  1. Wow, what a great season!  I really enjoyed that. Surprisingly adult, quality programming for the CW. I'm so glad they have this show a third season.

Now Clarke, OK, she took an awful decision, but her attitude felt a bit martyrish at the end. And as Bellamy told her, she wasn't the only one who made the decision to kill all Mountain Men,so her acting like she is the only one who did was a bit meh for me. Nonetheless, I really liked her scene wiith Bellamy in the end, with the callback to "Day Trip" and him giving her forgiveness.

Clarke had more riding on her mind than just the level 5 genocide. She also allowed the missile to hit the camp without warning everybody. And she is the only one who rode both of those decisions. That's a lot of weight.

Murphy finding the bunker looked like the survivors finding the hatch on Lost season 2. The score added to this feeling.

This a hundred times! I really enjoyed that and immediately thought of Lost.

  2. I think this show is a little easier to follow than Continuum, but maybe I'm just deluding myself. Heh.

Or, since it's only season 1, maybe it will be more complex by season 3. OMG I love time travel!

  3. This episode was great, though i'm going to have to re-watch to fully comprehend what happened when.  Specifically the when part.

At the end, I thought the anvil was, "Why don't you combine efforts to at least introduce the cure to the 2033 virus to 2015?"  Would that work?  Am I barking up the wrong tree?

I liked the additions to the 2043 storyline this week.  They really added to that story and made it more interesting.  I'm really going to have to re-watch the whole season at some point to fully grasp all of the details.  What a great job they've done with this show overall. Are there a few things I could nitpick?  Absolutely. But I really am enjoying it.

  4. I just don't agree with folks criticism of Beth. I'm not saying Beth is right. But her behavior is really true to me. Ellie was her friend. She can't comprehend how Ellie didn't know about Joe. She is going to lash out at someone and when we do that, we don't typically lash out rationally.  Quite the opposite. And Ellie is a logical target.  Remember, Beth does not see what we see, so her perspective on Ellie in this is different from ours.

I'm really interested in the courtroom drama.  I love legal dramas, and I think it'll be fascinating to get a feel for the British system, fictionalizing of the process notwithstanding.

I was excited to see Eve Myles. I haven't seen her since Torchwood. It definitely was a retcon to have Tennant suddenly proclaim to have hidden her out near Broadchurch before the season 1 arc.  There wasn't even a hint of that in season 1 and we saw where he was staying, so suddenly there is a big ass house he had rented or something? But he was staying in a hotel?  Clearly inconsistent, but also minor enough to easily shake off and look past.

Anyhow, I really enjoyed this first episode. I thought it was great.  And it was a nice tip of continuity to have Tom still have Susan's keys.  The exhumation might have been weird, but we don't know what legal filings were made since the Latimer's attorney just came on the case, whereas there was presumably just a generic crown attorney previously.  In any case, I can't wait until next week.  No really, it's frustrating that I have to.  Argh!

  5. It really just depends on what ABC's plan is. TV By the Numbers assumes the traditional scheduling of seasons.  So their predictions are based on that model. Assuming ABC is sticking to that model, the prediction is probably right.  But if ABC is really shifting to deploying shorter seasons I don't think we know what their criteria would be for renewal.

  6. Last night's Skye-centric promo did not make me think, "Yes, that's the show I've been missing."  So far, I'd prefer to rewatch Agent Carter episodes.

Well, given the mid-season finale, I kind of think Skye is the elephant in the room.  Fleshing that out this next episode makes sense to me.

  7. Awesome episode!  I think it started a bit slow, which is fine with me actually, but at the end I just said "awesome."  I'm glad I don't remember the details from the movie.  I'm not comparing or anything. Just enjoying this.

  8. The crimes were very upsetting for sure. It's weird that I enjoyed it because the crimes themselves upset me a lot. I thought that the police work was fine. I'm sure there are holes but i've never seen a police drama without them so i've learned to be ok with it.

  9. That was really good.  I think i'm in.  I'm another one who saw and loved the movie but didn't remember any of it because it was 20 years ago.  For me that's a good thing.  I get to enjoy all of this hopefully spoiler free!

Who the hell lets a time traveler take any kind of clocklike object out of his pocket and mess around with it while you just stand there and look at him? Even if their first thought is "Nah, that can't be a time machine. What is this, the Syfy channel?" it could still be a bomb or something. Maybe it emits a gas that doesn't affect people with strangely altered metabolisms? Do not let the enemy reach into his pocket, take something out, and start playing around with the settings on it!

