Many years ago, our NBC affiliate that airs Jeopardy! wanted to put more news on at 7, so they moved Wheel to 7:30 and J! was moved to something like 3 PM.  I decided that's because they figured J! viewers could actually program a VCR, whereas Wheel watchers...

That only lasted a few months til they moved their news program to 5 PM & restored Wheel & J! to their rightful places.

I live in the Central time zone and my local affiliates (there have been two here ABC & NBC) have always shown it during the day except for one season when it came on at 6:00 pm. But the competing channels always had news at that time so the NBC affiliate gave up the show & the ABC affiliate started showing it at 3:00 with a repeat at 3:30. They have since switched it to show the repeat at 3 and the new one at 3:30.

Oh, I forgot we were in reruns now.  Just turned on the TV to see Matt Amodio's grinning face.  Turned off the TV.  Nothing against Matt per se.  I'll watch some of the reruns, but it's not "appointment TV" for me.

I knew it was going to be a rerun but I’d forgotten Matt was the retuning champion. I didn’t watch much of his run because he bugs me. I gave it another chance today. I changed the channel before double Jeopardy. I’m just not looking forward to the TofC even though I like Amy & Ryan.

  3. Did this happen on your viewing of yesterday’s episode? In the -ola category, the clue for Shin-ola was revealed but it skipped whether anyone guessed and went directly to the next clue. I can see where maybe it was problematic.

"Scherzo" usually refers to light, vigorous, or playful music.  They were busy, at least, in this episode.

Endeavour returned to his flat and found a note.  I assume it was from his stepmother, saying she had left, but what was the word on the outside of the envelope?  The word looked too short fo be Endeavour.

Has anyone explained why this show has characters with unusual names, such as Strange and Thursday?  Are those names less unusual in England? (In the US we know Joe Friday of Dragnet, but I never heard of anyone named Thursday before this show.)

I think the note did have Endeavour written on it. All of the handwriting on the note, sparse as it was, was small.

I don't get it. Seems a lot of people watch the players rather than the games (clues-board). And if people don't like a player who waves her hands around or says "What's" instead of "Who's," they won't watch. I'll admit that voices get to me at times, but I'd never consider not watching. Because I play along. Unanswered or missed questions might make me feel old, but I'm firmly convinced that playing along every night keeps me young.

To me, learning new things in various categories is like taking a college course in trivia

Am I the only one who feels this way?

I think I gave up on James & Matt very early in their runs. I liked Amy but I was ready for her to go by the time she left because I just got tired of no one getting even close to knocking her off. I guess quirky is okay for some but it’s just not my bag. Julia was really the only long running contestant that I was sad to see leave. I quit watching for about ten years so I missed Ken’s run but I love him as host. Plus, I found out that he’s good friends with Andy Richter which amuses me for some reason.

Did that include producing or hosting as well as appearing as a contestant?  James is certainly not outside the 10 year line.

Earlier this week Amy (not Schneider) mentioned to Ken that it had been her childhood ambition to be a member of the Jeopardy Clue Crew, and he made a comment about how that was still a possibility (whereas becoming a contestant after working on the clue crew would not have been allowed).  I don't recall that they discussed timelines though.

Well, like I said it’s been 25 years since I was on the show so lots of changes. And there weren’t as many quiz shows as there have been since. There was one show on Game Show Network where the host stayed in the shadows. There were 3 contestants and three rounds where they would be eliminated after the first & second round with one person at the end doing some kind of timed quick quiz for a specified prize (it’s been a while—I’m thinking the host was called the Inquisitor or something like that.) Anywho the point of that story is that I saw a multi day champion as a contestant on there once. It had to be after I was on Jeopardy because I remembered the guy from being on Jeopardy and how was he able to be on the second show when it probably had been less than 10 years since he’d been on Jeopardy.

I think I have read that contestants are contractually restricted from certain other media appearances until a year after their last games.  They may not be eligible to do something like The Chase or a GSN show until November of next year, given the ToC.

When I was on the show in 1997, we were told we could never be on Jeopardy again nor another game show for something like 10 years or something like that. It’s been a while (and didn’t include when you might make the TofC.)

Margaret should heed Coco Chanel's advice: "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off".

The glasses, the glasses chain, the super red lipstick, the big earrings, the big necklace, the little necklace (all of course competing with the microphone).  Oy.

I expect this has been asked before, but don't they get any advice from hair and makeup/wardrobe?

I kinda like her look but I told my SO that she’s a young woman trying to look like an older lady.

I was rooting for Jess in the first game, so I was a bit bummed for her to fade as the game went on, but I was also pulling for Kaden for being such a big fan of the show (I read an article).  So of course Liz won, but I'm not complaining.

