Wait, I thought he went to school with Kristen? Or am I mistaking another kid in her class for him? I did laugh a little that the parents were not quite clear on whether it's gender fluid or gender queer, or what. They're trying to be supportive, but sometimes the labels get confusing.

I'm also curious about just what Audrey's occupation/career/business is, exactly.

I do think there's going to an ugly fall out from the "White Kids' movement group. That boy who Audrey clearly believed she had gotten thru to....I'm pretty sure she did not.

You are correct.  He was sitting in the same classroom when the kids were all arguing over their opinions.

Did you see the special piece that NBC ran yesterday about Katarina Gordeva?  The death of Sergei in '95, and their daughter, Daria, talking about how she thinks of him every day and how strong her mom is.  She is 25 now.  It was a very moving story.

Boring ep. I was only left wondering how much shipping was going to cost for that huge ass package.

As an aside, I have a daughter in college across the country and I ship care packages all the time.  You can ship via USPS  Priority Mail in any of their flat rate boxes (small, medium, large & it's also insured), and it does not matter how much the package weighs.  I have no idea what she did, as she can likely afford anything.   I love it because it's cheap vs. shipping UPS or FedEX ground - even 5-day.

  5. My sentiments are on the same page with everyone here about Vanessa.  If they come back for another season, they MUST replace her (and retire the word AWESOME, AMAZING).  There are enough credible folks out there to judge and that 3rd seat should not be for someone trying to famewhore themselves back into the spotlight.  I also am hopeful we won't have anymore All Star contestants.  Return to the original 20 format.  So much of this season was spent mugging for how much they'd improved (staring at Comfort, as almost every routine she was in, it was all about her performance), and I could do without Allison.  I know it's lame, and she gets lots of love because of being married to Twitch, but something about her bugs me.  Sometimes it feels like she is over-dancing/performing, if that makes any sense.

  6. I really miss actual cooking shows on this network, many mentioned up thread.  I also enjoyed Sara Moulton's show.  I learned a lot and they were enjoyable.  I absolutely cannot take one more competition show (and those are completely recycled withe the over-saturated chefs we already see), and people traveling around...well...eating.  Whatever.

Bobby said Cory had the best food all season.  And I thought his pilot was flawless.  At least Mr. "how 'ya durin/ya heard me" buffoon didn't win.

But this reality show has never been about who had the best food or who was the best cook.

I am thrilled that Jason won.  I've thought all along that he was told to amp up his folksiness because he was basically the same personality on the baking show but more subdued.  His montage tonight seemed to prove me right.  I hope he gets a show of some kind, not just a few judging appearances.

I have never understood why Cory chose to be on this show.  He's an accomplished chef and restaurateur who, as others have said, should be on Top Chef.  He never seemed comfortable on camera although he did do a good job with his pilot.  I felt sorry for him coming in third out of three and to Rusty of all people.  It has always seemed a bit mean to me for FN to eliminate that third person when there's no reason that I can see why they couldn't make the final announcement with all three standing there.

Rusty seems nice enough but his constant screaming was more than I could take.  He crosses a line between jovial and overbearing.

Interesting that Matthew was totally ignored.  I guess he played the part he was brought back to play and was done.

Cory seems to be a bit of a reality TV person - making the rounds.  When does he have time to cook at a restaurant?  He should stick to what he does best.  One of the things that grates so much for me on The Food Network is the constant reshuffling of the same reality people across all of their shows.

However, I'm very happy Jason won.  He was always humble, and complimentary to all his competitors (even told Cory he was by far the best cook of them all).  Let's hope they don't turn him into a joke.

  8. I know Jason isn't everyone's cup of tea, based on  many comments here throughout the season about his over-done Southern accent/commentary.  I thought this article shed a little more light into who he is and I found it endearing how he treasures having learned how to cook while hanging with his grandmother.  I'll be rooting for him.

I do agree with many posters up-thread that during the competition, I could care less about stories.  Just cook really good food, show me some interesting dishes/tips, and dispense with all the over-mugging (Matthew) and elitist ingredients (Cory) stuff.  While I think both Matthew and Cory have cooking cred and many dishes seemed tasty, I have zero interest in watching them on TV.   I'm surprised Rusty made it this far, as he seemed mediocre in both food and on-air challenges a lot.

