But Brady is going to fall in love with Lily and also convert to Judaism in season three. You know it. Love finds a way.

Man, Americans are such puritans about alcohol. They are going to give Miranda a drinking problem in a couple of episodes because that’s the cultural bias and y’all are still trying to get over the 1920’s, but people, it is always 5 o’clock somewhere. If Samatha were there, she would definitely get that. Fundamentally, that’s why she had to ‘move to London’. Because the British are her soul animals. Have a pint and then stop. Have a dram and then stop. Or don’t, but if you don’t, accept your consequences and try to stay safe. It’s ok. It’s a choice. Like sex. It can go wrong but it’s not original sin.

  7. Unfortunately, Jim Caviezel continues to do even more publicity for the QAnon conspiracy theory. Things are looking pretty irredeemable for him at this point. If further proof is needed, there is a video of him at a recent conspiracy conference.

I just find all of this pretty tragic.

some things - like the time-travelling shenanigans of the Avengers - are supposed to happen. So until definitively told otherwise, I choose to believe that the AoS time-travel shenanigans were perfectly permissible under the rules of the TVA because it was always supposed to happen that way!

I did notice that Coulson's recovery wasn't mentioned, but there really was no reason for Morbius to bring that up, would have been extraneous in a scene very much focused on Loki, and a distraction for fans who never watched AoS.

Yeah, why tell a Loki 2012, who only just murdered Phil in this timeline, that it didn’t work? Mobius is certainly not that irresponsible, since he seems like kind of a similar guy to Phil, anyway.

  9. I feel like I should mention that shows like ‘El ministerio del tiempo’ or its American ripoff ‘Timeless’, or ‘The Department of Temporal Investigations’ in Star Trek, the original Time Lords of Doctor Who or the Philip K. Dick story/movie ‘The Adjustment Bureau’ or ‘Time Cop’ or Terry Pratchett’s ‘History Monks’ (AKA The Men in Saffron) among so many other… variants… all cover a lot of this same premise, of a dictatorial official authority deciding what is and isn’t history and then making it happen/unhappen.

These stories usually end with the top members of the authority deciding to (mostly) liberate the universe from such an iron fisted control of time, or the underlings going to war with the authority for humanity’s freedom, or the authority at least allowing some serious discrepancies to slide.

According to Wiki, the TVA appeared in Thor comics before many but not all of these (in 1986), so they were there early, but it will be fascinating to see if they can actually surprise us.

So far in this episode they seem to be worse than most of those other fictional organisations (murdering random people for not taking one of those stupid paper tickets), so I’m interested to see how dark they go.

  10. It was a great idea to remind the audience how Loki Tahiti-fied Phil Coulson (the first time), as most people had probably forgotten how nasty that was, unless they’ve rewatched Avengers recently.

Loki had adapted over time to being around heroes so much that he basically sacrificed himself for his brother, but this Variant is still the one who only just murdered Phil. He’s hilarious, but he’s a really nasty piece of work. And Mobius, with his absentminded, quietly spoken company-man style, seems quite similar to Coulson, except at this point Mobius is clearly somewhat more powerful.

They did a good, quick job of covering all the essential background one would need to get into this show by showing and not telling too much. Enjoyed watching Loki seeing that all his brilliant dreams are already dust and that everyone he loves (including himself) is, at least temporarily, gone. He really had that coming.

Also loving the sneaky references to politics in Hiddleston’s native UK with references to being ‘Born to rule’ and wanting to be ‘King of Earth’. Pretty sure that’s not a coincidence, especially since he actually went to the same school as both Prime Ministers who used those phrases to describe themselves and their plans. They’re all literally from the same place. After Winter Falcon, with the variety of social issues that show covered, this doesn’t seem at all unlikely. The idea that a ‘mischievous scamp’ can wreak total havoc is certainly topical.

The episode wasn’t a blow out CGI festival, but it was really fun. And Miss Minutes is terrifying.

  11. Blue outfit guy looks confusingly like Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier but with lighter hair. If they do ever team up with the Avengers, that is going to be weird.

I didn’t know that they had filmed some of this in the Canary Islands, but one look at their ancient civilization set with the mountains and sand and palm trees in this trailer and it was obvious. Nowhere else on this planet  is quite as ruggedly, volcanically, sub-tropically beautiful. It turns out to have been the island of Fuerteventura, if anyone now feels like they need to visit. One of the best places on Earth for a chilled-out trip (now with added Marvel!).

I actually think Kensi is not going to get pregnant until the show is about to end. I don't think they want to write a pregnancy into the show because she would have to be kept in Ops for the full pregnancy which would be boring. Given how hard it has been for her to get pregnant, she wouldn't take any chances.

I can see them going towards the foster care/adoption route which could be interesting. Then Kensi gets pregnant towards the end of the show's run -- a surprise baby. Everyone is happy...

    We'll see...

Well, I seem to remember Kensi saying that she saw Titanic (1997) as a teenager, so if the show goes on for, let’s say, as long as NCIS: mothership, they’ll probably have to just get on and write it in at some point.