The Belfast TS was stunning, but I suppose at this point TS should be incapable of surprising me.  At least they "only" had about ten of them.  🙄

I didn't have a particularly good game, either.  I even missed most of the horror films, which is generally a good genre for me.

I did better in the second game, other than the TV category, which I completely blew.  I wanted to root for Sarah, but she was so very slow in picking a clue; thankfully she generally sped up as the game went on.  Jaskaran was good in an impressive variety of subjects, so I wound up pulling for him.

The spam TS was my Wow, really? moment for that game, but I didn't get worked up about it (thank the Friday night drinking schedule, I guess).  They had fewer TS than we've seen in several of these games, but still far more than in a typical regular game.  Does this normally happen in college championships?  I've never noticed it as such a pattern before, only in the celebrity and teachers tournaments (I don't watch the kids, and hardly ever watch the teens, so I don't know about those).

I feel like this has been a weak pool of contestants because I’m normally very impressed with the college students in the tournaments.

My guess is no. The closest she’s gotten to it is the Big Bang Theory.

I just checked her IMDb page and it appears that while she did some voice acting she wasn’t on camera from 1995-2003. I know she had a couple of kids in that time but I think she was in graduate school during some of her pregnancies.

Yeah, I need Ken back. I may be able to take small doses of Mayim for prime time tournaments, but I won't be as faithful a viewer if she's also the daily host. What really bugged me tonight was the return of her "C'mon guys" condescension on the Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs TS. I got it because my kids liked the book when they were growing up, but it's not as if it should be an instaget for a majority of the population. There was also some giggling again tonight, which seemed to have disappeared during her last stint. Maybe that will improve over the next few days. I hope so.

Perhaps I misheard, but it sounded to me as if Zoha said "Lake Cuomo" instead of Como, which if so, shouldn't have been accepted in a category that required four letter words as answers.

I get 2 episodes a day, one from a few months ago & the current one (Amy’s first game will be on today.) One of the categories on the rerun was comedians catch phrases. The highest value clue was “Can we talk” which was a triple stumper. Ken just said “I feel old—Joan Rivers.” Didn’t blame them & made himself the butt of the joke, not the contestants.

If this should be in a different thread just let me know. Amy's streak made me think about Ken's, I know this has probably been discussed somewhere, sometime but... should Ken's 'streak' be considered two consecutive streaks? He won 38 games in season 20 and 36 in season 21. There was a break between, right? So he got to rest? So, Amy's 40 games is really remarkable.

Both are extremely remarkable. I don’t know how your brain doesn’t turn to mush even playing ten games over two days. Even though Ken was off for a couple of months doesn’t take away the fact that once he jumped back into it that was his reality.

  13. I thought it was way too heavy on the SNL connection. I get that it was NBC and all that entails, but still. And they couldn’t get Carol Burnett? I’m glad Vicki Lawrence was included but Carol should be there. I guess since she is more associated with CBS that might be the reason. I suppose a lot of her contemporaries are dead so they went with what they had.

I would have gotten Frankfort if I hadn't been absolutely sure it's in the western part of KY.  Sheesh. As much as I love to read maps...

I had the stray thought that Jay inherited/purchased Trebek's toupee.

I was busy doing "Contact Us" on J.com, complaining about the mugging cartoonish acting game show host, I missed who won today's game.  I said Edith Wharton for FJ.

It’s funny what you say about Jay’s hair. I commented that he had a great head of hair and my SO said “that’s a wig” but it looks like his real hair to me? Lol

Did well on the movie and Broadway categories, not so much in Transportation and Place Names (never knew Yonkers meant anything - and always thought it was a funny name. Now I know, hopefully I'll retain it).

I didn’t come up with it either but it made sense when Ken said it. I’m interested in the different European monarchies & grand duchies and in the Netherlands some people have an honorific of Jonkheer, which is basically the equivalent of Sir or Dame in the UK. So it’s not surprising that a suburb of NYC has a name like that.

Did you feel that way when James was steam rolling through his competitors?

Yes. I didn’t watch either Jim or Matt when they were on their streaks. I have watched most of Amy’s because she’s more likable but I’m still tired of her being on the show. I wasn’t watching when Ken went on his streak because I quit watching the show for about ten years.

  18. He had been working on Adlon’s for five years? I guess to find her mom’s sister?

I looked at her Wikipedia page. And she is mostly a voice actor. Pam Segall. She was so excited that her mom found a sibling. Being on the receiving end of a similar situation, it’s not “cool”. I’ve been contacted by two people who were my father’s children in the last 15 years and my dad has been dead for 30 years. It is not cool. It’s upsetting.