I think Jason was better on the baking championship.  Now it seems as though he found out his little persona helped him win, so he is overdoing it.  It seems a bit forced and like it's so exaggerated.

I dunno, maybe it's just me, but isn't he supposed to try to win?  If over-exaggeration does it, then I say go for it.  It's really no different than others who have forced stories down our throats, or pushed "catch" phrases or behaviors.  Like Tregaye.  He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but he (and anyone else) should capitalize on what is working for him to be the winner.

Cory once again let us know that this weeks challenge was beneath his superior abilities and palate, but he would deign to suffer through it for our benefit. Why he ever decided to send in his video resume for this show baffles me. As others have accurately stated, he would be a better fit on Top Chef than this clown fest. While he was a much better cook than anyone else on this show, his snobbery and apparent boredom doomed his chances. Additionally, for an experienced chef, he should have known that a three pound slab of ground beef was not going to be cooked through in the limited time he had.

I just wish we would stop seeing recycled people on all these various cooking shows/competitions.

Or maybe they just called each other -- "What are you wearing?" "Oh, let's all wear silver!" -- But who's going to call Oprah and tell her what to wear? :D

I thought this was pretty good, though there's too much interruption and talking over each other. The one I wish hadn't been there was Oprah. Nothing against her per se, but a few times it seemed like she was conducting the roundtable.

What I loved most was when they were talking about acting itself.

I liked seeing who had worked together. Off the top of my head...

Lange and Metz: American Horror Story
Witherspoon and Kidman:  Big Little Lies
Winfrey and Witherspoon: A Wrinkle in Time
Moss and Kidman: Top of the Lake (S2)

    Then on IMDB I found...

Lange and Moss: A Thousand Acres

I don't know if there are any more.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one feeling Oprah was misplaced on this roundtable.  Perhaps they were doing really current people; however, I would have much rather seen an actress from Queen Sugar who has done some phenomenal acting the past 2 seasons (and is very time relevant).  The lack of diversity on the panel was glaring.

I wondered if they had all just come from some photo shoot or event - hence, the silver dressy outfits.

Jessica Lange looked great and I wanted to hear more from her.

  12. We just tried the roasted shrimp recipe that aired recently.  It was good; however, way too much lemon juice in the recipe.  It almost overpowered the dish.  Also, the 2 pounds of shrimp was enough for the 3 of us, but it definitely would not have stretched to feed 4.  And the two pounds of shrimp with an 8-10 count/pound can get pretty pricey.  We may try it again with much less lemon.

I can't believe I'm about to say this but... Sunny is becoming the only reason to watch this show IMO. She's enthusiastic and has a good attitude. Katie seems to be phoning it in each week, GZ always looks like he can't wait to leave, and Marcela is awkward and desperate. Jeff is ok, he's funny sometimes and can cook. But Sunny brings a little spark and hasn't even lunged for anyone's food in a couple weeks!

My dislike for Katie is endless, so I'm on board with a revamp of personalities for this show.  I seem to be among the few who don't find Sunny annoying.  Just in general, the network needs to stop recycling the same chefs for every show.  So tired of all of them and the gimmicky concepts.

Lost all respect for Gimelstob, he was virtually foaming at the mouth at the outrage of Maria not being given a wildcard into the French Open.

Loved Pam Shriver's comment at ESPN:

    http://www.espn.com/tennis/story/_/id/19395832/tennis-was-denying-maria-sharapova-entry-french-open-right-decision

In all fairness, the ITF needs to get both the ATP and the WTA on board that players suspended for doping don't get WC into tournaments , because the temptation is too great for these tournaments not to red carpet a big name.

Sharapova  can get by her current ranking into the Qualifying  of Wimbledon, and the BLTA would do well in not rocking the boat and WC'ing Sharapova into the main draw.

I have not had any respect for Gimelstob for a very long time.  He also has a history of being an overflowing word toilet.

I agree with your commentary 100% about the rank and file getting in alignment over a return from doping.  Pam is spot on in in her assessment that Sharapova has not shown humility and/or deference about this issue.

