  1. I have to chime in on the love for Joel, I started watching back when it was Talk Soup although I was young and couldn't always get control of the TV to watch it, or stay up late but I tried to.  I do think that Joel has done well with the show and we watched Community simply because Joel was in it and fell in love with that show also (R.I.P....).  My husband and I made the trip out to Comic Con a few years back and hubby got a picture with Joel (he really is tall, then again my husband is on the short side). Joel did well spending time with the fans : )

  2. Did they jump? I thought the plan called for them to be lowered, like the bait. How quickly I forget the details. :)

part of them were lowered in on that basket thing with muskets to lure the titans to them, 7 of them were on beams waiting to jump down and slice the 7 titans all at once.  The only major flaw I would see to this plan is what if lets say only 3 titans came at them at first because the other 4 were slower or farther away?  You would then have to kill part of them and get the people off the ground some how and wait for the others to come, it really depended on all 7 titans coming at them at once.  I know thinking too much for an anime but still : P

  3. Grandfather on Father's side = Ye Ye

Grandmother on Father's side = Nai Nai

Grandfather on Mother's side= gong gong

Grandmother on Mother's side = po po

I see no distinction between "granny" and grandmother in Mandarin.

According to the translations above, Jen's Mom should be called "Po Po".  I wonder why they went with Nai Nai?

Funny thing is my in-laws who speak Cantonese have my kids use gong gong and po po for them, but they are grandparents on the fathers side.  I am not sure if there is a difference for the Cantonese to use, honestly I think my in-laws get confused sometimes between the two dialects.

Considering po po is urban slang for police, I'm not surprised Bill and Jen went with Nai Nai. It's much cuter and more endearing (at least in my opinion).

We pronounce it more like "paw-paw" so you don't have that o sound, it helps some.

  4. I think the purpose of the scouts is also to try and figure out where the Titans are coming from and if there is anything they can do to stop them, like are they being sent out by some other force?  Where do they come from and can they find a way to stop them?  They could very well be looking for other humans also.

  5. I forgot to mention - the detail that there aren't any more Asians in this world is interesting, particularly since It wasn't really a question that I was thinking of. I like a bit of unexpected world building.

With that being said, are there any other minorities present in this series?  I guess I kind of want to know are there titans attacking other parts of the world?  It intrigues me but that's what makes it good.

  6. I'm still trying to find out the reason for the elevator in the house.  Has it ever been said exactly?  Bill made a comment that if they would have adopted children without dwarfism, they could carry him up and down the stairs.  Is he unable to climb stairs or is it painful for him?  (please don't tell me it's "unsafe", I don't want to re-hash Jen carelessly climbing on the counter when she had Kate an arm reach away to get the dishes for the take-out food)

I think the elevator is for a few purposes, when they get older and have more trouble getting up and down steps and possibly for moving things up and down the stairs.  I know it can be hard for me to carry a box down the steps can only imagine if it's even possible for Jen.  Just my 2 cents though.

  7. I am a few episodes ahead because I tend to watch it on Netflix but I was up working on school work and caught this episode.  I have to say the episode goes by quickly and it was nice to see some back story, albeit tragic.  The weird running Titan may be the freakiest one to me it's just so....odd......  I also don't recommend eating while watching this show, and I was only eating chicken and dumpling soup lol.

  8. I also wonder if because we see Zoey around Bill, Jen, and Will all the time if that makes her look more of a "normal" size?  Like I would like to see her beside a child who is her age, I think then her tiny stature would probably stand out more.  I think part of it is just a matter of who we are use to seeing her around, like when I see Jen and Bill's kitchen it doesn't occur to me that their counters are probably a good foot or 2 shorter than mine, it all looks proportional.  Just my 2 cents on the issue.

  9. My point is that this "love of cars"" and "love of shoes and pretty things' Is NOT a trait per se. I mean come on. From day one they have been exposing these kids to these things. So of COURSE they are going to  like them. Parents always give girls dolls and pink things and boys cars and "boy toys"  I think you are all missing my point. We are all born with certain traits: Whether we are outgoing, etc. We get those things from our BIOLOGICAL parents. Adoptive parents can't give a child their personality. Whatever personality they are born with is what they have. A love of cars is not a personality trait so much as that is what the kid is exposed to. You see what I am saying?

I think you would be surprised as to how much personality can be passed down simply by being around someone and not necessarily through biology.  Personality is always something that is argued in psychology as to where it truly comes from.  I know plenty of parents who have adopted children, some from birth others from age 4 and under and their children still share some of their personality traits, some are just as easy going as their parents and laid back, others are just as determined and head strong.  Things like a calm demeanor, someone who is angered easily, or patient can all be learned personality traits usually picked up by those around them.  The funny thing with personality is it is a hard thing to truly test to see where it comes from.  You can argue that a child acts like their parents because of biology but unless you can go back and remove that child from their parents and have them raised by a completely opposite set of parents you will never truly know what is nature and what is nurture.