While I understand the argument, I think in the situation very few people would think to be threatened by two watches being laid on a table.  Once they start sparking, maybe.  But given the character, this guy who is going to dissect the man from the future for his own purposes, I think he would have seen something cool that he hopes he can exploit.

Too tired to write more but looking forward to the next episode!

  10. She might just think she's hallucinating at this point, since she keeps going back to her normal visage. Anyway, good question!

That's a good point about hallucinating.  Even if she knows what she is seeing, she could think it's a hallucination which is interesting.

Juliette saw Adalind fully Woge (ie, make herself visible to normal humans) back in Season 3.  Juliette even commented something like "I feel a little sorry for her, even if she did scare the crap out of me."

It's clear that Juliette's aware of what's happened to her.  It's why she hesitated when Nick told her he was going to send Rosalee to her.  When Rosalee did come over, Juliette was obviously being extra careful and sensitive with her to keep both Rosalee and herself calm.

I forgot that she saw Adalind Woge.  I kind of forget those kind of details so thanks.  I do think, though, that Juliette might not be sure entirely of what's happening yet.  She could be changing forms or as shapeshifter suggests, hallucinating that she is changing forms.  I think under either scenario her reactions are fairly consistent.  Anyhow, I like it as a story line.  I like Juliette.  Reminds me a bit of a Buffy story arc where the more folks stay in the know with Nick the Grimm, the deeper their involvement gets (eg. Willow the Wiccan).

  11. I really enjoyed this episode.  And I agree with those who have been saying that Juliette handled that well.  Basically, she had to take care of the more urgent matter at hand which is that Monroe is in deep danger and if they don't save him now he could die.  Whereas, no matter how bad her situation is, Juliette doesn't have reason to believe herself to be in peril.

Here is a question.  Does Juliette realize she is going hexenbeast?  I mean, I know she knows about the wessen and how Nick can see their appearances change.  But does she really know what a hexenbeast looks like?  Or does she know enough that she can figure that out based on conjecture (knowing that Renard's mom is hexen and that Adalind is hexen and that this happened shortly after the spell)?  I'm just wondering how much she understands about what is happening.

  12. Glad the show has been renewed, curious to how they will justify (if at all) that there are only about 50 (I have no idea what the number is) of "The 100" left.

Why does this matter?  Even if there are 50 left, they are 50 of the 100 and always will be "of the 100" regardless of attrition.

  13. Watching this now.  Wow it's great.  I don't agree that it's boring at all.  I'm completely enthralled throughout.  And I love that it's basically an 8 hour movie quality mystery.

But yes, Tony.  Not very likable. Has MAJOR anger issues. Emily, however, is very likable.  I really get her and relate to her efforts to try to move forward, though obviously nothing like that has ever happened to me.

  14. I somehow missed that there is a cable-free subscription that Dish TV is doing called Sling TV (not to be confused with slingbox). It's $20 per month though which I think is a bit high, but it's a small package of channels including ESPN.  I think the inclusion of ESPN is huge.  For a lot of people, the sports issue is a big one.  For example, the college football playoff games are only on ESPN.

I'm ready for HBO Go though.  That's what I want more than anything.

  15. They haven't renewed Hart of Dixie and Beauty and the Beast. Generally, they've had a good year (mostly thanks to The Flash), so the only renewal I'm really shocked at (and not content with) is Reign.

While technically true, neither of those shows started until January.  Is there anything from the Fall schedule that didn't get renewed?

  16. BBC America hasn't yet made an announcement. I doubt they'd want to jeopardize sales of Season 1 on Blu-ray and DVD (to be released December 23).

Talk about just in time for xmas.  What a strange release date.  Why not a week earlier?

  17. (and I'm going to ignore that neither of them had their own lawyer with them because also: No)

Not correct.  You do not need, or necessarily even want, lawyers at a mediation session.  A lot of people do mediation, as an alternative to the more formal processes involving lawyers, and it's completely normal to do it without attorney's present.  That's how my ex and I did it. I was happy with the process, though the result was definitely more fair to her.

I thought it was silly when Joel apologizes for his lack of furniture and then says he figures he should buy some stuff now. Uh, how about picking a few things out of the houseful of furniture that is half yours? Surely, Julia can spare a chair.

I do agree that Joel should have been more intent on getting something out of their house.  But it's pretty clear he was happy to let her have the house, and presumably including the furniture, if that meant it stayed with the "family".  Though he'd obviously rather be part of that family.