I hate cold potato salad.   When my mom made her potato salad (lots of mustard,  pickles,  hard boiled eggs,  celery  and mayonnaise), I'd only eat it as soon as she made it. The potatoes and eggs were still kind of warm Mmmm!  loved it. I don't make a lot of potato salad but when I do I eat it when it is  still warm. I don't touch it once it's chilled.

Wow, same for me, and my daughter now as well!

When a friend in Ohio makes a big batch of potato salad, she chops boiled potatoes and adds about a tablespoon of sweet pickle relish to the mix.  Miracle Whip is her dressing of choice.  The potato salad is actually very good   The relish is chopped so finely that when it's stirred into a big bowl, you barely know it's there, but it adds a touch of brightness to the salad.  Since I love the taste of dill in potato salad, I made my friend's recipe with dill pickle relish, and I had quite a few compliments.  I think that food trends across the country might make an interesting book if it hasn't already been written.

I'm from the South (but live in CA now), and Duke's Mayo was the staple of  a mighty good potato salad.  I cannot buy that brand out here, but I do have family that ships it to me.  I add relish, finely diced onions, and boiled eggs to mine, also.

And the French Open will not give Maria Sharapova a wild card entry to this year's event. Because a gap in play due to a doping suspension does not justify such an invitation to their major.

AMEN - “She has handled her suspension with dignity and respect,” said Giudicelli, who announced the decision via Facebook Live. “But nonetheless, though there can be a wild card after an injury, there cannot be one for a return from doping. So it is up to Maria day after day, tournament after tournament, to find alone the strength she needs to win the big titles without owing anything to anyone.”

And Justin is just a tool IMHO - “I believe every tournament should give her a main draw wild card, and I think the safest play is to give her a wild card into the qualies,” Justin Gimelstob, a Tennis Channel analyst and member of the ATP board of directors, said on Monday. “I’m very concerned this new president is going to try to make a statement and shut her out of the tournament. If he does that, it’s a huge travesty and a mistake.”

THIS - Novak Djokovic, a longtime friend of Sharapova’s, said, “Whoever, you know, runs the French Open is in charge of the French Open, and they can make a decision that they think is the most appropriate.”

**Following the episode and its deletion from our DVR, Khaleesi expressed concern that Brad Culpepper has a lump in his abdomen.  I didn't notice it, but she seems to think it was on his right side and wasn't a muscle.  If anyone still has the episode and can confirm/deny, might set her mind at ease.  If confirmed, I'm just going to ask her to give me a quick check-up, because WHAT.

The 5 o'clock Shadow Knows:  Sierra has some serious sideburn action going on.

Reward challenge rewardisms:  They should have brought Debbie back to fly the plane.

Zeke has an idea about the puzzle:  Withering?!  Withering?!  Why... but like why?

The puzzle spells out "Reinventing this game blah blah":  Luckily they put in that puzzle because for 3 minutes we forgot it was the Gamechangers season.

Tribal Council:  Okay so I guess 200 things happened between what we saw and this.  And I guess they told Brad and Sierra to vote for Tai, because they know Tai will go nuts later and side with them?  Or side with a chicken or a flower or whatever, and not Brad and Sierra?

My daughter and I noticed Brad's lump right away and commented.  It did look bizarre and in a place that wouldn't seem to have a normal bone protruding.

Also, this likely sounds petty but we also wonder why you would paint your nails before going on Survivor? Looking at you Sierra!

Feel validated that we weren't the only ones wondering about Tai's votes and when those convo's happened!

I’m not down with all the guest stars….Will and Grace used to be a great show until a guest celebrity was featured on every…frickin’…episode!  And that’s what I’m feeling here, from Nia Long to Eva Longoria to Taye Diggs to Rumer Willis.

Speaking of Rumer, I’m going straight to hell, but I was distracted by the makeup obviously covering up the horrible acne her face was sprouting.  And what the Steve Harvey did she do with her lips, she over puffed those suckas!  The song she sang wasn’t bad though.

There's still 6 episodes left in the second half of the season, so there's a pretty good chance she'll appear again before the finale.

Yes. this.  I was wondering the same thing as to why they were not doing the translations!