Considering that this show has dealt with a lot of the negative sides of foster care, it would be interesting if they had Kensi and Deeks go into foster-to-adopt or something. I could seem them (eventually) becoming awesome at that and it would involve their team rallying round and offering support.

  13. I feel like the episode being staged as an interview with Rick Alan Ross, who seems to still have the ability to be highly empathetic about the whole situation, kept Dr Phil under a little more control in this episode about the ‘Love has won’ disaster, but of course he couldn’t resist asking about ‘Mother god’ missing her eyes. Dude, this is a group of people who believe that Marilyn Monroe was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ and Spiderwoman. There won’t be any rational reason for this behavior.

Don’t ask why they did it, ask the cult expert for information about how normal, intelligent people (because believe it or not, studies have shown that those are the people who join cults. Previously rational, intelligent, ordinary people) can be manipulated by a charismatic leader into total delusional destructiveness. That’s the issue here which would be most useful for the audience to know about. Educate your audience about how they or those they love could be on the edge of one of these groups right now and not even realize it. I feel like Ross did a decent job and probably at least tried to make some more detailed and interesting points, but they were probably cut for time so Phil could get his gore in.

Did nobody ever tell him that it’s tasteless for a presenter to give in to the audience’s most base curiosities? Because someone should.

  14. The QAnon Anonymous podcast, which mocks Q and believers in the conspiracy theory in detail every week, have an episode today specifically about Jim Caviezel and a lot of background which they say they have discovered from former crew on the show about his time on the set of Person of Interest, all of which is extremely disturbing and weird.

No idea obviously how true any of it is, but it’s clear that a number of people did NOT like working with him. It also alleges that he mistreated not only the crew but other named actors on the show, passing members of the public while shooting and also the first dog to play Bear.

Really depressing stuff. Got to hope at least some of it is made up, because otherwise it would further ruin this show, which I really loved. However, the fact that Caviezel has recently come out as a full Q conspiracist has to make one seriously consider what else may have been going on with him.

This is the link: (warning, the presenters swear frequently, there is discussion and allegations of anti-Semitic beliefs, Islamophbia, homophobia, sexism and racism, etc).

  15. This show has been a disaster for strong female characters since Pride’s first wife was immediately written out and then Meredith was got rid of for no good reason.

None of us should be surprised at this point. I am surprised that they have seemingly ripped off this secret son storyline directly from CSI:Miami, which really should not be the place where anyone should go looking for inspiration. Oh well.

  16. Today’s show really worried me, because the guy was saying that people were suggesting that he die and he seemed to be implying that he was thinking about doing such a thing to himself and the response to that suggestion, at least in the moment, from Phil et al seemed minimal.

That’s a massive thing to bring up on an entertainment TV show and should always be taken extremely seriously by the presenter of the show and needed to be addressed immediately. And the effect of even talking about such an issue as this on many members of the audience absolutely should not be ignored.

Whoever the guest is, and whatever they have done, this show seemed extraordinarily irresponsible in its presentation of issues of self harm.

I feel bad even bringing the topic up here, but I want to say that there is so much great help for ideation and depression  (just for example Samaritans USA crisis line 8778704673, free, confidential and international and available to call on non-pay services such as FaceTime, etc) out there. Just in case this show did affect anyone, or anyone is worried that it might have affected a friend or loved one watching, help and support is out there and no one has to pay a penny. That should have been brought up in the conversation in that same moment it was mentioned on the show. I dread to think how upsetting this episode may have been to some viewers.

What a disaster this show is becoming.

  17. Really loved the creeping sense of dread in this episode. The feeling of relief, warmth and safety for the characters at the beginning gradually replaced by fear and dread. This episode was a perfect self-contained horror story.

I think just about every woman will empathise so much with Cora in the stirrups on the table. Just about everyone has wondered in that situation, even if just for a tiny moment, if the doctor is going to say or do something horrible. That was such horror. And then for her to disclose her rape and realize he’s only asking because he has something else he wants her to give up.

That moment when Cesar gets the job and is so happy and proud, finally so hopeful. Only to find he is helping to kill his friends.

The guy in the museum, who knows way too much about whips. Who gets off on teaching children how the pain of others is for the greater good.

And of course, this episode was a memorial to the long and terrible true history of never really understanding that free has to mean free, and equal really has to be equal. Not your pet. Not your project, or your experiment or your problem. Because when people become those things, people  stop registering as human and all empathy disappears. And we all know how that story goes. It’s the story of humanity.

  18. Looking at my Disney+ right now, it seems like they have organized their Marvel section into options for Cinematic Universe phases or in-universe timeline order and then ‘Marvel Legacy Movies’ includes all the X-Men and Fantastic Four films.

In the category ‘Live Action Series and Specials’ AOS and Agent Carter are placed right alongside The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision, but also with Inhumans and The Gifted, which doesn’t give us any information on whether they are considered at all canon or not.

So this story looks like a load of nonsense.

  19. Just found out how the ‘Mother god/Love has won’ guest story has ended up:

(Warning - this news is a bit gruesome)

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-57017270

Despite all the jokes one could make about her obsession with chicken parm, you have to feel really bad for her family, on the show they clearly accepted she had gone completely off the rails but they still tried to save her from herself.