I totally agree.  The reality is that Joel's gesture was very sweet, but extremely farfetched.  He and Julia don't appear to have any major assets aside from the house, so if he simply gave it up, it would probably leave him in real financial trouble.

My impression is that they have done quite well for themselves.  Julia made good money at her job, but also Joel's construction job was no small thing.  That was a big money maker.  They can afford to cover a separate apartment for a while and they certainly could afford new furniture if necessary.

Agreed that it seemed pretty ridiculous for Joel and Julia to discuss how to handle the house as the "last thing."  That's usually one of the first couple of things along with alimony and child support.  And while I agree that it was ridiculous that neither of them had an attorney there, though I will agree that if the party's agree, on how to split something, the mediator (or a joint attorney if sharing), may not suggest anything different.  I made a pretty stupid agreement with my ex about the house when we divorced and our joint attorney (no other assets, no kids, no contest divorce) didn't provide any advice.

I do agree that the house might have come up sooner.  But I'm not so sure.  The first thing our mediator did was to identify all of the wealth and all of the debt, from credit cards to the house.  The house was a sort of big dispute and I may be wrong but I though that came up later.  In a lot of ways, that makes it easier.  Now that all of the cards are on the table, it's easier to know what can be added/shifted to help negotiate the house terms.  You know, once you are done debating your separate appraisals.

One of the things I have noticed on discussion boards is how vehemently viewers are when they write in about kids' behavior. I noticed it on old Party of Five shows, then Brothers and Sisters and now on Homeland, the Americans and Parenthood. Especially about teenagers. I don't know about you all, but I was an ungracious, awkward, angry, isolating, rude kinda teen and so were many of my friends. Unlike the perfect teens and preteens on tv then, I think I like reality better. I realize I am over-simplifying.

This a million times over.  Folks seem to get upset that characters don't make better choices, but that's what makes a character more believable, and to some degree, depending on the choices involved obviously, more likable to me.

I really, really love this show.  I'm sad to see it go.  I mean, it's utterly ridiculous and not very realistic with the things that happen. But a lot of the emotional outflow is believable and I won't lie - this show is emotional therapy for me.  I get my good cry out every time.

See, my dad has a fancy new truck that doesn't need a key, just a fancy doohickey in the general proximity, and you push a button to start the vehicle. So I could buy that it was one of those vehicles that needs the fancy doohickey, and she thought it was somewhere on her person. Dad still calls it the key, and the first time I borrowed the truck, I spent about ten minutes figuring out how the hell to drive the thing (no gear shift either, it's a dial on the dash. I drive a 93 Toyota Corolla, so this is all 'from the future' for me).

Sometimes the doohickey is in fact also a key. Or, to be more accurate, there is a key embedded in the doohickey that you can actually use in case, for example, the battery on the doohickey dies.  Though my girlfriend's car wouldn't run without a battery in the doohickey so clearly implementation varies.

I did think that there was no stroller issue here.  It was probably in the trunk of the minivan.  And, I also don't think it matters that the toddler would not have enjoyed Alcatraz.  It's very likely that the trip was conceived as an experience for Max who clearly was excited.  And you can't just leave the toddler at home alone. Or at least I don't think your typical baby sitter envisions sub-contracting out some of their work in that situation.

  18. I thought this was a great episode.  More character depth than most episodes in fact.  And it provides a nice contrast against which the presumably "on the road" events can be presented.  I think Emily Kinney was fine as well.  And I liked the new characters.  I'm a little skeptical that every organized group they run into is despotic in some cooky weird fashion.  It's just hyperbolized that every group would have same insane secret, rather than a fair amount of them having your standard run of the mill secrets and harsh realities that our group faces.

  19. I like to judge The 100 against itself rather than other shows...

This. I never expected it to be super realistic about space travel, or life support, or anything.  I actually think though, by CW standards, it's been solid.  And I enjoy it.  It could be better. But I don't fret about things like how Jabah somehow survive after having his helmet crack open and he still somehow managed to get inside the vessel and seal it.

I enjoyed this episode.  I do think it'll be great when the characters re-unite. I think that given the circumstances, that many of the feature "teen" characters were by necessity, and for common sense reasons, imprisoned or stuck in limbo, that these first two episodes were pretty good.

Also, I love the new intro myself. I think they did a great job on it.  And thanks to the poster above for the cool detailed breakdown. I would not have had the patience to figure all of that out.
